  • Paul says Jesus bore “the curse of the law” for us. What does this mean? In this session, we explore God's covenant relationship with Abraham, and through Abraham with humanity and the difference between a penal curse and a covenant curse.

Thank you so much Ty and David for this journey through Galatians. I'm nearly eighty years old and have struggled to understand WHY Christ had to suffer and die. . Now the truth of God's covenant with Abraham ha been made clear to me. Praise our ever-faithful Abba Father Praise Jesus helping me to understand the faith OF Jesus. I'm looking forward to next week.

You guys give me a much better understanding of the Bible. I would love to see y’all continue with this mode of teaching. I would especially love to see you go through the book of Romans, my favorite book of the Bible!

This is the second time I am hearing that the COVENANT between God and Abraham (Genesis 15) and now us and God actually requires nothing from us except accepting what Jesus has done. I don't know why I have spent my whole life not understanding this, in spite of diligent Bible Study and now I learn this? I want to hear it again. I want to accept this more then my next breath without another moments doubt or the "paganism of legalism" that has shackled me for so many years. Thank you

I am realizing more and more. The gospel is lived out in our experience of relationships. Knowing scripture from Gen to Rev will mean nothing if it's not real in the life. In all experiences think of others salvation and self will be lost sight of. I can't wait to say great peace have I who love your law and nothing shall offend me! Because I will be crucified with Christ and Christ's love will flow out of this vessel to others. Even those who curse. Thank you both and praise God

The Lord is using you to turn my world upside down. I'm burning out the rewind button! 😉 So much to digest in light of my old way of thinking.
I love the reminder it's by FAITH in JESUS we are saved. It rolls right off my tongue, but it's never taken root in my heart like it's doing now. TY!!
When I start to watch the new episode, I find myself going back & to listen again to the previous one. (And still hit rewind several times!)
I'm saturating my mind with this beautifully explained teaching so I don't have those pagan anxieties anymore, but replaced with not mere wishing, but by actual FAITH in the Fact of the Good News as Paul passionately defended. ( I've mostly disliked him in the past.) Now I understand him yelling at the legalists, of whom I am chief so often. 😟
My new NLT Bible has become even more exciting. I'm marking it like crazy with notes along the sides, and hearts. TY!
I loved the thought that the curse is not penal but consequential.
I can see God as amazingly good in the whole story book now. I'm actually beginning to believe I can be saved. TY!!
God bless you two! Keep it coming!!

PS; You've probably already filmed the whole series, but in case not, it would be helpful if you could look at the camera that's running so it appears you're looking at us. When you look at the other one, it feels like you're speaking to someone else entering the room but we can't see them. (But then I'm easily distracted.) 😉

Peter’s mother-in-law wanted to set a table for Jesus and His friends. Jesus had to heal her before she could. And then her first delight was to prepare that table! Thinking of the table as the metaphor of fellowship between God and man that we partake of makes that story even more beautiful!

The picture IS becoming clearer as I study with you. I SEE and CONNECT perceive. In my studies, I see the Bible as a exceedingly large puzzle that as I am being taught by the Holy Spirit, sections become more pronounced and clearer. Joining you in this study has given me more understanding and Wisdom (that I pray constantly for) so that I might speak it to others in love. Thank You for your faithfulness to your calling as ministers of the gospel!

Our pastor has an inclusive way of teaching us. He interacts and makes us be inclusive in his sermons. It has been very enjoyable and makes you feel relaxed and you go home filled and ready to share with others. I shouldn't say makes because it isn't forced on us. We now laugh and continue to discuss long after church is over and more importantly share what we learn with others. We want to continue fellowship all Sabbath.

Jesus uncovers the key to receiving the blessings that come through the covenant in matthew 7:7 "Ask and keep asking it shall be given, seek and keep seeking and you shall find, knock and keep knocking and the door will be opened." I was in my bathroom one day and I heard God speaking to me, "you need to ask God for more favor and blessing in your life!" Sometimes we think that blessings just automatically fall on us but they come by our believing and active participation of "asking."

I have been told by a family member that God gave us GRACE but I am "running after law" as if law and grace are two different aspects of salvation. What I understand is that we receive grace so that we can keep the law which is our guide, not our judge. God expects 100% holiness and perfection from us, and we cannot find that in ourselves, only in CHRIST. So nothing we do can make up for our shortcomings; we must look to Christ not to make up the difference but to provide the 100% requirement expected by God our Father; as He is perfect, so will we appear before Him (God our Father) in Christ. Christ kept the law; we place our faith in His perfect law-keeping, we receive the Spirit as our guarantee of God's acceptance of us; and our salvation is assured; no artificial additives required.

Am enjoying the dialogue and being blessed spiritually by the dive into Galatians. 2 Thoughts I've had - one the judaizers - those that were pushing circumcision had some scriptural basis for their view. Look at how Moses was almost killed - likely by the pre-incarnate Jesus for not having circumcised his boys. The Abrahamic covenant which included circumcision was to be an everlasting covenant. The early church wrestled over this question - and came to the conclusion that since God had given the Spirit to the uncircumcised Gentiles He didn't require them to do that. The other thought I had was that I see no scriptural evidence that circumcision was given to Abraham in answer to his failing to believe and sleeping with Hagar. It's possible but seems to me to be conjecture. Again I am being richly blessed by your studying together and will look forward to more.

All of this, that we may know HIM, we must know and believe the New Covenant Messiah. Otherwise we will fall for the anti-Christ the false Messiah to come. The first Covenant is Gone! Christ established the 2nd by His life and death. Hebrews 9:15-17, Hebrews 10:9,10 tells us so and that there is NO sanctification under the Old Covenant. Thank God he rescued us out of darkness into His marvelous light of UNDERSTANDING!!

    Israel IS Ishmael
    Hi all
It is So surprising that no one knows that the people (Jerusalem) that did Not believe the Christ, killed the Christ, and replaced the Christ with their doctrine. That is the definition of the Antichrist. They cause trouble for the Christ ians. Just like Ishmael caused trouble for Issac in:
Gal 4:29 But the other son of Abraham, who was born in the normal way (Through intercourse), caused trouble for the one who was born by the power of the Spirit (miracle). It is the same today.
It was Ishmael that was born only of the flesh. And he represents the earthly Jerusalem like it say in the scripture below. The earthly Jerusalem has no spirit because they can’t believe in Jesus. Today the fleshly Jews are our fathers of the flesh.
Heb_12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh (Jerusalem) which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Gal_4:25 So Hagar is like Mount Sinai in Arabia. She is a picture of the earthly Jewish city of Jerusalem. This city is a slave, and all its people are slaves to the law.
Isaac was born of the spirit (miracle) birth to Sarah. Jesus was born of spirit (miracle) birth to Mary. Isaac was chosen by God, Jesus was Chosen by God. They together represent the born-again Christian as chosen by God. Which is the New Jerusalem Kingdom Jesus brought 2000 years ago. It is still growing like a mustard seed. Abraham was promised Jesus (the seed) to bring this better land (New Kingdom) and if you are on the narrow path it directly leads you to heaven.
Heb 11:16 But now they stretch forth to a better fatherland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
Jesus also tells us of this.
Joh_14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Abraham is still alive today in a spiritual body in the heavenly land and he saw it be fulfilled when Jesus came to earth.

Joh_8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Mat_22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
    They live today in Heaven.
The only reason you would want to be of Ismael is that you want to inherit the physical land of a physical Jerusalem like the Jews and not the spiritual heavenly land.
Gal 4:30 But what do the Scriptures say? "Throw out the slave woman and her son Ishmael! The son of the free woman will receive everything his father has, but the son of the slave woman (Jerusalem) will receive nothing."

The Judaizers who dogged the footsteps of Paul wherever he went, came in behind him in Galatia and seemingly everywhere he traveled. The 3 reasons you mention that Paul used Abraham seems to all be fully in play. It seems the same reason he spent all of Romans 4 on the same thing, and living down stream in history we have them all! 'Law keeping' (as a means or method or contributing factor to our salvation) has crept in as a means unto itself and is likely buried deep in our natures. The 'professed believers' who came in behind him are not unlike those who misuse what is considered 'prophetic literature' today lifting quotes to justify creating the 'schizophrenia' many of us have experienced. It's only the good news of who we are IN Christ that can set us free. I have died! "I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me! And the life I now live in this flesh I live believing the Faithfulness of Messiah, who loves me and gave Himself for me!" It's not even this life that gets saved, but a new life that I have IN Him, stored in heaven, IN Christ, and waiting to be revealed! For now, I have the 'earnest guarantee' I have His Spirit living in me reminding me I belong to Him! Because IN Adam, I was an objective participant in his sin (not subjectively of course), I suffered the curse, but IN Christ, the Second Man/Last Adam that has all been addressed and I am IN Christ by God's Act and Christ has 'been made my wisdom from God, my righteousness, my sanctification, and my redemption' all 3 phases are IN Christ! :-)

I rebuke these false teachings in the name of Jesus Christ.
Please read Galatians for yourself. Without this step by step explanation. It is not a difficult book to understand and it explains itself without this narrative. They have to break up the reading in order to lead anyone to these false conclusions. Just read the bible. It needs no explanation. It only needs interpreters to ensure you reach the same conclusions.
When it speaks of casting out Hagar ask yourself what the BIBLE says that means. Please just read it without a voice in your ear. Paul is crying out for them and for you to understand.
Study the covenants of God. Old Testament literally is Old Covenant and New Testament is New Covenant. Jesus speaks of it at the last supper. This is the new covenant....Matthew 26:28. Dig deep and understand I pray for each of you. I pray teachers of a false gospel will be anathema in agreement with Paul. May the words of false teachers fall flat. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
David Wilkerson, author of The Cross and the Switchblade has a book on this. Please read.
