    Nice boat. I have a 1972 GT160 that I am getting back out right now. It has been parked for 13 years. I am in Grand Rapids, Mi.

    This brings back good memories! I had a 16' Tahiti that I put a brand new (at the time) 1988' Suzuki 150 HP on it with a jackplate. Top speed unofficially was 60+ no GPS back then, chine walk was DEFINITELY an issue haha! Beautiful boat and great video, keep em coming!
    Long live 2 strokes!

    Good looking boat,,,, I had one just like it more Cashmere metallic, pulled a 115 Tower of chain saws off and put a Johnson crossflow 200/185PS HP, 21 Cleaver. Went from 54MPH to around 67-8, somewhere in there. That HO probably has close to that, 165 maybe.
    Anyway around 60 chine walk sets in without a shotgun rider, makes it exciting. Great ski boat. It doesn't have a core so keep an eye out for a crack developing along the hull underneath the driver where the floor meets the chine. Look for stress cracks in the splashwell . I reinforced the transom when I put he V-6 on. Pull your arms off dry starting on a slalom ski. I use to leave 3 coils of rope in front of me, after the V-6 no coils needed.
    Have fun and be safe out there.

      I’m estimating the etec at 165hp as you mentioned. Definitely has chine walking issues above 55mph but with passengers it helps stabilize the ride. It’s a great sport boat for sure. Love cruising in it.

      @@Stromzilla If you look close you'll see some resemblance in the nose to an Allison. I think Darris kind of liked that part of the design. If you aren't already a member I'm sure there's a Glastron Forum you'd find a lot of tricks to work through on yours. They have a following for sure.
      This CVX 16 I speak of was 38 or so years ago. I recently finished repairing with many updates on a 1991 Hydrostream 21 Voyager XT with a Yamaha 250 HPDI VMAX that's great fun. Open Bow family sedan. It's all fun stuff.

    That trailer don’t do that nice boat justice, but damn you winched that up fast!

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trailer is a 1986 Shoreline. Replaced all the rollers and wheel bearings 2 years ago. Wheels were balanced. It’s very light weight to pull, and pulls straight. It’s a keeper.

    • @jimmycline4778
      @jimmycline4778 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Stromzilla I’m sure it’s a good reliable trailer, but the boat would look even nicer with a wider bigger trailer with 14 or 15 inch wheels! They just look nicer! It would complete your package!

    Love this boat. At minute 7:28, just to the right of center on the screen, there is a bolt with a round top sticking up off the rear part of the boat. The left side has one also but isn't shown. Does anyone know what those are for? I ask because I purchased a 1982 boat not too long ago and it has the same bolts and I have no idea what they are for.

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the thing next to the well near the motor sticking straight up with a round ball on the top of the rod-like device? If so, there’s 2, 1 mounted into the glass on either side of the boat well and used for a tripod ski-tow mount…water skiing. I didn’t bother to remove because it would leave holes for me to fill.

  • @bjlee1988
    @bjlee1988 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice combo. In the late 90s I had a CVX 20 with a 200, the hulls really handle the chop well and perform well. Get rid of that primer ball, buy a BRP one. You don't want fuel delivery issues to that etec. Your setup is good for lake cruising and waterskiing, how I had mine setup. You can get more speed out of those hulls at the cost of cruising / skiing.

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That primer will be gone this spring...good advice.

    • @Stromzilla

      @@gjkMN They are very quiet. Evinrude went thru many pains to make these motors quiet. Will never forget the first time we started our Etec in the backyard…I swear it was quieter outta the water than the original 115 Evinrude while in the water. That tells me they really worked the exhaust for noise reduction along with many other areas.

    Did you have to engine match your systems check gauge or are they fairly universal? Trying to find one for my 200 Johnson 2000 MY.

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question and I honestly don’t know the answer. However, my guess is the Etec and Ficht outboards might use the same gauge. I would research that one before purchasing.

    WHAT IS THE TOP SPEED OF THIS BOAT WHIT THE E TECT 150

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fastest speed recorded on the GPS is 63 mph.

  • @brianlavigne3579
    @brianlavigne3579 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice boat. What kind of speed do you get at 5500 rpm? I have a similar boat with an 80 hp and top speed is about 40mph. Planning on trying a bigger engine though.

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  ปีที่แล้ว

      RPM tops out at 5,000. Top speed is 63 mph with the front end buried to keep chine walking under control. Currently using a high pitch prop for best cruise efficiency and because the boat is so light it still accelerates well.

  • @grantdubridge7995
    @grantdubridge7995 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you have some problem if it only goes less then 40 mph with that modern engine. I think you need to trim that baby up. Get the boat out of the water. Why is it going such low RPMs? It should be at 5400 - 6000 RPMs.

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The boat is always trimmed out except when running in the 60mph range where chine walking becomes an issue. If you see low rpm, think low power setting with the throttle.

    • @grantdubridge7995
      @grantdubridge7995 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Stromzilla You said you were going to show what it would do then you went 37 mph. That's why I was questioning .

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never said it was full throttle. I was showing how fast this boat can cruise at a low power setting with a cruise prop (14.5x26). Gives excellent fuel economy. Full throttle nets well over 60 as I’ve shown in our other videos and if it didn’t have chine walking issues it would likely go 70…unfortunately to go really fast we have to plow water. Trimming up the bow gets too hairy.

    That boat is only 16ft with a 150 you should all ways wear a life jacket while running and especially a KILL SWITCH! I have 2 bass boats my smaller one has a 150 opitimax my 20footer has a 225 Mercury 85mph but I wear my life jacket and kill switch on both! You won’t have a chance if you some how you get dumped out of that little boat with that 150 circling around you! I love your boat but why does it have such a little trailer?

    • @jimmycline4778
      @jimmycline4778 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was that full throttle, trimmed up?

    • @Stromzilla
      @Stromzilla  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The CVX16 with 150hp cannot be fully trimmed due to excessive chinewalk. And that is why top speed checks out at 62 mph. If we could maintain stability it would exceed 70mph IMO. However, we didn’t mount 150hp for the topend so I’m hardly concerned about the lack of topend speed.
