  • A look at what running the UTA50 is like. Lot's of stairs, steep hills and single track running. Set in the beautiful Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Runners set off early in the morning from Scenic World in Katoomba. Stunning sights along the way, with several lookouts, cascades and waterfalls.

      Thanks Killswitch, I used a 360 camera so it made it a little easier to hold during the race. I would just extend the pole out and hit record whenever a nice area of the race showed up 😁 Good luck with the 2024 race, you’re going to have a great time!

      Thanks for the reply 🥰 I was so surprised I even got an entry 👍🏻 Are you running this year?

      @@samaralake7568 yeah the tickets sell out so fast! Unfortunately I’m not running this year, I didn’t buy a ticket as I wasn’t sure if the borders would have been open to travel from VIC. You’re going to have a wonderful time ☺️

    I would go crazy having to wait behind people on stairs and crossings😖

    Hi Nathan. Great video, mate! Could you tell me how long it took you to complete this course?

    • @nathantdunn
      @nathantdunn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Suman, I’ve completed the race 4 times. Here are my rough finish times;
      2017 - 7.5hrs
      2019 - 10.25hrs
      2021 - 9hrs
      2022 - 8hrs
      Cheers

      It’s also possible to hike the whole race. I’m unsure on the cut off times. But when I completed the race in 10.25hrs, I ran the first 16km and ended up with knee pain. So I hiked the last 34km.

    Great video, i'm hoping to get entry on June 2nd. After watching this, those stairs have me nervous. No where to train for anything quite like that in Alice Springs (maybe Euro Ridge lol?). What was the split like for you for run/hike/walk? If you weren't recording, would hiking poles have made a difference?

    • @nathantdunn
      @nathantdunn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katie 👋 yeah training stairs is pretty important. Otherwise if you don’t have stairs, some hills is a definite must! I would estimate 70/30 for Run/Hike. You can see the tracking data on my Strava @nathantdunn . Barely anyone uses poles for the 50k. I’ve never used poles myself. But a lot of people use them for the 100k.

      @@nathantdunn Thanks Nathan, plenty of hills here. The Larapinta trail is amazing, just no stairs :) good to know about the split, I'll add you on strava and take a look

    Just how many stairs in that first 10K???

    • @nathantdunn
      @nathantdunn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha a lot!! I’m pretty sure there’s over 8000 steps throughout the whole race. 951 steps in the last km or two👌

    Whats a good trail run for a beginner?

    • @nathantdunn
      @nathantdunn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jordan, are you in Australia? If so, check out www.runningcalendar.com.au
      You can search trail running events by location and distance. Depending on how far you’ve run in the past and your running abilities, start small, maybe a 5k trail event and slowly work your way up. Enjoy the trails mate!!
