What Mio calls her fetish, I would call her motherly instincts working overtime. And at the same time, I get it. You just can't help but want to protect those who appear to be the weakest in a group, and Mio Mama enjoys the love she gets from nurturing such characters. It's especially clear when you witness her interactions with her daughter, Ayame~
Subaru tends to dive headfirst into any situation she comes across, and is usually the first to make a move with someone new. She gives the impression that she can handle herself, which is why Mio doesn't indulge her like the others. Subaru's chances of getting properly pampered by Mama Mio may be very low, but they're not zero!
I know they are talking about when they do it in a "in character" manner, but there's been moments when Mio-sha really have been there for Subaru, for example: search "Great friends are a great blessing [Oozora Subaru & surprise guests]" and you'll see!
@monowavy Oh, don't worry; I'm well aware of how much Mio really cares for Subaru! My favorite episode so far is when Subaru was set up at Mio's house, and she was given the full Mio Mama treatment~

Thanks for the long clip! I like how these SMOK (and variations of OKFAMS+Towa) collabs eventually become Subaru bullying streams. I feel kind of bad that Subaru never gets the legendary pampering she wants from Mio, but Subaru's reactions to Mio and Okayu's savagery is hilarious content!
She may not get it, but that's because she doesn't invoke that. And while they talk about pampering, Mio probably feels like she can't pamper her normally, Subaru is fun, high-spirited, strong, and capable despite her physical limitations (weak heart) - that doesn't even slow her down at all. - She's a real powerhouse for this company and routinely one of the most popular. (right now i't pekora, miko and Koyori but subaru is not far behind them in terms of monthly views, likes or subs.

me, being a big Subatomo, kinda feel sorry for Subaru for not receiving that pampering she wishes so badly, but I think it'd be nice if Subaru could see how "cool" and tee-tee it is the fact that Mio-sha is very thankful to her in a way she isn't to many! --but Mio-sha pampering is Godlike, so I can understand Subaru. :D

Subaru's journey getting pampered is still galaxy far far away. While Ayame and Aqua (and Bae) got warm pampering, Shuba got tough love in form of bokken slash.
Subaru emitting confidence aura naturally don't really help as it's the opposite of what Mio wants to protect. And her reaction to praise pretty much fall flat, unlike when she got bullied. Raise up after setback suits her more.
