This week Toby and I are taking you Northeast into the Arrowhead region of Minnesota's Superior National Forest. I had no idea what to expect as far as occupied campsites. With the sweltering heat, oppressive humidity, constant rain and blood thirsty Mosquitos I was hoping people would be staying indoors, but that was not the case. I spent about 8 hours Friday driving around trying to find a spot. I had another doctor's appointment Friday morning for the shoulder, so I took the entire day off work. It was nice to have an extra day knowing that I was going to be putting on a lot of miles.
Friday evening as the sun was going down, I found myself on a trail that I should not have been down. It was extremely tight. I could tell no one had been down the trail in a long time. The only reason I kept pushing through is because the ground was hard packed. Eventually I came to a spot that was completely washed out and I was forced drive the trail in reverse for a mile or more.
I decided to check a few more spots before giving up for the night. I'm not as familiar with the Superior National Forest as I am the Chippawa National Forest. I didn't want to be down these sketchy washed-out backwoods trails at midnight looking for a campsite. When I pulled up to the Windy Lake Rustic Campsite, I was shocked to find it empty.
I hope you enjoy following along with me and Toby this weekend. Saturday was a lazy day because of a 5-hour rain shower right in the middle of the day. But in all honesty, I enjoyed the down time. I hope the relaxing nature of the adventure comes through in this video.

Back home from the hospital had two tests CT and ultrasound three lots of blood took but had to have that blood taken out of hand because I have no vein's in my arms at all, was very painful.
I have Gallstones am waiting to hear from the hospital to see how they are going to remove them.

Oh boy! I hope you get some relief. I hear the pain from a gallbladder can be excruciating. Hopefully, the video was able to take your mind off of things for a short time.

NOTHING like a dog... Kenny, unless people experience a great dog, they will never know how a good friend they are. My wife and I each have a dog and they are both smart and love to make us laugh. When my last dog died.. I was upset and moped around for a week until my wife made me go buy another of the same breed. Imagine this big ole boy so upset because he missed his pooch. The new one has the same personality as the old one and is my favorite dog ever.. he's now 7 years old. I can tell Toby is a great dog.. have a good week, pal.

You have proven again why a truck camper is one of the best campers for dispersed camping. Pull a trailer down a road where you have to turn the mirrors in then have to back out like you did. That backup camera was a great addition to aid in getting you out of that situation. Awesome video Kenny and congratulations on your daughter’s graduation !!!
I agree. It would have been really hard to back up without the camera. It would have taken a long time, and I could have easily busted out a rear window again without the camera.

I've found Kevin in that first week or two of him posting as well. I knew he would do well after watching those first few videos. His content is ALOT better than mine when I was new to TH-cam. I've never talked to him outside of the comment section, but he seems like a good dude. I hope the mention will help the algorithm figure out the right audience to put him in front of. Regardless, he is doing awesome on his own. He has 5.2k subs in 7 months. That's about what Larry and I had combined at 7 months. I know he doesn't make hardly any money with his number of views. Google doesn't pay that well. I hope my viewers will tune in, and the extra views might help put a couple gallons of fuel in the tank.
I notice there are a number of channels with pups. It's not easy. Toby and I work on training every day. It takes TONS of patience on both our parts. Thankfully, Toby is not hyper, and really smart for his age. I watch Jonathan and his pup Kaya. That dog has energy for days. I'm sure she will be a great partner for him too. It takes consistency, patience, love, and determination to get our dogs to the point where they seem to be able to read our minds. Unfortunately, their lives are so short, and losing a pup feels like losing your best friend. When Hanna passed last spring, I didn't think I was gonna let myself feel that pain again, but Toby stole my heart the first time I saw him. Any ways....this is getting long..in short I hope a few folks make their way over to Kevin's channel.

My dad was born in Brainerd in 1918. His family eventually moved to Fargo. He started his family here in Kansas. I love seeing these Minnesota sights. The wild flowers along the road are so beautiful. Thank you for taking us on these camping adventures. I still dream of having a truck camper. It may still happen. I'm going to read Travels with Charlie again.
I love to hear the sounds of rain on the roof 😊 and the smell of the earth after a rain storm. Even the skies are tumultuous. That camper looks like heaven so comfy…..

I have been watching several videos recently submitted. All the same story. Hard to find a campsite. A lot more people are now getting out, camping and exploring. It's summer, kids are out of school. Camping is just about the only way to afford a family vacation these days.

I’m camping a few days this week - hubby has an early medical appointment in a town close to us. There was a fire on the side of the highway. So we came & camped for a couple nights - to make sure he is close for the appt.

Hi Kenny and Toby, what a contrast in weather between you and us. You have been soaking wet and we have been desert dry. Until last night I don't think we had a rain for three weeks. Add temps. in the mid 90's and humidity's in the 60's plus I basically can't leave the house except early AM or later PM.
That lake looked like a killer fishing spot. Would of loved to see the wolf pair. I have got to see wolves here locally only 3 or 4 times. We have had sightings of bear, cougar on occasions, but they're rare here in West Central IL
Still the Mississippi River is at flood stage plus......all that Minnesota rain :).
That was a heck of a sandwich! I could go for that!

Thank you! I remember how hard and slow the youtube process can be. I think Kevin is doing better than I was after 7 months on TH-cam. I've never spoken with him outside of the comment section, but he seems to be a decent person. I thought maybe I could help him by having some of my viewers who injoy truck camping content watch his videos. Then, the algorithm could recognize what group of people it should be putting his videos in front of. Otherwise, it can take years for the algorithm to figure out who's watching the videos. I think one of the main reasons people stop making videos is that it takes years before you start getting enough views to make enough money to keep the fuel tank full in the camper.
So heartwarming to see how Toby has become so devoted to you. Its all the dogs want out of this world is to be close to their "human" and in most parts of his life. Im sure you have had a big part in his wonderful personality...so many dogs are not as close. Anyhow, music was great and so soothing; the rainfall was peaceful. Thanks for showing us so much beauty.

He is getting bigger than I thought. He's at the upper end of the size range for his breed. I think he will fill out over the next year, but he probably won't get much taller.
Used to use those mosquito coils in the car at the drive in movies when I was a kid. Adults in the front, kids in pajamas in the back. Coil in the ashtray and speaker in the window!

I am loving thus Video...when we started camping , it went from a tent , 2 different Pop ups, then a 30 footer. Fire at night was my time, we even had campfires in the rain. You do such a great job on the videos, seeing Toby a plus...❤

Chili in July - ok. Chilly in July-👍👍 Nice to have a cool break from this heat. Toby is the bestest boy, such a well mannered companion. He listens and never tells. Animals are great for mental and physical health. Sometimes you have to work for a camping spot but it's always worth it. Rain is great for sleeping unless you're in a tent. I thought of those folks as well. Another great spot to add to the list, enjoyed it. Thank you for taking us along, stay safe and GOD bless
