Magnets are such a godsend! They make it so much easier to create different mechanisms in miniatures 😍 And honestly, if you're not making mistakes, are you even crafting? 😂 (I have to keep reminding myself of that 😂)
Wow! What a wealth of information. I work in 1:12 scale or smaller, but everything you show can be scaled down easily. I really love the strike plate detail! Everything is great.
Ooh thank you! So glad you noticed the strike plate detail, it was my favourite part to make 🤣😍 Hope this will be useful for your own minis! I think this could be one of those instances where working in a smaller scale might make the process a bit easier 🤫🤩
I have been wanting to do something similiar with my Calico Critter dollhouses - adding a fourth wall with magnets. This video was very helpful and gave me some pointers I had not thought of. Also great ideas for more than just the walls. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.
I have been trying to figure this out for years!! How to have removable walls and save space, plus switching out scenes. So amazing thank you Brilliant
I just found this video and I’m glad I did because I want to build my bedroom and bathroom dioramas and I was pondering if I wanted to use MDF, rigid foam or regular board and now I’m definitely going this route because I have plenty of posterboard, cardboard and dowels! I’ll 3D print my door and handles and I’m definitely creating a floor like yours! As always, thank you so much!
Haahahah not gonna lie, making this roombox was possibly the proudest achievement of my entire life 😂😂😂 btw how are your 3D printing experiments going? 🤩
It was so creative so you should be proud! I’ve printed some stocking stuffers and some dollhouse miniatures including a 12-cube kallax shelf and a desk but they’re not my creations. I get free files from my 3D printer group and I’ve purchased from either Etsy or Cults3D. I want to create my own but I haven’t learned Tinkercadd yet. Thanks for asking.
@@DollsandEverythingElse3D modeling is definitely a learning curve, but it's so rewarding! If I may, I'd suggest starting with something very easy-it will give you a boost of confidence to really get into it! The first thing I 3D modeled was a super basic coffee mug (basically a hollowed-out cylinder with a handle 😂), and I was SO excited about it 😂😂😂
@ makes sense….i like the idea of a coffee mug. I see you using it and it looks like I can do it but it never works the same. Cylinder shape, hollow cylinder shape, group and magic is supposed to happen…just not for me. Thanks.
This is genius!!! I absolutely love your ideas. I would love to make this into a brownstone or townhouse.....if I ever find the time to dedicate to doing it.
Oh that's a genius idea! 🤯👏 You could simply make two identical rooms and put one on top of the other! 😍😍😍 (and as for the time thing - I feel you 🤣🤣🤣)
Oh so glad you like it! 😍 And I was just now thinking, you could hypothetically make several roomboxes and then place them side by side to make a dollhouse 🤯 (am I crazy?)
You are just so talented. Everything you do is just so beautiful. Is the gesso you use to make the brickwalls, is that the same gesso, you use to paint the walls with?
First of all wow, thank you!! 😮😍❤️❤️ And no they're not the same thing! I should have probably mentioned it. The one I used to make the brick texture is actual gesso (or stucco, I've never understood the difference 😂) whereas what I used to paint the walls is *acrylic* gesso. Acrylic gesso is a lot thinner then "gesso" gesso and can be applied with brushes (it has a similar consistency as acrylic paints, but dries to a more opaque and textured finish). Regular gesso is quite thick and you need some kind of spatula(or your fingers 🤫) to apply it. Hope this helps! 😊
@SimplystellaTV ok thx you I'm slowly building my own dollhouse and idk if my door measurement was right or what a good size. Since it my first attempt using cardboard first before I used foamboard as a final.
Sure I can upload it if you want! Just be warned, it took my Silhouette a good 45 minutes to cut it (+ another half hour to peel off all the little rectangles from the mat) 🤣🤣🤣
Basically! It's a rotary tool by Parkside: th-cam.com/video/IFCDNTFocxk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WyCida1PJ2k9Yepv I also own a Dremel, but it doesn't work well/at all 😢 so I mostly use this one. It's technically a cheaper brand but works better, IMHO 😂
My daughters are absolutely going to want to try this. Do you have a list of the tools you use? I’m certain we don’t have most of what you used 😂 we may have teeezers and an exacto knife but they tool that might be a drill of some sorts we do not have. Not sure what it’s called.
Haahahah yes I'm very spoiled 😅🤣 and yes that is a drill! If you don't have one, an awl could be a pretty good substitute, although it does require more strength 😂 (and time). As Shari mentioned, a Dremel-type rotary tool is great for this kind of projects, as it allows you to cut, buff and drill a variety of materials. I've even recently found a super cheap one that works surprisingly well! To be fair most of these projects CAN be made using just an exacto knife, an awl and a nail file - the "fancy" tools make the job faster/easier but they're not absolutely necessary! ❤️
What are the main advantages of using wood reinforced cardstock over foamcore. Using foamcore for the walls would make it a lot simpler!😅 So I imagine there are reasons I’m not thinking of.
@@clarissemiller3274 Main reason is availability 😂 I used cardstock and wood sticks because, at least in my experience, they’re easier to find and a lot cheaper.
