    One trick you should learn about most good mate in twos is that White's first move is never a check or capture (there are exceptions, but it's usually obscure, like an en passant first move), and in many cases the first moves seems to just hang a piece, like here. Knowing this, I knew I had to guard c5. Ra5 was the only way I could see that didn't give Black a new flight square. From there I solved it fairly quickly.

    After seeing these amazing puzzles from you, it's pretty clear that first move almost always is the one without check and the key to solve these is to first find a pattern in which the checkmate can be done and later try to just block all the exit pathways...

      Generally speaking, if a composed puzzle solution begins with a check or a capture, that's considered to be a flaw.

      That is a great point! Now I just need to find these positions in real games. Haha

    Ah heck I had bishop a3 then c6 with a discovered check, but missed the knight blocking. Mate in 3 ain't bad for how much time I studied the thumbnail before guessing.

    I was thinking : why can't you mate with the bishop? Bishop a4 king a5 bishop b6

    • @batavuskoga
      @batavuskoga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No bishop can reach a4 in the first move, only the queen and the rook. Probably you mean 1.Ba3 Ka5 2. Bd6 But here the check with the rook can be blocked by the knight on b6

    I quickly notice some tiles are attacked by multiple pieces and one of those pieces have to move out, but didn't get far from there
