Same. I watched it only to fill my time because that season I have nothing to watch. I decided to watch "old" anime (I didn't know it was on going at the time). Ended up with a masterpiece.
@@tyleetophbeifong8194 I think the reason for why the op can't feel "something" when watching other anime isn't because it's comedy though, because I remember watching prison school and laugh as hard if not harder then when I watched Gintama, but going to the manga? Hell no the manga was disappointing. The feeling that Gintama gives us is a complex one that I still don't know what it is but it's a good and unique one that you can't find anywhere else
If you can pull off a good dark depressing story ok good. But if you can pull off the most hilarious shit ever and the most depressing thing ever simultaneously, that's a very amazing feat... Man, Sorachi is something else...
The most important thing about Gintama is that, you cannot skip any of the comedy arcs if you want to experience the serious arcs to the fullest. The comedy arcs may be on the outside just comedy based, but actually it goes deeper into characters, builds friendships and unique relationships. Without experiencing these, you won't feel anything from the plot progressing serious arcs. And both types of arcs combined doesn't limit you to be just a fan, but it makes you feel like part of a Gintama Family. No other anime will give you this experience.
yeah this is my main point for recommending gintama. no matter how great the serious arcs are, if the comedy is not for you, then you skip into the serious arcs, theh will hit less hard, and honestly i feel like you should just not watch it that way. gintama at its core is a comedy show, and if you don't like it, then it's really hard to recommend
Gintama is the only anime which forces you to watch the openings and endings cuz you never know what Easter egg is going to be hidden in it. And when you spot those it's just a blast😂😂
i started watching it because i was looking for a comedy anime and boy oh boy when it gets to the serious part...yeah that's. forever my favorite anime😂
I went into it expecting a serious samurai type anime. I was so disappointed but kept watching. But now i would say it’s my favorite anime rn. I love it. I need to go rewatch the first couple episodes.
When I finished Gintama I’ve been left with a void that hasn’t been filled since. I’ve seen stuff like Monster, Berserk, Vagabond, FMAB, Monogatari, etc. since but none of those just have that same effect on me like Gintama did. Gintama taught me stuff that rlly helped with the stuff I was dealing with at the time, and it was just such a great show from start to finish man.
Same man Gintama will forever be my favourite anime personally I slightly prefer berserk over it as berserk impacted me a bit more but I don’t think I’ll ever find another anime as great as Gintama it has everything
@@ProlificPops +1 I agree, Vinland was an anime I can safely suggest as something that was pure amazingness. I thought Berserk & Vagabond were decent, but nothing that really affected or impacted me too much. spent the whole of 2023 watching this anime and just finished it literally today with the final movie. Needless to say, it has become one of my favorites and no other comedy anime had me laughing quite like Gintama

Gintama is literally the only anime that I've rewatched so much that I lost count. I like watching reaction vids cuz I enjoy seeing other people's reactions. Like the part where they get embarrassed when Kondo-san forgot to erase his "I get turned on" part at the correspondence arc. The comedy never gets old and it even gets better every rewatch, there's always something new to notice and to feel. Gintama is honestly amazing, I still can't believe such masterpiece exists... the op and ed are top tiers too!! Each character, the setting, their stories, the aesthetic/art, most importantly the animation staff, seeiyus and their dialogues- every aspect of Gintama you can tell has a lot of heart when they made it. Everyone involved must've had soooo much fun creating each episode. Gintama will forever be my proudest pleasure of watching from episode 1-369 and 4 movies. They literally made me more expressive from crying, cringing, annoyed, confused, teasing/trolling, and laughing- my facial muscles and vocal chords are finally able to genuinely use its functions as I'm quite timid irl. I guess I relate to Gintoki having dead fish eyes, except he's _living_ unlike me who just spent their time _existing._ I've seen a bunch of slice-of-life animes that makes you view life in a certain perspective but they didn't really sink in to my soul- its just another heartfelt good morale show. Its good when you're watching it, but the feeling doesn't stick with you once its not playing on the screen. Gintama, however, overwhelms you with whatever you can pick up and it stays for life. Everytime I'm watching or reading anything, I kept asking myself "I wonder what it'll be like if I hadn't seen Gintama" cuz I already forgot what reaction or feelings I'd felt before Gintama. I just know the pre-gintama me is vastly different. It really influenced my whole being. "Would I appreciate this moment as intensely if I hadn't seen Gintama?" "If I didn't know Shinpachi & Yamazaki, would I even be as equally caring on the supporting characters existence on its own role in that universe? Would I notice everything about them if I hadn't watched Gintama?" "Would I have thoughts of wanting to see every character cry just to add a bit more in their characterization? Even the most badass hardcore ones should be seen tearing up, because I prolly have seen every Gintama character cry." simple thoughts like that pops up cuz I can't help but compare and evaluate how much this anime changed me. Post-gintama is both a blessing and a curse. It just doesn't feel the same watching clips/animes/shows when you have Gintama characters/scenarios going through the ranges of emotions under enjoyable 23 minutes. My heart feels so light and _satisfied_ when talking about Gintama, the words just keeps going, my brain clears up and there's peace of mind. It didn't feel nostalgic but I started blind not knowing any of their names, don't even remember the characters, I don't know anything about their backstories, to recognizing each faces, their names and nicknames, personalities, and what they've been through. Going into Gintama was the best decision I've ever made. Thanks for the review, you said it best. Almost everything I don't like about anime has been covered by Gintama, either in its genre, plot, characters, length, episodes or parodies. And yet with all that setting itself up to fail miserably, it somehow, *somehow* managed to exceed both my low and high expectations, becoming one of my favourite anime of all time in a way that shouldn't even be possible considering my established tastes.

I stumbled Gintama about 1-2 years before I binge watched it. I particularly got hooked with the barber shop episode. So years later, I decided to binge watch it for the comedy but MAN I did not sign up to bawl the way I did, nor be this attached to the series but it was the best decision I've ever made regarding anime. Gintama gives you an experience, not just a story.
2:40 DUDE, I started Gintama and I am the rare few that LOVED it from ep 1. It was great!,then I start bleach and is my No.1 for EVERYTHING. I watched "Flame of rebirth " had a Gintama video.( WHICH IS GREAT BTW) and saw gintoki jumping down to fight "shoyo" and I SAID WTF. I watched the Shogun & farewell and now ita my 2nd favorite. Gintoki is a wonderful way to show " young boys" how to deal with the REAL world . I believe that was the intended goal. Ichigo and Gintoki are the black sheep of Jump. Kubo and hideaki messages are in the same building different floor
I always approve in Gintama appreciation. In my top 5 favourite anime, Gintama is literally my number 1. It has comedy gold and the seriousness and sadness on par with other shonen back story
I understand 300-316 is my fav stretch of eps cos the way i consumed my story was kinda funny, seeing some serious stuff was uncanny but awesome❤🔥❤🔥😎😎
Gintama Adventure Time Mob Psycho 100 The three horsemen of making you laugh and then ripping your heart out, making you a better person in the process 😅
great video! GinTama is by far my favorite piece of art, not just in anime, and it's exactly because of the sheer contrast in the duality between the comedy and the serious parts, and not to mention, the greatest cast ever!
Gintama is special because they don’t rush to open the world up to the viewers, so they can keep things fresh and let the viewer keep discovering the world 300 episodes in
for anyone here that hasnt watch it yes you should for sure watch it may start slow and may be lot of comedy but once you hit those serious arcs you hooked trust me this was my experiece
I kept gintama n the back for sometime as i thought its not worth binge watching, but after benizakura arc it made me curious and want to understand gintoki. 🤩🤩
Gintama has some of the most memorable moments in anime and it is my personal favourite anime of all time and it has some of the greatest character in media Gintoki Sougo Hijikata Kagura Takasugi Zura Nobume Utsuro
Gintama is my favorite anime of all time. Years had passed since I saw it but I don't think it will ever be dethrone. Is it the objectively best, most perfect anime in existence? No. It has flaws. Do I absolutely love it? I do. Words are not enough to express how thankful I am to this anime... It's grand, it's excessive, it's corny, it's exciting, it's heart wrenching. But most of all, it's warm. That's how I describe this anime. watching it is like being enveloped in the warmest of hugs while patting your head with a voice telling you that's it's gonna be okay. It's embarrassing to admit that to this day, I have yet to finish it... I just don't want to..
So glad to see someone going into Gintama with an open mind despite your previous experiences with comedy and long shows in general. Gintama is truly one of the greatest anime ever made, I'm glad to see more people appreciate it especially since most people drop it early because of the slow start.
Great video! Very concise and I heavily agree on practically all of the points. I think that the fact that Gintama as a primarily comedy show is subjective should incentivize people to watch it more as if it hits it will become one of the GOATS for them. Disclaimer: Gintama is my favourite anime as well as entertainment in general haha
there are so many great characters in gintama its hard to pick a favourite one really and i love how the female characters are just as amazing as the male ones !!another amazing part for me is some of the the voice actors and the characters are just perfect for each other katsura and gintoki especially were complete perfection !!
Gintama was a beautiful experience. It's probably the only shonen anime that I have felt a deep connection with and I love shows that do that. Toradora is another one that I had a deep connection with but Gintama beats that. I'd say gintama is my second or third favourite anime
Gintama is my go to anime when I don’t know what to watch, mostly the comedy arcs and some of the earlier seriou arcs( the later ones can get too serious when I’m in the casual mood)
Very professional video mate, well done! Gintama is definitely my favourite anime ;D Also you're an absolute angel for abbreviating those arc names because those things must absolutely not be spoiled. I think you're also one of the first TH-camrs i've seen who gives KNOW KNOW KNOW some recognition, a lot of the reviews and rankings i've seen kinda hate it and i've got no clue why. Adding in that Gintama remix for the outro was also a really nice touch, keep it up!
I’ve been convinced once I’m done with my current re read of Goodnight Punpun imma start it. Also on a side note I think if u watch a couple isekais you would like Konosuba a lot more it is very similar to the pun on its self comedy like what u describe, enjoying in Gintama.
same sentiments dude, great video. If I could forget about Gintama and watch it all over again, I'd gladly do so. But I still enjoy rewatching the episodes, I lost count how many times I rewatched. AND SAME HERE i totally love those 2 OSTs :D not just that I also have the whole anime's OST playlist saved and I still listen to it always
I grew up watching anime and Gintama’s references were all close to home for me like The anniversary of Kochikame and a ep dedicated to Doraemon so on were all hilarious
I hesitate to separate the series chapters/episodes into comedy and serious. I swear the endings to some of the comedy chapters made me bawl harder than the sad moments in actually dramatic mangas/anime. Like the Cellphone arc, for example.
I started Gintama just because the title and samurai premise looked great I thought it was actual historical series the first seconds of the first episodes bruh It became my favorite work of art
Dude, this was an awesome analysis, I decided to watch Gintama after a Bambi parody clip on YT, around 2012 and I fell in love with it, amazing characters, story plot, and the anime adaptation made it justice. Congrats 💞💞💞
It also has one of the best endings to any manga/anime I've seen. People don't talk enough about Silver Soul arc, Aftermath and Gintama: The Final. It managed to be well written AND also satisfying to watch at the same time. You could not imagine how hard it is to actually write an ending that fits those two. Example being the final fight in FMA:B which made perfect sense and was consistent with the logic of the show yet was so underwhelming and felt like a disappointing finale to 25+ volumes of story.
Wonderfully organized video! Really appreciated the way you presented this. Gintama is one of my favorite series, but I'll admit, I had a difficult time when I first tried picking it up. The comedy didn't click with me (and still doesn't sometimes), but I had seen clips from the serious arcs and really liked the animation and the glimpses of plot I caught, so I started seeking out specific arcs and episodes, and the bits of comedy in those helped me build up something of a taste for it, or at least a tolerance. I gave it a proper watch a few years ago, comedy episodes and all, and it's topped my list of favorites ever since.
Great video. I love Gintama, it's a great series. Most series I binge watch to completion or to catch up to what's out, but Gintama is a series I've been watching slowly over the years and always seems to cheer me up at low moments in my life. It's a favorite that I haven't quite finished but am 200+ episodes into and am okay with the fact that while some episodes don't have the same impact as others, the overall feeling I get from the series is something that I have yet to find elsewhere.
The fighting between GintokixHijikata and GintokixTakasugi are one of my favourites rivalship and moments. Anyway thank you, thank you sooo much for this video! I cannot be grateful enough. I've known Gintama for a long time, but only by title. I've never watched it, it's just I only know that it's famous. I kept seeing Gintama here and there, everywhere, so I decided to put it in my to-watch list. You know when you decide to watch an anime, you need to have the motivation to start watching it. I honestly want to watch but I don't have the motivation so I've hold it off for kind of a long time around 2-3 years I guess. One and a half months ago I mustered up all the motivation I can get to finally starts the series. When I first watch it, I don't know what Gintama is about at all. I didn't even know it's a 70% comedy anime. I only watch it because I know it's popular and I wanna know why. Starting the first 20th episodes, like other people, they didn't really hooked me up. I keep being patient. Though it's still a bit uninteresting to me, I wanna know so badly why in the world is the anime so famous. So I stay, and keep watching and watching dozens of the episodes later. By that time, Gintama has succeeded in keeping me from dropping the anime. And of course since the anime has win me over, and by now it takes around one month and a half for me to finally finish the whole series, be it the normal episodes, movies, OVA, specials, all of them. I just finished Gintama the Final yesterday. My number one anime before watching this used to be Diamond no Ace and now, I can say confidently that Gintama has hogged up the spot.
Such a great anime out of all of the comedy i have seen gintama did it the best for me. Like there comedy uses worldbuilding and more love to the characters so u could get to know them then in the serious arcs u love them even more which is real dope. The mc. Gintoki is probably the most different kind of mc i have seen in shounen hes not a teen unlike most mc in shounen and his character already gone through what most shounen mc has yet to experience in his life. ALSO he lived in wars and had to eat maybe corpse or leftover food in the ground which is messed up. Love Gintama.
Thank you so much for making this video....you have no idea how happy this made me..I was smiling all the way.. nodding too...You said everything I feel about Gintama brilliantly! There are very few videos & TH-camrs talking about Gintama compared to other mainstream anime..each scene remains fresh till day...Gintama is my most favourite anime...Gintoki easy Top 3...I love the cast ..yes the best in all of animes I have seen.. character designs are pretty good 🔥... anyone who has watched Gintama will understand how everything will stay ingrained 🤣 Also the ost, openings, endings ❤️ .
love gintama, even though I'm only at ep 180+, gintama is my top 2 anime. Honestly I still don't wanna binge watch it as I know gintama already ended and I know it's gonna be hella great.
I always tend to compare Gintama and the Yakuza games. You can consider the substories to be the funny arcs and the main story to be the serious arc equivalent.
BRUH I was watching the popularity episode the 2nd one i think It had my 😂😂😂😂 at the top of my lungs at 1pm. I couldn't stop laughing. The other one is the 'Stand" hot springs. With the ghost banging heads I gave chuckle, then the second made me laugh harder. Then 3rs "Iam gonna the barber"😂😂😂😂 I am laughing writing thia

So years later, I decided to binge watch it for the comedy but MAN I did not sign up to bawl the way I did, nor be this attached to the series but it was the best decision I've ever made regarding anime. Gintama gives you an experience, not just a story.
Omg, I love that episode so much. One that really sticks out to me is when shinpachi falls for the monster girl and couldn't eat her lol
@@SpudEater Ah pandemonium-san lol. Yup that arc was hilarious.
Gintama genre is called gintama. We'll never find the another series like this again.
Gintama is GREATNESS.
You mean, Goatama ?
Gintama
Adventure Time
Mob Psycho 100
The three horsemen of making you laugh and then ripping your heart out, making you a better person in the process 😅
no one compare to this legendary anime gintama
great video! GinTama is by far my favorite piece of art, not just in anime, and it's exactly because of the sheer contrast in the duality between the comedy and the serious parts, and not to mention, the greatest cast ever!
I Loved Gintama and watched it. I even Modded My FACE with the Gintoki + SSJ5 model into a Bunch of Games. See on > Matschaak
you can almost count Kondo and sacchan as a team. the henai stalkers that team up sometimes.
I’m 14 episodes into this anime and so far I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve been taking it slow and it’s been a delightful experience.
any update on this?
Any update? x2
@@enolathealone
I’ve been busy with school and work. It got put on the back burner.
@@LunaticTrumpet Understandable. Hope you have fun if you return back to it.
11:57 Goosebumps
Gintama is special because they don’t rush to open the world up to the viewers, so they can keep things fresh and let the viewer keep discovering the world 300 episodes in
for anyone here that hasnt watch it yes you should for sure watch it may start slow and may be lot of comedy but once you hit those serious arcs you hooked trust me this was my experiece
Also the relationship between the sorachi sensei and audience is gold✊🔥
I kept gintama n the back for sometime as i thought its not worth binge watching, but after benizakura arc it made me curious and want to understand gintoki. 🤩🤩
Gintama has some of the most memorable moments in anime and it is my personal favourite anime of all time and it has some of the greatest character in media
Gintoki
Sougo
Hijikata
Kagura
Takasugi
Zura
Nobume
Utsuro
i just love the fact that even character that showed up in anime a few time always showed up in the opening, for example Ikumatsu and Tetsuko
You should, after all, all good things must come to an end and I don't think you want to die without seeing that ending.
@@starhammer5247 maybe i really should.
@@pockystick8557 Yeah, trust me, the movie is the perfect ending to the series. You'll love it.
After I saw this show I knew it would be my lifetime favorite and it still is
I almost cried laughing when I remembered Monkey Hunter arc and heard your explanation
So glad to see someone going into Gintama with an open mind despite your previous experiences with comedy and long shows in general. Gintama is truly one of the greatest anime ever made, I'm glad to see more people appreciate it especially since most people drop it early because of the slow start.
Gintama was number 1 for the longest time until Your name is took it out. It was only when the casuals found mal did it drop soo far
Best anime ever. 0 cap. People need to wake up
Gintama is my favorit anime.
Perfection
Gintama was a beautiful experience. It's probably the only shonen anime that I have felt a deep connection with and I love shows that do that. Toradora is another one that I had a deep connection with but Gintama beats that. I'd say gintama is my second or third favourite anime
TH-cam is finally doing its job right, recommending me this video
Gintama for life
Gintama's simply awesome, the only one comparable to another awesome existence: Robin Williams. Good video.
Gintama is my go to anime when I don’t know what to watch, mostly the comedy arcs and some of the earlier seriou arcs( the later ones can get too serious when I’m in the casual mood)
Very professional video mate, well done! Gintama is definitely my favourite anime ;D
Also you're an absolute angel for abbreviating those arc names because those things must absolutely not be spoiled. I think you're also one of the first TH-camrs i've seen who gives KNOW KNOW KNOW some recognition, a lot of the reviews and rankings i've seen kinda hate it and i've got no clue why. Adding in that Gintama remix for the outro was also a really nice touch, keep it up!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words!
Gintama have the best character backstory
Brilliant series with a great re watch value..
Im seeing more Gintama love later and I living for it! Gintama is the best!
Gintama 50% Comedy 50% Pure as F Serious business
I grew up watching anime and Gintama’s references were all close to home for me like The anniversary of Kochikame and a ep dedicated to Doraemon so on were all hilarious
I hesitate to separate the series chapters/episodes into comedy and serious. I swear the endings to some of the comedy chapters made me bawl harder than the sad moments in actually dramatic mangas/anime.
Like the Cellphone arc, for example.
Cell phone arc is a great combo of both
Bro, the old dog and the old man episode made me cry.
I started Gintama just because the title and samurai premise looked great
I thought it was actual historical series the first seconds of the first episodes bruh
It became my favorite work of art
I'm going to cry, thank you.
Zura is just a legend
This is really the perfect anime, saw the movie few days back
What a perfect way to an ending
A perfect masterpiece, not everyone's cup of tea though
Omg i love this!!! Gintama is my favorite show ever it's gold istg!
14:53 what l like is that they had this OP playing in my fav arcs
He is one of us.
I gave it a proper watch a few years ago, comedy episodes and all, and it's topped my list of favorites ever since.
i'm actually a comedy sucker and starting gintama is the best choice i've made
Gintama is the only show I saw that actually takes the piss out of itself and its production team IN THE EPISODES xD
Gintoki is still one of the best shounen protagonists ever and no one can tell me otherwise.
Great video man! Very explanatory! Really important!!! World NEED more Gintama
totally agree
ABSOLUTELY agree
My new favourite quote : WORLD NEED MORE GINTAMA
Really enjoyed this video! I'm glad that you enjoyed Gintama, since it's my favorite anime and it gave me happiness during some tough times.
thanks for giving exposure to this wonderful series which also happens to me my favorite series of all time
Fuck it,this is a sign to rewatch it
The fighting between GintokixHijikata and GintokixTakasugi are one of my favourites rivalship and moments.
Gintama 2015 is now at no. 2
DONDAKE !!!!!!
underrated channel
When I started gintama I went in without knowing anything about it
I didn't even knew that it was a comedy anime
Honestly I still don't wanna binge watch it as I know gintama already ended and I know it's gonna be hella great.
any update on your Gintama binge watching
I always tend to compare Gintama and the Yakuza games. You can consider the substories to be the funny arcs and the main story to be the serious arc equivalent.
You got a new sub and gintoki is the most unique shounen mc I've ever seen he is just the best for me
Only 70 subs? Damn, you’re underrated.
Thank You for this, fellow Silver Balls enjoyer
read sakamoto days... its a new shonen jump series ...at this point it just have 25 chapter but its already have gintama vibe for my opinion
Protagonist with a violent past✅
A china girl ✅
A person called shin ✅
Definitely Gintama vibes
