We don't really have any leaders these days preaching unconditional love, respect, integrity, honesty, humbleness. Everything today is mudslinging and hate. Absolutely. It's disingenuous to equate "both sides" on many issues, but in this particular subject it really fits. The conservatives' part in this is obvious but casual racism and sexism has become somewhat popular and casual among liberals.
Take a stroll through Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and others and see how much "white men" are trashed and blamed for the unethical actions of a small group who happen to share their unchosen characteristics. You don't improve the lives of the marginalized by tearing down people who aren't complicit in that marginalization and happen to enjoy privileges given to them by systems they have had no part in creating or implementing. If you want a group of people to improve, you need allies from that group.
Many will tell you sexism and racism against white people and men aren't dire enough for it to be an issue or for it to even exist. Reading between the lines, they are saying racism and sexism is acceptable as long as it benefits those who face issues that they consider ARE dire enough. That is hypocrisy, as plain as it can be. When it comes to a battle of principles, fighting fire with fire has no place.
