MoriHime - Shooting Star (GH2 Custom)

- Long time no see, GH2 people!
I've been getting the fuzzies for GH2 again for a couple months now, but my boy Connor dropped me some stems for a song he did for his virtual J-rock group MoriHime a few days ago, and you don't say no to free stems, do you?
In short order, I charted it all up pretty quickly and dusted off my old chart demo disc to show it off in-engine. Normally, when I chart for GH2, something has to get tweaked, either the stage animations or the mix, but here? Pretty much perfect on the first shot. I can't describe how excited I was to see it in-engine. Seriously, every GH2 custom I get working is a little bit like Christmas--I can't 100% tell what it'll look like just from some text events and FeedBack note scrolls, so it's as much a surprise to me as it is to you.
You won't be able to tell from this video, but (shoutout to Felipe who found a way to make this happen) I switched over my formerly very clunky MIDI pitches-based camera cut solution to a text event solution far closer to how Rock Band does its cuts, as I always intended but never 100% figured out. This means I can author cuts directly in FeedBack (fast, easy) and not in Reaper's piano roll (obnoxious, eye-glazing). I'll need to port my existing charts over to this, but going forwards, much easier on myself.
I've been debating the best way to announce my future plans for GH2, but this is what I've got for tonight: I still love this game, and I will do more with it. I will eventually finish up the marfGH discs, and all my other silly ideas. You will see those. I think it'd be a damn shame if all the work I've done and could be doing for easily my favorite game of all time went to waste because of some dumb shit that happened in a Discord server almost two years now. I'm not saying right now, but I'm saying by the end of 2025, there will be something big from me. I might still go into more detail in a video, but you'll have to give me a bit. I'm working full time now, and my time is a lot more precious to me as a result.
The MoriHime stuff is fucking killer, and if you like your J-music, you can check out Connor's full tribute to Sonic Adventure's soundtrack over on his Bandcamp: morihime.bandca...
And! Although I'm holding the full GH2 chart for a future marfGH, since this video is partially meant to promote his album (again, go listen to it, some phenomenal effort went into it), I've prepared a Clone Hero version of this chart which you can grab off my website: mariteaux.somnolescent.net/modding/guitar-hero/charts/morihime_-_shooting_star_ch.zip
(You will have to copy and paste this into your browser's address bar because TH-cam now forces HTTPS on links, and my site doesn't use that because I don't want it to. Thank you TH-cam, the continual march towards computers making all the decisions for you continues.)
Stay tuned, folks. If you're here twenty years after GH2 came out, you're probably in it for the long haul, and I thank you for that. Let's give this another try.
good stuff man! genuinely blown away by the camera cuts and cinematography hahah, thank you so much for this
Yeah, I'm super proud of how this came out, glad you like too! Excited to see it posted around all your music sites and things.
i discovered your channel through the pocketwatch cassette demo's from DG, but i now found out you're a part of some old 5 fret communities. would just like to say thank you for uploading those demo tracks and it's cool to see your work with GH2 and other games
Thank you, much more GH to come! (Probably not more early Foo to come though, I don't have anything else there.)
Marf, good work on this chart. It remembers me that I need to start doing my own charts (besides that, it remembers me of a GH2 hack made in my homeland: Anime Hero).
This has me hyped for what's in store for MarfGH, can't wait to see what else you have cooked up!
Loved everything in this custom, I'm happy that you are back marf, hope new charts will come soon
Feels good to be back! Definitely have no shortage of songs to chart--will keep everyone posted.
This is awesome!
you finally uploaded!
I always come back!
@@mariteaux ty homie
This song is should be on guitar hero fr 🔥 what a banger
helloo sry if im impolite but english is not my first language.
i downloaded a few rock band ps2 isos that were tampered in some way to allow for dualshock support. The dude that uploaded them credited you for discovering how to do this tampering, but skimming through your github with the rockband patches and tools i could't find anything about it.
I have a custom rock band ISO that i want to modify to be able to support playing with a controller. Can you help me a bit?
i tried asking the dude that uploaded the modded isos about this but they are MIA
Also thank you for your work
Yeah, I remember doing that for my own use, but I can't remember exactly how I did it. They were never meant to be official, so I never released them through GitHub. Probably just sent the patched files to people over Discord and they put out discs with them. I'll investigate on my own copies and see if I can't jog my memory about it.
I believe I found it. It's a simple change in config/band.dta. In the instrument_mapping array, dualshock is normally set to kControllerVocals (so if you have a DualShock plugged in, it'll boot you to playing on vocals). I simply switched it to (dualshock kControllerGuitar). I think that's all that was necessary.

@@mariteaux i extracted the ARK file but i cannot find the band.dta in the config file, should i just put your band.dta in there? or am i missing something?
@@holasoynoob090 config is a directory, not a file. The game doesn't use DTA files, it uses DTB files. You have to use dtab to convert between the two. lofi.mariteaux.somnolescent.net/modding/guitar-hero/tutorials/using-dtab/
DTB files for Rock Band are stored in gen folders. You might also have to worry about encryption, depending on if your ARK extractor program performs crypts or not (ArkTool and arkhelper do, ARK Expander does not).
