Even after, what, 10 years, FTL still manages to be incredibly challenging and incredibly rewarding. Making incremental progress despite the difficulty, and then eventually winning, makes you feel like a god, and then you get to increase the difficulty and start all over.
Man, I was on a big FTL kick right before Starsector .97 came out, and I was also flipping back and forth between using advanced content and not. I love this channel. Gotta love accidental crew kills like on battle 16! It was kinda funny that he moved to the system you had just changed your target to. It's like the game wanted to give you that sweet scrap bonus. You had some great luck on dodges but probably the worst luck I've ever seen in terms of shops. IIRC you didn't even get a single shop selling weapons, which is just crazy. I don't think I've ever seen that before in a game that hit so many sectors.
-I don't right now, but if people are interested then I'll open one up.- I opened a ko-fi account! Pretty barebones for now, but it exists: ko-fi.com/bigbrainenergy
@@MKP2WIt's been tested before. Unless all the tests were just entirely coincidental, it's been shown that difficulty does impact the chances that certain rooms are targeted.
I know it’s a bit late but enemy targeting is only truly present for hard, and even then there are certain factors that make targeting activate or not. Like for instance if your o2 is low enough (50% I believe) then the enemy ship has an increased chance when shooting to go for that. This also includes checks for weapons, piloting, shields, engines, etc., but I’m not sure what those exact checks are. I would imagine there would be more on this on the wiki.
A bit of FTL is always nice. Hearing you talk about it like this makes me think I would have loved to have had this game during my highschool or even college days. ( Yes I'm old, what can you do. )
TH-cam shows me this video was uploaded 1 hour ago as of me writing this comment, but it didn't appear in the subscription feed. I remember this was a thing before but ffs how do they keep messing up the simplest things.
I chose not to publish to the subscription feed. My subscribers expect starsector, so putting ftl in their feed can actually hurt the video because the "subscriber click-through rate" will be lower. Instead it's better to let the algorithm show it to subscribers who are interested in FTL. In the longterm I may build up a large enough viewerbase who are interested in any game I play but for now this is probably the best approach.
Man, if you are going to continue doing FTL runs now and then - do the Stealth cruiser run. The contrast of you being very calm and collected in the StarSector videos, and being not very calm in FTL is very funny to me, and Nessassio is perfect just for that
Have you heard of or played Avorion? It's also a space/ship/empire building style game. Very fun IMO as someone who also plays a lot of Starsector, FTL and various other space related games.

In config/settings you search for "rangeForMaxExoticDemand" and change it from 10 to whatever number you want. For you I would go at least 13 light years because the in game distance could be 12.4 light years and the display rounded down to 12.

Are Scrap Recovery Arms actually worth buying? They will only pay off after ~500 scrap and early scrap is the most important one. Probably that shop on entrance of sector contained good weapon that could carry your run but you aren't able to afford it as wasted so much scrap. That really confused me - why you called yourself "lucky" for wasting 100 scraps while still not covered your ship weakness? But probably I'm just an amateur in FTL (and that's true).
They absolutely are worth buying if you know what you're doing. The issue is that the run ends at 1:13:00 or so. He makes bad decision after bad decision. The first is the drone bay. The second is taking an option that he knows can force you to take hull damage while at *15 hull* and no scrap. Goes back to the store with plenty of fuel and instead of *repairing* his ship as much as possible he buys even more fuel. Hands his scrap out to another encounter. 1:29:39 he uses what little remains of his scrap to buy fuel, while he still has 8 fuel. Wastes even more upgrading the reactor. 1:31:19 is the last hurrah. The game grants him a store and begs him "please just sell your augments and repair". He still has 10 scrap. Doesn't even stop by to get 2-3 hull repaired. 20 minutes of absolute carnage.
