I would add to your argument that if lack of intelligence or low level of intelligence justifies animal cruelty and abuse, then we should ask ourselves, in a human society where there is a spectrum of intelligence levels, is it justified to be more cruel to lower intelligent people than to the higher ones ?!
No matter how smart or dumb a living beings are, they fully experience emotions. They deserve to be happy…

What a load of bull. I'm so glad I didn't waste any of my vote on this party.
If you are really concerned about animals then start with shutting down McDonalds and Ribs shops in Australia... or is it just killing them in more Human way ?
I see "certain" type of people showing more compassion to their designer dogs then to the people of different race. How about we fix this first?

This is intriguing speculative thinking as most so called psychologists are selective in nature. Yes treatment to animals should be based on the benevolent aspects hoped for like feeding a prisioner before execution. Most indigenous people are horribly treated by the so called advanced nations. Probably they value self interests more than to this selective utopia.

In Canada and the US, we are given preferential treatment by the government. What are you talking about? The problem is the corrupt Chiefs and tribal leaders that the government turns a blind eye to. Money is given to tribal leaders by the government, but little of it reaches the people or the projects they're meant for.
Many of the communities in northern Canada who have to boil water have been given funds to build water treatment plants, but the money just seems to disappear before it hits the ground, and then the tribal leaders direct the people's anger towards the government, away from them. Some of these communities (reserve and non reserve) are dangerously remote and have always had to boil their drinking water.
You have to understand, reserves are like little communist dumps. You have the political class tribal leaders which include a small business class who get preferential treatment and lack accountability, and then the plebiscite class. They use the federal and state governments as bogeymen.
(this is not all reserves - you will see various degrees of this.)
