imagine during covid when they were putting DNR tags on loads of people, how many of those would have been assisted.... for no reason other than to get beds empty
So, let me see...I have no idea and neither do the ministers and people against this, have any idea when effective palliative care will be available which seems to indicate that they are ok with those people who are suffering untreatable agonising illnesses should continue to suffer until it is available, which could be years? Nice thought. And for those who call it a sin, tell me please, how is it that an all embracing god, responsible for everything that happens according to the bible, can put people through such agonies, even those who have lived a good life?
He is right ,I have seen doctors telling people they have at most 3 months to live ,and 10 years later they are still alive ,i understand where a grandmother is worried about her grandson starting college the following year ,and then they will seek this out ,very very dangerous .
It’s missing the point, if a person is suffering and has no quality of life, it’s a personal choice. Palliative care in this country is woefully inadequate, they need to get that right first. The debate on assisted dying shouldn’t even be discussed in the house just now. And by the way, there isn’t anyone who can predict when someone is going to die.
It's been very much possible for decades in The Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Canada's Maid law is a mess because they don't have precautions in the first place.
Danny Kruger is absolutely right in his stance against this bill . While the idea behind it may seem compassionate at first , in practice, it could easily spiral beyond its intended context . For one , doctors , as we know , have often misjudged the time a patient has left . Countless cases where people have been told they have months to live , only to survive forever many years . This bill could put unnecessary pressure on vulnerable individuals to end their lives prematurely, feeling rushed or even coerced. And as for the courts , how practical is it really to expect judges to approve every case ? Are we seriously going to create a whole system of judges ? at significant cost, in a time when we are already struggling financially ?!

Talking out his a***, if someone is terminal and able to opt for assisted dying then they choose when the end is, so saying Drs can't correctly know when the end will be is irrelevant. If the Swiss can offer it in a perfectly legal and dignified way then so can we. Scotland will pass it before Westminster, and if so, we will no doubt see many families travel north for it.
