This reminds me of why I sold my Toyota for a Rolls Royce. IT is just a better car overall. I love the hand built quality of a nice British car. I love the RR emblem staying still while the wheels are turning. I love the lamb wool carpets. The umbrella inside the door etc etc. in the end the Toyota driving experience did not do it for me. Nothing wrong with that. It just was not for me. Even though the car rarely ever had any issues , I just love the feel of driving a Rolls Royce.

As well as being able to have autofocus for the occasional need is really nice. I actually think the ZF compliments someone who also own Leica m cameras really well.

Hey Coop somehow I stumbled across your channel. It is a very interesting take from you as I went from selling the M240 and going for the Nikon ZF with the Voigtlader APO 50mm lens as my primary driver. My M240 was definitely more fun compared to the ZF but the low light performance + the prohibitive cost nature of the M10/M11 made me think the ZF was a good compromise. Well articulated from your side from Cronulla.
Cheer mate. Personally I think low light performance gets given to much focus these days. The M10 is fine colour wise at 1600 and at 3200 I convert to black and white. Any higher and I would be useikt a flash
Have you tried the EVF on the Leica SL2? The only EVF I actually enjoy to use. Big natural view experience. And very fast and easy to zoom in to make a fine check, if needed.
I am actually thinking of going the other way. I need to hold a Zf to see how it feels, but I am pretty set on switching. My main thing is that I hate shooting the 50mm (my favorite lens) with the rangefinder. Between the crop lines and tnot being able to use the whole space of the view finder to see what I am shooting, it makes it for a less pleasing experience in my opinion, compared to a EVF. Camera built, color science and so on are amazing in the Leica. I just wish they put a EVF/Hybrid in it. Full disclosure, even in film, I always found that shooting a regular reflex is more pleasant than a rangefinder.

Thanks for watching for all these years! Yeah sure I can do a video like that. Aside from autofocus I don’t think the M10 has any limitations personally
That ZF stole a lot of Fuji users away for sure. It really is the body a lot of them have been asking for all along. I can't get into the Z designs, any of them. I shot the D70 through D500 and loved them at the time. The Z... just no. It's like holding an old laptop charger or something. Once you go M though, it's hard to be happy on other systems again. There are times where other bodies are necessary obviously... but it never feels the same. Any time I pick up another camera, I can't wait to get back home to my Leicas. I know people feel the same for their Sony, or Fuji, or Nikon, etc. Totally cool, happy for anyone who finds the right kit for themselves!
Interesting! I have the ZF and an M11. There’s no way the M camera feels better in the hands. It’s heavy and slimmer and even more slippery than the ZF!!

Sorry your experience was not what you wanted. I love my Zf. Its so F3 like, muscle memory had my thumb feeling for the film advance. I use the lenses from my M3, MX, F3 on it as well my large 80-200 & 28-70 AF s ED metal monsters. I find the camera a breeze to hold and the 100% punch in straight to the eye when MF on the old lenses is fantastic. Just goes to show there is no such thing as the perfect camera - there's only the prefect camera for you.
Thank you very much for this interesting video. I am a Leica photographer for 30 years using M6, M8 and MP240. I was thinking purchasing the Zf for some reasons but never used autofocus (my eyes quality are going down with age). I tried in the shop and really hate the electronic view finder (like you said), the lag etc. I also hate the system to choose for me where to focus etc. My question is, do we get use to the EVF with time? Did one of you used the Zf off road in war zones or in the bush? Again thank you so much! T
I have been shooting Leica M for 15 years. And I also always had a version of a EVF camera with it (Lecia SL, Sony, Canon Hasselblad, Fuji). I find the pros of a EVF to be exceptional compared to the rangefinder. Takes you a bit the first time to get accustomed to it, but after that the advantages are great. From focus zooming and peaking to seeing the actual exposure. I think the rangefinder is much better suited for wider lenses and film.
You should have bought a Nikon Df. It'll give you what you want. As to the weight of the Zf you get use to it. I'm 72 and I don't have a problem with it. I did put some Dragon Grips on it but I do that with all of my cameras.

It made the camera unusable for me, no matter what I tried. A shame, really, as the sensor in the Zf was very nice.
The camera is great but ergonomic sucks. My left wrist is killing me when I use ZF with a 24-120 4f S . I haven't tried another lens but to be honest I'm not pleased at all.
Hi Coop. Great video, new subscriber here. I think the M10 is probably a great camera but my wife would divorce me for making such a purchase. Keep up yhe great videos!
I was a little surprised to hear about his issue with the ergonomics. I expect the ZF handling to be a problem with long lenses, but with smaller lenses, especially Leica M ones, it's definitely better. I thought I'd buy the grip, but it works fine as is. I never tried a Leica, so I can't comment on that, but by the look, it's confusing to hear that it works better than the ZF when on the Leica there isn't even the little protrusion grip that ZF has. Even the weight isn't a huge difference. But the handling of a camera is something quite personal and everyone reacts differently. The other complaint I wouldn't have expected is the manual focus. The ZF is the first camera that allows subject detection with any manual lens. That alone, is helping tremendously. You also get focus confirmation when using lenses with electronic contacts.
With the TT artisan 6 bit adapter and Leica lenses, the ZF is a good as and as easy to shoot as a Leica. Without the 6 bit i agree that evf is that great.
Did I say that? I just meant Nikon crammed a lot of new tech into it. The new Fuji XH cams are probably just as capable, just depends if you want a crop sensor or full frame
Didn’t you know the ZF didn’t have an optical view finder before you purchased it? I’m asking because you brought up this point several times, that you prefer optical to electronic view finders.
Either TH-cam is giving you a ton on money or you got 8 promotions last month. Love the look and manual feel of the M10 but the price was a stake in the heart. Maybe if I sell a lung for $10000..
You actually hit all of the dislikes of the Nikon Z line that I have. I had the Z fc and Z 5 but sold them off to stay with my Nikon film and digital bodies. In the meantime, I picked up the Leica M11 and LOVE it. I still have the Fujifilm X100F, which is the only camera that I have with an EVF. I find it fine for how I use it. Sadly, it mostly sits on the shelf, but I am having issues with letting it go. Nice video, BTW.
I would suggested if people can't afford this camera a Fujifilm x Pro 2 would give a very similar experience possibly an xt3 as well from Fujifilm as well these both these cameras are very affordable and we'll give you much better bang for Buck in terms of lenses
50 grams of weight might make a difference, but I don't think so. Not everyone likes an electronic viewfinder and that's a good argument for a change. And a chief is a chief is nothing to argue about.
I just don't understand why you'd make a retro camera with a video Centric screen .. 26 megapixels it doesn't give you much room to crop either crop photos when we maybe are walking around with one lens we are going to need to crop at 26 megapixels it's not much cropping ability
Cropping is over used, IMO you never need much more than 20 megapixels. Even for large prints. I've got a 40 mp Sony but mainly use my 26 mp Fuji. Use the right lens for the right job, take your time and get the shot right and you don't need to crop. If you are cropping more than 10% you are using the wrong lens. If after all that you need a violent crop then Lightroom super resolution.
@@shootswithcoops I don't understand about the flip out screen either. That's just stupid everyone hates them except for video people so have they made a camera for video or they have they made a camera for Photography I guarantee you and I do a lot of photography. I'm a professional photographer I teach Photography and I would not pass this camera to a student. It's heavy it's bulky Street cameras are meant to be discreet and small. I'm sure the bill quality and the image quality is good out of this camera but they've missed the boat again. I actually believe they needed to make another crop sensor ZF camera. But make it with 35 megapixels and make it light and small. Why do you think Fujifilm has been so successful? It's because their cameras are small and portable duh
having 10k - 20k on your shoulder to shoot photographs for fun is some insanely privileged shit.... though damn wish could own one without being hyper paranoid about it
If you know you dont like evf to begin with then why even bother buying the zf in the first place, i really dont get it. I know you needed to make TH-cam content but the reason for switching to leica is really stupid. But i guess you bought the zf so you can make video like this 😂
Interesting comparison. I am glad that the you-tube feed decided to recommend this presentation to me. Thanks! I reckon that it is inevitable that I will buy a Zf, perhaps as soon as 2024, though my wife, as the senior photographer, will have first priority, if she likes it. She was the persuader, who finally got me to start wanting to carry an interchangeable-lens system camera, and then the mentor who guided my early path into serious photography, starting in 2009. I added the Leica M system in early 2018, starting with a pre-owned M lens and a new M10, after a modest, one-time financial windfall. Neither of us have upgraded since 2018, when when my wife and then I added D850 cameras, and we then added a Z6, for her.
Interesting. I have thoughts, but I'm going to sleep on them for a bit. You've come a long way from selling all your cameras to doing a ZF v. M10 comp. Times must be good. I don't wish anything less than that for you and I'm psyched, but, coop, really? I give you 9 months, as much as a child to be born, to sell your M10. Prove me wrong.
@@shootswithcoops I know you like a challenge. To be fair, I have faithfully devoted myself through unspeakable vows to my M3 and FMN2 for decades and have never shot digital. @@MakersTeleMark There is focus assist (with eye recognition) including old glass on the Zf, by the way. But... weight, handling, plastic finish primes, and that ugly hinge on the back --> Nikon, bring back my FE2, please 😠
Without gear respect the Fujifilm xt5 is a much better camera and I've held both cameras in my hands and I own a Fujifilm. I also own a Nikon d850 and a GFX camera as well 50s ii... I just think 26 megapixels is laughable.
Yeah no clue what you’re talking about. I had a gfx100s and get better output with my Leica sl2 which is half the resolution. Can’t beat Leica glass man.
The Zf is nice but it's lacking the tactile feeling as the Leica. The best thing about Leica is its laundry list of very compact lenses especially those collapsible M39 mount ones. I can carry a ME240 and MP in one Peak Design 3L sling bag. I just can't do that with any other full frame cameras. The M shooting style and handling are way different from the Zf of course. Having owning the Zf for a couple of weeks, I think it's a great retro-looking camera. It actually pairs well with some of my Leica/Zeiss/Voigtlander lenses. However, it 's significantly larger than the Leica M body. I would say, they are two different beasts for different purposes. I wouldn't keep the Leica as my main camera. There are so many things that it cannot do or cannot do well. The Leica is a luxury item. Are you going to get Visoflex2?
Leica is nice but it’s missing auto focus, video feature, EVF, IBIS, weather sealing, very fast burst rate, fast processor, many more…all that for 3 times the price of a ZF.
Good points, people forget also how Big and chunky all the Nikon Z lenses are. No visoflex for me, I tired one years ago and didn’t like the delay that it has
Did you also managed to invest 15.000 USD in Leica lenses , at least for the 3 main lenses someone would need 28mm Elmarit, 50mm Summicron and 90mm Elmarit. and these are the lowest level you can get. you can also decide to buy voigtlander but thats not the real experience to get the Leica colours , I tried them all
TH-cam vloggers are very wasteful, irresponsible people. A freaking week. And you know that camera goes into the refurb, second-hand pile. In the age of the Internet, who can't research all they want about a camera before making a decision. Or if you really need to be sure, rent it first.

With the TT artisan 6 bit adapter and Leica lenses, the ZF is a good as and as easy to shoot as a Leica. Without the 6 bit i agree that evf is that great.
You mention that the ZF packaged a lot more than the Fuji’s and that was worth the price difference. Could you expand upon what that meant for you?
Did I say that? I just meant Nikon crammed a lot of new tech into it. The new Fuji XH cams are probably just as capable, just depends if you want a crop sensor or full frame
The XH camera are nothing like the retro XT and X-Pro camera Fuji made. They’re going for the PSAM market now, which is turning me away from fuji.
Didn’t you know the ZF didn’t have an optical view finder before you purchased it? I’m asking because you brought up this point several times, that you prefer optical to electronic view finders.
People like what helps them feel comfortable, I like the ZF with the grip and photography wise it’s fun and that’s what matter for my enjoyment.
I have a Sony A7RV and want to expand into smaller compact cameras. The Fuji film x100v is on my radar
Peak at the pixii if your going crop sensor
Either TH-cam is giving you a ton on money or you got 8 promotions last month. Love the look and manual feel of the M10 but the price was a stake in the heart. Maybe if I sell a lung for $10000..
black m6 I see? no more silver?
Still smoking the records for buying and selling gear 😂Haha congrats on the M10!
You know me better than anyone else bro 😂 but I finally feel I’ve settled on my perfect combo
@@shootswithcoops didn't you have a silver M6 rather than black?
@PushingFilm of course you picked up on that 😉, there is a funny story I’ll tell you about that
@@shootswithcoops haha looking forward to it
You actually hit all of the dislikes of the Nikon Z line that I have.
Fair enough Coops. You do you! We all got GAS so this resonates well with me 😂 Love the channel btw!
Wow, that was fast.
I would suggested if people can't afford this camera a Fujifilm x Pro 2 would give a very similar experience possibly an xt3 as well from Fujifilm as well these both these cameras are very affordable and we'll give you much better bang for Buck in terms of lenses
Your right about the Xpro2 for sure
Nice comparison review.
i can’t keep up with your GAS.
Neither can my wife 😂
Maybe they should have pulled back on video and focused more on the photo experience
You compare things that can t be compared… and handling a Leica m without a grip or a thumb rest is … original :).
I sold nikkor50mmf1.2 for M10.
having 10k - 20k on your shoulder to shoot photographs for fun is some insanely privileged shit.... though damn wish could own one without being hyper paranoid about it
Digital! You have gone soft.
If you know you dont like evf to begin with then why even bother buying the zf in the first place, i really dont get it. I know you needed to make TH-cam content but the reason for switching to leica is really stupid. But i guess you bought the zf so you can make video like this 😂
Same thoughts here
Interesting comparison.
Get nether of these and buy a XPro IMO. This like comparing apple to oranges. Two vasty different shooting experiences.
I have a ZF and I feel exactly the same. I’m about to make a video on it myself
Oh Eric! Lol the god of gas!
@@christopherrodriguez7223 game knows game lol
I’m glad it’s not just me! Haha
I have zf and m6 with Leica glass and damn maybe I need my m10 back too. Hahaha. 😂
A digital camera is a digital camera 😂
I disagree
Interesting. I have thoughts, but I'm going to sleep on them for a bit. You've come a long way from selling all your cameras to doing a ZF v. M10 comp. Times must be good. I don't wish anything less than that for you and I'm psyched, but, coop, really? I give you 9 months, as much as a child to be born, to sell your M10. Prove me wrong.
Challenge accepted dear Sir
@@shootswithcoops I know you like a challenge. To be fair, I have faithfully devoted myself through unspeakable vows to my M3 and FMN2 for decades and have never shot digital. So, I put this on you, young skywalker. Because if I were to ever buy a digital camera, it would be a ZfII with an optical viewfinder, and focus assist for my old amazing Neeekon lenses, including my leica glass. Thanks brother for going through the pain before me.
@@MakersTeleMark There is focus assist (with eye recognition) including old glass on the Zf, by the way. But... weight, handling, plastic finish primes, and that ugly hinge on the back --> Nikon, bring back my FE2, please 😠
@@jean-charles9931 Make a simple 4000 shutter speed manual camera. I can shoot wide open or an nd, in the desert. I really want an F6.
I love my Zf, to each their own :) ... hopefully they will make an improved version in the future, cheers and congrats on your purchase.
Another "look at my camera" vlogger.
Without gear respect the Fujifilm xt5 is a much better camera and I've held both cameras in my hands and I own a Fujifilm. I also own a Nikon d850 and a GFX camera as well 50s ii... I just think 26 megapixels is laughable.
Man, I’ve got 10mp crop Nikon D200, and that make sweet A3 size prints, 24mp is fine for 95% of use cases
Yeah no clue what you’re talking about. I had a gfx100s and get better output with my Leica sl2 which is half the resolution. Can’t beat Leica glass man.
Its called GAS mate, we all have it, no need for a whole video to explain!
Enjoy your new camera.
No need for you to watch it then lol
You can buy gfx camera for $4,000 now and that just destroys the zf Nikon camera
Your totally right, but 100mp is super overkill for me, and the GFX is just too big for a daily carry imo
Just wait when you start buying lenses for it. Ouch!
Good points, people forget also how
Big and chunky all the Nikon Z lenses are.
Thanks Mate
It's actually pronounced like "knee-cone" (ni-ko-n) but alright
like a catfish lol
