That's why I snicker when someone brings up The Sims 3 being buggy. The excuse is always "open world is the reason for the bugs and lag". As if The Sims 4 isn't as buggy, and the Sims don't just stand there when told to do something. Simulation lag is a big problem.
Been recently playing Sims 3 again and I'm finding the issue isn't the open world itself but the routing design of whichever world you're in. When Sims, even ones you don't control, get caught on bad routing it causes simulation lag. For example, the World Adventure worlds are all running super smooth on a lower end modern laptop despite being known for performance issues due to weird geometry in the topography. The Showtime world on the other hand has so many routing issues that it constantly locks up for me. All that said, Sims 4 still doesn't have that excuse. Sims walking around the neighborhoods rarely leave the sidewalk for anything but what's on the active lot or to use fishing holes. And unless you mod it you don't get more than 20 or so Sims on a lot by default. So, something else is bogging down the simulation constantly.
Been like that for over a month, far as I could tell. I was so far and invested in my legacy and this entire generation revolves around off grid living… been so long since I opened that save now I can’t even remember their names!

@@mintness7565 for PC. I don’t currently use mods or cc, as I thought they were the problem but even with no mods after that update it was all wonky. Even my teens were aging up without getting the trait option so I had to manually enter it in cas. So silly get bugs from the updates even without mods! lmao

Sims 4 is boring without any packs 😢 packs do cost a lot 😔 also break the game especially wedding pack. One of my guests stole my cake.😂 I slapped her and we fought. Best wedding ever 😁
Off the Grid and Simple Living tend to cause issues in a save. So, I always avoid them. So many features of packs are broken and rarely fixed. Or the supposed fixes break new things, like fishing in Sulani which has been broken since the Lovestruck patch. The game was buggy from the start and wasn’t designed to carry so much DLC, but they’ll keep it running to milk the cash cow until it breaks completely.
oh my god.... i started a new save back in the first week of the reaper rewards and my sim was living with the off-the-grid challenge and i remember when i went back to play for the second week it just kept on loading forever, so i restarted it SO MANY times and i kept on searching everywhere to find what the issue was and i never got it. i actually thought it was the grimophone that was broken so i took it off my build, and the infinite loading screen came back anyway. i tried so many different things, every week i'd have to start all over again and when i tell you i got SO pissed off when i realized it was off the grid that was the problem.... and i remember not long after ea posted a thing with all the bugs ? i think ? and this wasn't there, so i thought it was just my game that couldn't handle off the grid for some reason... i'm glad to see i wasn't the only one who this happened to
The way EA handles these issues is so ANNOYING! They would leave us clueless not knowing what the hell is wrong with the game, until we take a deep dive to see what the problem is!! I also suspected everything in my game and kept removing them until I found the least suspected thing ever was causing the issue! I'm so frustrated I decided to make another video addressing all their nonsense!
I just had this happen this week. I started the IN BLOOM challenge and was living in that world had off the grid and even living in the same lot as you. I went into CAS try to come back out got an infinite loading screen and it totally corrupted my home save.
@@plumbastic yes I was, I lost a few hours of gameplay. I was annoyed with off-the-grid by then because my sim was always annoyed she couldn't take a proper shower so I took the lot challenge off when I restarted the 2nd time. It still has been having very long loading screens since. I thought it was some new mods I had gotten.....I'm saving to move lots with her and if it don't get better I will move worlds. I know that world had problems when I was 1st released. I thought by now they would have fix that! I am thankful I didn't loose more gameplay than I did.
It's really annoying, but I'm glad you didn't lose much! I removed the lot trait and changed the world, and thankfully didn't have this issue ever since. Since you still have it, i'd say the world might be bugged too.
I have this issue before. I read all from that bug page and at the very last comment, if I can recall someone already fix it this issue using a mod for Off-the-grid to work again. I download the mod and then boom it works that, there is also an issue with interaction with dolphins and it's the same person who fixes the issue.
The fact that there are modders out there who can fix the game quicker and better than EA. Tells a lot about the company's policy of ignoring issues on purpose!
Interesting. I've been playing on the lot with off the grid and reduce and recycle challenges and i haven't had any issues. I'm not using mods rn, maybe that has to do with it?
It wasn't guaranteed to happen, but I had 3 different save files with the same issue. I took my mods off and tried to reload one of them and it didn't work as well. I checked the open issue again and they said they fixed it! I updated the description box with the 2 threads I've found, and mentioned what they said.

I was going to play the Ultimate Decades challenge in January (with a bit of a twist, as I planned to keep my Sims in the UK rather than move them to US), which requires Off-the-grid for most of the challenge, but now I know it will break the game. I won't use Off-the-grid there and will instead just not add items that wouldn't otherwise function with it on instead. Also, is the bug just on computer, or is it a console bug too? (I play on PS4)
PC and console usually share the same bugs, but they claim it's fixed now, but some simmers say it's not. So I'd say set off-the-grid challenge and try to save before leaving your home lot for any reason even entering CAS. And stay off the Cottage Living world. Or if you're too scared to try like me 🤣 do it as you said.

Well, this is an issue, but I guess I could otherwise use Windenburg as my starting area, which the challenge said was best to do anyway (I have Get Together, Cottage Living, and a bunch of other DLCs. Next one I want is For Rent, due to the Mould lot challenge to make things more realistic. Also, no. I do not have Castle Estate kit, if you need to know). Or I guess I could make a new Sims world just for bug testing to be sure, and delete it later, as it seems like only PC players are talking about this issue, and no console player has confirmed whether it's happening there or not.
If you don't have any issue then have fun! Just try to save every now and then. It doesn't happen immediately. I would be playing normally for a couple of hours then the issue would happen. I wanted to try this challenge too, even created a Sim for it awhile ago. I think it'll be a fun one! I bought For Rent for the gameplay, but man the loading screens put me off!

XD) I also wanted to get For Rent DLC, as I wanted the lot challenge from there, but I just found out that I spent so much money in October that I should probably wait until January (my bank acc is not supposed to be below £1,000, yet here we are. I've been to a cosplay convention, then on a 2 day trip to Alton Towers, and I have a new cosplay planned).
lol! What a way of describing them! 🤣 I'm not surprised at this point. This is typical EA. Every update something breaks, and they ignore it for months and then claim they fixed it, but they didn't!
Different story but same context as you about it being buggy. few days ago, i have a legacy save where i played in simple living challenge lot and in this save file, the gen 1 are strictly prohibited to get real jobs, just focusing on farming and ranch stuffs, one does the farm and ranch stuffs, the other keeps the family afloat by running bakesales with the produces that my farmer sim has proudly took care of. It was going well few hours in, until when on a random day when one of my mini goats got dirty, i clicked it to clean the goat(her name was Caramel🫶🏻) my sim somehow cannot clean her, like he just stops, doesn't do anything, zero, nada, zilch. Like it auto cancels for some reason, then i tried to sold the goats and bought new sets of goats and the problem still persists. Then i tried it on a cow (immediately bought an animal shed for testing, i had to sacrifice my horse stable smh) AND IT'S THE SAME, I CAN'T CLEAN THE COW IT AUTO CANCELS FFSSSS. Then when i tried my other save files for testing, IT WORKED I CAN CLEAN THE COW AND THE GOATS. I immediately went to cas, save that legacy farm gen 1 family to my gallery, and start a new save
OMG! Now I'm positive the Cottage Living world is cursed! I keep facing a lot of weird bugs whenever I decide to live there too! But talking about your challenge made me want to try it again, but maybe in the Horse Ranch world instead to be safe. Love the goat name BTW 😁

My current save file is currently on chestnut ridge, while my previous file on henford on Bagley keeps getting bugged and glitches to the point it corrupted my save file😭😭 rip my Spellcaster farmer legacy sim family and his progress, i didn't save him and his family to my gallery and he was already on virtuoso rank as well, i am PISSED😔😔😔😔

Yes! Sims 4 somehow managed to collect all the bugs of the previous games, but not even close to their epic gameplay! 😅
I can't believe there's a bug about this. I tried it and I changed my mind before quitting the game. I was so lucky that I didn't broke my saves.
They said they fixed it now, but some simmers still report the issue, and I'm scared to test it myself and lose another save file 😭

Then you're good to go. It doesn't happen in build mode as we don't go through a loading screen when switching.

I had my Sims constantly stealing birthday cakes before I could put up the candles. Always had to make at least 2, as a result.

Just tested it with only Cottage Living, then Off-the-grid. Didn't cause the bug for me, but again, I'm on console.

Oh man that's so sad 😢 I always play legacy challenges with spellcasters too! The ancient bloodline trait is so worthy.
