Only ignorant people would call people from the Cordilleras as "uncivilized". Actually, Cordillerans are some of the most civilized people in the Philippines, fiercely proud of their culture. Much love from a fellow taga-bundok (Baguio).

From all the reaction vids I've seen so far, I enjoyed yours the most because it comes from the perspective of someone from the IP community. Your reaction reinforces the fact that Alamat is on the right path in their edutainment advocacy. I hope you continue watching them on their journey 🤎
I agree with the concern on commercializing IP culture but for this MV, their team included Norman King as their IP consultant, so those fears were addressed.
Might I suggest a reaction to kasmala. Warning though: although that song's lyrics make it somewhat of a love song, the MV's visuals hint at something heavy during the American colonial period. Kirby Araullo's vid on it is a good companion piece.
    Thank you for your time!

True. I agree. I definitely want them to be recognized. I've never been as proud of myself as I am today watching the video. The fact that our culture is extremely rare and treasures. A country that speaks different languages and diff accents. Let's continue to support this group that bravely steps up nationalism and patriotism. :)

Thank you for reacting! I love your input po, I recommend you also react to "Kasmala" by Alamat, it touched on our history, like the igorot tribe, being part of human zoos.

Love watching your reaction, w/ you being able to point out the message of the video.
Yes, as part of their advocacy, aside from incorporating their native languages, they incorporate in their music, video, & wardrobe Filipino instruments, culture/history relevant socio-commentary & textiles.
Btw the Ilokano member, Taneo, is an igorot as well. In their song Kasmala, he even wore the traditional bahag ^_^

Wen ngarud !!!! Commodification and Commercialization of cultures also risk giving the idea that cultures are only worthy when they generate money. 😞 You made my nose runny when you started crying. ♥

thanks for reacting to alamat, you should watch kasmala it is perfection too the way they laid the cultural and historical aspects tho it might need you to dig in deeper (esp, historical references) since it isn't as direct as ABKD

Wow I'm so glad you translated the Ilokano you spoke, and I value your perspective on the message of the music video. I cried too when I saw it. My parents are Ilokano, but as I was raised in Canada, they didn't teach their languages to me.
However my dad, who grew up in Manila, identifies as Tagalog, and looks down on Ilokanos, even though his mom and his wife (my mom) are Ilokano! He refused to meet my mom's family because he sees them as dumb, backwards, uneducated, stupid, etc., even when my mom's mom (Lola) passed away. My dad refused to go to the funeral. I'll never understand...
Anyway I'm glad you posted this reaction!

hope your dad will one day realize how special is his Ilocano heritage. you can also start by reconnecting with your roots. many will be willing to help you.

@@mytribe07 He's in his 80s now, I don't know if he'll ever change ☹️ I had to run away from home because the environment made my health fall apart (was hospitalized). Had to cut off most of my relatives to keep my location secret. Just two cousins know. I'm trying to learn about my family tree, my ancestors, and their cultures, history, and languages now. Mostly on my own. I haven't found people who can help me in my city yet. Thank you for your support Renz ❤

I found myself crying again because of you. The song really simple and it is my motivational song when they released the lyric video. And then the MV drops and my tears drop too. Totally get the deeper meaning on it and yes this is one of the social issues that need to be seen on this generation. I’m your new subscriber by the way, love your reaction.

A fun and perceptive reaction video. I like the native-weave accents. And I appreciate the warning about commercially exploiting or appropriating indigenous culture, although I don't think Alamat are getting anywhere close to that line. Their creative director, Jason Paul Laxamana, used to work as a culture development officer of the Pampanga provincial government I think, and Viva Entertainment seems to have given him a lot of leeway to develop the group according to his vision and concept of diversity and inclusion. And the talents he put together are great! Each group member has a distinctive vocal color, they can all rap (and compose their raps) in their respective regional language, and are great dancers. I love their energy, and the vocal harmonies are always appealing,, rich and complex but they make it sound so easy and uncomplicated. As somebody whose parents are Cebuano and Ilocano, their use of multiple language hit home with me as well.

If you cried for this, you'll definitely get a heavier impact with their song, Kasmala. I'm an Igorot too from Bontoc, and that bit on the Human Zoo hit hard. Our ancestors were there, and part of that World Fair in the guise of a diplomatic trip.
Coming from Kasmala to ABKD was refreshing! It was uplifting! And yes, kudos for creating a space for our indigenous peoples regardless where their indigenous roots may be.
BTW, the ilocano speaker in the group is called Taneo, and his roots are from Kalinga. Igorot din.
