great video my man, but something I dont seem to understand is how do and connect simbrief to your aircraft, and also what aircraft type do you set your f18 on simbrief?
I think there are smaller invisible detents within the “MAX” area on the throttle - hopefully they will match the different afterburner control assignments 😁
F18 in the real world has an afterburner fuel curve in the control box so it's not detents but a secondary area in the throttle. once you put the throttle past MIL into the A/B detent range, you are at minimum afterburner. the A/B then gradually lights more as you move the throttle to max. it should respond smoothly from min to max A/B at all times. its pretty awesome at night watching the burner cone move back and forth from the min to max settings.
funny thing too is if you use the autostart the sim always starts the left engine first. in reality if you are going to start both engines it doesnt matter because you will have both engines running anyway, but the right one is usually started first to recharge the apu accumulator which also supplies the emergency brake accumulator with charge.
just a question.. my rudders don't seem to be turning the front wheel.. that means I can turn the plane while it's on the ground. have I accidentally hit a button that stops the front wheel being anything but straight? I can't taxi it anywhere and if I'm not straight while landing it's tricky. any help guys? I know I could turn it before but now it's like this.
@@TiJayFLY by the way do you own the eurofighter typhoon? I'm having some problems with that too. Randomly it will lose all power and not throttle up and the afterburners are always blinking. I'll try deleting the plane and download it again but I don't know.. another strange one. I have all damage turned off too so I'm not sure what's going on.
Almost certain it won’t fly RNAV. Pretty sure it puts you on an intercept heading and you have to fly the ILS manually (if there is one). If not, visual landing
I see you've got waypoints on the right MFD. Did you load those with the flight planner beforehand? Have you figured out a way to display an HSI or at the very least, a VOR needle?
Yeah the route must be programmed in MSFS flight planner beforehand. This is the closest the MSFS F18 has to an HSI. I haven’t yet found a way to program VOR or ILS frequencies in the plane - it has TACAN but I think that’s for the upcoming carrier patch.
I know that, at least the legacy Hornets from DCS (F/A 18C) have an ICLS system which is like an ILS system but only functions for carriers, not airfields. (Instrument Carrier Landing System I think) I dont know much about the superhornet so take that with a grain of salt
This is an amazing tutorial ! I am having trouble with the plane always pitching on the left for some reason, i can't find out why ! It happens only with the F18. Do you know why is that maybe ?
Everytime I land it always turns left or right and is uncontrollable and impossible to taxi, this happens with every single plane and my rudder is also broken after I land and goes all stuttery and twitchy
@@TiJayFLY thank you for your answer ! i'm trying it again in cold and dark mode and see what i got : nothing changed. I played with basic weather, still nothing. If i let go of the yoke, the aircraft automatically falls on the left. Yet I have unabled every assistted piloting command... Very frustrating as i will need to have my hand on the yoke all the time
@@louisduclos3439 ohhh you’re flying manually :) yeah that sounds like a bug with the flight model. The aircraft’s autopilot (the one on the centre MFD) is actually pretty stable though, and does have a heading and roll hold mode so you can use those for stable flight 👍
This is probably a silly question, as I'm relatively new. But how an earth do you get to 150knots? even at the lowest power on the throttles, gears and flaps at the ready I barely get below 240knots.
Like any aircraft, it depends on your descent rate. If you’re straight and level with flaps/gear down and AT set to 150 (or AT off and throttle at idle), it’ll decelerate quickly. If you’re nose down at -1500fpm, it’ll struggle.
Not sure why this is happening, but bind an auto throttle disengage key to override it. The video was recorded with manual throttle throughout, so it *shouldn’t* accidentally happen following the same process 👍
@@TiJayFLY This happens when I just spawn on the runway, apply full throttle (But it only goes to 80%), lift off, then immediately after it throttles down and I have no input
@@StormTuber 80% is normal - “MAX” is afterburner. Definitely bind a key for disengage AT as it sounds like something is happening. But first, switch off all MSFS flight assistant stuff - it could be that!
@@StormTuber one more thing I thought of - make sure flaps are set to Auto not Half after takeoff. I think MSFS has some kind of default over speed protection on certain settings, so it may not be switched off in your sim.
(no hate to creator awesome vid) the way the f18 is presented in msfs shows how little effort they put into making it realistic. I know its not dcs but why is the glide slope indicator on the HUD still presented after takeoff? Also hornet takes off by itself, you don't pull on the stick for takeoff unless you need to make a shorter takeoff than normal. If they would have put 1 hour into making the flight model even remotely accurate I would feel better.
@ThingontheThing when the hornet is properly trimmed for takeoff you are not supposed to give any back stick at all during take off. This is done using the trim out button to the left of the FCS reset button on the left console. Also by glide slope indicator I am referring to the hud element that indicates the proper AOA to catch a wire on a carrier. It is not always up when flying. Also it is clear you think you know what your talking about by looking at the comments you’ve made to other users. Please do research before telling someone they are wrong.
@ThingontheThing you do not put backstick pressure when trimmed out... Also if you were a real pilot you would know what im talking about when im referencing the glide slope indicator.
@ThingontheThing I see I have inspired you to put that picture as your profile picture lol. If you really are a rhino pilot thank you for your service. But if your not then 😐. How about you do a video talking about your experience flying the jet?
Hello, I have problems with the rudder, both on the runway and with some others, such as in flight, where neither the keyboard nor the joystick can make it work. I've already checked the button mapping but it's still the same. Any idea how to fix it? It worked fine for a few days but again nothing. Thank you !!
I’ve heard loads of people complain about the rudder recently, but none of them have ever explained how they fixed it… maybe there was some kind of issue in SU9, but all I can suggest is re-assigning the axes really.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but when I land, I’m either way too fast or too slow and I stall...and it seems to take the entire runway to slow down...my brakes seem useless...
Minimum approach speed with flaps in this seems to be 160, it just falls out of the sky below that (as it doesn’t have a spoiler). I haven’t had an issue with brakes - make sure your controls are setup so the brakes are constantly being applied when you hold down the button, not toggling on/off. Also make sure your auto throttle is off and your throttle is idle when touching down.
Ah nice! FSX is a fantastic platform with a lot of great DLC. I think DC Designs / Just Flight made a good F18. There’s also a freeware one from FlyAway Simulations
For some reason the jet engine won't shut off completely and I had pressed the same button combination over many times and waited for minutes and nothing. It use to work but not anymore.
That sounds like MSFS “flight assistant”, not autopilot. Turn off all the assistance stuff in options (auto rudder etc). Autopilot disengage key can be mapped in options too, on Xbox its Y by default. Auto throttle disengage can also be mapped, it’s called “autopilot airspeed hold off” in options
Something is still switched off, make a note of the startup steps and ensure you do each one. Also make sure you’re flying the default F18, not the Super Warrior mod or the DC Designs Hornet 😂
I always felt the jets were slow in the game so I googled their top speeds and the FA/18 should be able to do 1190 MPH which would equate to 1034 knots. In a straight, level altitude, I stay around 624 knots. Can the game not simulate almost double that speed? Lol. I'm no pro or anything. Only way I get above those speeds is by flying real high then depend to a lower altitude at full throttle. The F14 Tomcat top speed is 1544 MPH, or 1331 knots. Would be pretty sweet to hit these speeds in the game.
There’s a difference between IAS and TAS/ground speed. If you’re at altitude doing 600 KIAS, your TAS may well be 1030kts with a ground speed of 1190mph.
How can i fly faster? Speeds on aircrafts are slow, passenger planes fly at 200-302 kntts and fighter jets get 500 knotts which is slow for me. Anyway i can go mach 1 or something?
I am having fuel issues on series x when fully fueled the f18 doesn't feed fuel into engines from Left main and Right main tanks. This only gives me 77% fuel capacity which runs out pretty quick, what am I missing?
This sounds like a bug to me - as far as I’m aware there’s no way to manually configure fuel flow. Happy to be corrected but given the “attention to detail” Asobo have paid to this plane as a whole, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just broken.
While I am using afterburner for a long time, my left engine stops. What do I have to do? And when I get to start the jet by checklist, it can't activate the ATC communication. I play on xbox series s
For the afterburner thing, double check fuel and that you don’t have failures turned on. I’m not sure how well the MSFS checklist system works if you’re getting the AI to run the checklist - I always start the plane myself :)
The speed brake is called spoiler in MSFS and you can map Extend spoiler and Retract spoiler to a HOTAS switch or separate buttons. There is also a toggle option.
If the cursor has disappeared (it’s a common bug), go to external view and back in. If this is the first start of the sim after the update, I’d restart the sim and PC/console to check it’s not some input device oddity. I’m also not sure the quick start and shutdown functions actually work with this plane - lots of people had issues with that, seems like a bug. 👍 It’s also worth noting that I use the “legacy” input mode - you can switch this on in Accessibility options. I think if you use the new “lock” input mode, some buttons may be scroll wheel driven instead of click driven.
I feel like I’m not piloting a fighter jet powerhouse of destruction, rather just a wimpy Cessna. Honestly just a shame this update still did not fix the F15 when it comes to syncing the throttle and the F18 when it comes to the overall flight mechanics and feel. I feel like most people who bought this game wanted to fly fighter jets but are not catering to that
Everyone wants to fly fighter jets but there are two audiences - Those who want “study level” can get that in DCS, and those who just want to experience flying a fast jet without having to learn for hours are catered to in MSFS :)
I recommend the F14 from dc designs. its about as close as you can get to having a real fighter experience in a sim that doesn't have any supersonic flight model yet. beware the f14 is currently broken with the new update 7 so the hud doesnt work and for me I can't get the engines to start. but even sitting on the tarmac with the left engine spooling at 20 percent RPM id rather do that than fly the f18 tbf.
@@TiJayFLY I play on Xbox Series S and it‘s the Microsoft In Build „Boeing F/A - 18E/F Super Hornet“. When I restart the flight it‘s the same issue. I have to restart the game to make it work.
Select a gate/ramp as your departure point in the world map. It’s the drop-down below the airport name. Note that if you start from a gate/ramp, you’ll need to start the airplane from cold and dark.
Make sure both engines are on and there isn’t some kind of asymmetric thrust issue. Gear should go up as soon as you hit the hot key as you climb out… Banking to the left could also be caused by incorrect waypoint selection or speed too high to follow the plan - make sure your selected waypoint is ahead of you, for example after takeoff you need to select waypoint 1 not waypoint zero, and that your speed is reasonable for your plane to intercept it.
@@TiJayFLY I have only started the f-18 from hot and ready do go not cold like in your video. So I know that both engines are at same power and same thrust. I know what button to press on my controller and keyboard to make the landing gear go up and it never does with this aircraft. I think that it's a bug or I'm too dumb to figure it out lol. ether way I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the advice and quick response though 😊 .

funny thing too is if you use the autostart the sim always starts the left engine first. in reality if you are going to start both engines it doesnt matter because you will have both engines running anyway, but the right one is usually started first to recharge the apu accumulator which also supplies the emergency brake accumulator with charge.
Is it possible to change to the F variant (two seat)?
Only the single seat is in MSFS as far as I’m aware
How do I get the plane? My Top Gun DLC pack is still downloading, do I automatically get the plane when it’s done?
Yup - although you should have it already, as this formed part of an update in late 2021.
where are all the lights in the jet??? thanks.
I use the L key in this 😳😂
Do I have to punch in coordinates to fly it?
Definitely not. It pulls through your flight plan from the world map.
I just can't figure out how to use the rudder for taxi and take off. no idea if it's a bug or what.
In the MSFS control options you can tie rudder to nosewheel steering. You want this to be on
@@TiJayFLY I just figured out the problem I was having cheers man.
just a question.. my rudders don't seem to be turning the front wheel.. that means I can turn the plane while it's on the ground. have I accidentally hit a button that stops the front wheel being anything but straight? I can't taxi it anywhere and if I'm not straight while landing it's tricky. any help guys? I know I could turn it before but now it's like this.
In MSFS controls there’s an option to tie rudder to nose wheel steering. I think in Accessibility or Realism settings?

Hey brother can I ask you a question? Is the RNAV currently broken on FA 18? I’m having a hard time with it.
@@handsomechocolatebar276 No "proper" carriers in MSFS yet - we'll see if they add ICLS with it.
This is an amazing tutorial !
I am having trouble with the plane always pitching on the left for some reason, i can't find out why ! It happens only with the F18.
Do you know why is that maybe ?
MSFS autopilot has loads of weird bugs, try it in clear skies - could just be it can’t handle real world weather too well in certain conditions.

Thaaanks so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My throttle just goes straight to autothrottle and I cant have any annual throttle control, only way is to change autopilot airspeed
@@TiJayFLY Nope, neither of those worked
@@StormTuber one more thing I thought of - make sure flaps are set to Auto not Half after takeoff. I think MSFS has some kind of default over speed protection on certain settings, so it may not be switched off in your sim.

I *think* it’s part of the base package
@@TiJayFLY ok
(no hate to creator awesome vid) the way the f18 is presented in msfs shows how little effort they put into making it realistic. I know its not dcs but why is the glide slope indicator on the HUD still presented after takeoff? Also hornet takes off by itself, you don't pull on the stick for takeoff unless you need to make a shorter takeoff than normal. If they would have put 1 hour into making the flight model even remotely accurate I would feel better.
Yeah I agree, these F-18 tutorials are more “how to play a video game” than “how to fly this aircraft”.

Wonderful tutorial, I subscribe to your channel, I hope you continue to upload tutorials of the F-18 of FS2020.🙋🏼♂️✈👍🏼🧿🖐🏼
Im doing a flight sim on cadets so I'm watching this
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but when I land, I’m either way too fast or too slow and I stall...and it seems to take the entire runway to slow down...my brakes seem useless...
@@TiJayFLY thanks- I’ll check the brake settings👍
No Missiles? Go back to Cessna.
That f18 is a based on a real-world configuration that is solely meant for signal disruption.
Thank you
I'm just starting out with FSX. Where can I obtain this to install for FSX? (Or similar F-18)
Edit: Quick video guide to shutdown here th-cam.com/video/t0QCGnNpGVI/w-d-xo.html
When performing Nesterov's loop, the position of the flaps is changed at the airplane. What is the reason for this?
Flaps are set to auto by default and MSFS logic isn’t bulletproof
How do I disengage autopilot. Every time I take off and taxi I loose control of my rudder and my throttle
Keeps saying the ATC is off ?
Something is still switched off, make a note of the startup steps and ensure you do each one. Also make sure you’re flying the default F18, not the Super Warrior mod or the DC Designs Hornet 😂
@@TiJayFLY i did the auto do check list and didn’t force finish any of it so not sure
@@TiJayFLY I admit, I never k ew how all this equates. Lol
Ok so you might not answer this in time but how do I go into reverse or push back I don't know what to call it

How can i fly faster? Speeds on aircrafts are slow, passenger planes fly at 200-302 kntts and fighter jets get 500 knotts which is slow for me. Anyway i can go mach 1 or something?
Mach 1 @ 40,000ft is about 400 knots indicated. If you look at the HUD you’ll see the Mach number. Also make sure you’re in afterburner (Shift+F4).

Can't find a way to display that color map with elevation data on main display.
I’m not sure I’ve done it either, but pretty sure the displays are interchangeable
While I am using afterburner for a long time, my left engine stops. What do I have to do? And when I get to start the jet by checklist, it can't activate the ATC communication. I play on xbox series s
For the afterburner thing, double check fuel and that you don’t have failures turned on. I’m not sure how well the MSFS checklist system works if you’re getting the AI to run the checklist - I always start the plane myself :)
you ran out of fuel
This helped! I wonder how to deploy the speed brake...
Easiest way would be assign a hotkey in control options
The speed brake is called spoiler in MSFS and you can map Extend spoiler and Retract spoiler to a HOTAS switch or separate buttons. There is also a toggle option.
If I remember right, it is on the right side on the right throttle.

It’s also worth noting that I use the “legacy” input mode - you can switch this on in Accessibility options. I think if you use the new “lock” input mode, some buttons may be scroll wheel driven instead of click driven.
