After winning the 2015 Mixed Night Doubles title, defending champion, Felix Albert, was on a mission to get back to finals & protect his mixed doubles crown! Last year, he partnered up fellow Rainbow Wahine Cindy Nguyen to achieve that mark. This time around, Felix would join forces with Petra Melounova (another Rainbow Wahine) to make another run. Petra at the time was just a freshman at UH but early on, she let her racquet do the talking! She quickly moved up the rankings on the women's roster & found herself in the top 2. Eventually, she became one of the most successful players in Rainbow Wahine history (present day) but back then, she was new to the state of Hawaii. Either way, the team of Felix & Petra was gonna be tough to beat!
On the other side of the net stood a Hawaii Pacific University mixed doubles team. This team was Filip Dolezel & Nicole Hoynaski. On the Men's Shark roster, Filip quickly rose to become the top player on his squad, powering through opponent after opponent early on in 2016. He even helped HPU wins its first NCAA Division 2 Men's Tennis National Championship that year! You can believe Filip brought lots of confidence into the Night Doubles event. His partner, Nicole Hoynaski, also had lots of firepower & confidence to show for. Nicole joined the Lady Sharks in 2015 & also quickly ascended to the top of her team's roster. From the first forehand she hit, you knew she meant business & it didn't matter who was on the other side of the net. This mixed doubles team was so solid on paper, they were awarded the #1 seed in the Night Doubles without even playing the tournament together before. Thats saying something!
Considering that at one point, each of these players (Felix, Petra, Filip, & Nicole) served as the #1 player on their respective college tennis team roster, this made for an exciting matchup!

Really nice match. Quality from all players. Woman in grey had a really nice serve. Accurate with power. Both men had nice serves too, though the guy in blue was pretty awesome...nice to be a lefty too.

I love the level of enthusiasm and dang(!), the level of play at this club. I assume these folks must be college players or played college. What a fun evening.
This club can be electric during there locally held tournaments. Kinda feels like a pro event at times! These players players were playing college ball at the time as well. Good players!

Nice match. Girl in black completely lost her game after 4-0, tho...
Thats always tough to watch when a team gets the lead like that but then loses it. However, the HPU team had to have been on cloud 9 there when they won 6 games in a row!
