    Recovering position can be done on both the sides either left or right provided which side the first aider is standing
    If the first aider is in left side of the casualty then turn the patient on left side similarly right

      Unless the person is pregnant in which case you need to leave them on their left side, so as a rule given the injures allow it, lean them on their left side.

    • @lucysteele

But if you are English on the age 5 to like, i dont know, 16 maybe, you can do St John, an learn these life skills. It is so helpful. Im very young, but they teach so well that both 10 years old 5 year old cannunderstand. The secondary students go to Cadets, and then there is Leaders. Also don't move them unless you are sure they is no Neck, spinal, or head injury. Moving them with a broken back can cause the discs to move and leave them permanently paralyzed. If you saw the accident you should know, if not then ask around or if the casualty is conscious ask them.

      you can , I'm currently learning first aid , and if the ''victim'' has a brouse on his left side of the head , you turn them the opposite side , you bring the head upwards so that they don't swallow their tongue , also instead of waiting for their response , you should check their pulse every 1-2 minutes , because he might have pulse , but is unconscious.

      if there's a severe neck injury that could risk a fracture you do not move the patient at all. just call 999 and let the professionals do their jobs.

    • @brad_8711
      @brad_8711 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If a patient is unresponsive, their muscles relax, including the tongue. This could fall back and block the airway, the recovery position is there to protect the airway as this is the number 1 priority. If you are at all worried, the call handler will advise you when you ring 999.

    Shouldnt you first go trough your protocol ABCDE before considering this, because it is much more difficult to do that in a good way if the person is on the side in stead of on the back.
    When the person starts to vomit,bleed from mouth then you put the person on the recovery position and when it stops vomiting then you can return to the normal position and continue your survey.
    Or if you have to leave the patient because you want to call for help, then you cal also use the recovery position.
    If you are with 2 person then you can always use the chinlift or jaw thrust there is no reason to put the patient on recovery position UNLESS it starts vomiting.. Then you can temporary put the patient in the recovery position to safe the airway and when the danger is gone put again on the back and maintain jawthrust/chin lift.

    • @sweeperboy
      @sweeperboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      To be fair to him, he said at the beginning "*if you have done your primary survey* ...they should be placed into the Recovery Position to maintain their airway".

    • @decentlysmartforanidiot8284
      @decentlysmartforanidiot8284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest putting someone in this position after doing a full survey and sweep of the surrounding area to make sure nothing dangerous like rocks or glass is on the ground. Then if there are other people, assign jobs, such as calling the emergency services if they don't seem to be breathing perform CPR if you are certified, if not then find your nearest AED. there is usually one in public places like supermarkets and shopping centres. Then if their breathing is regular and normal, you place them in the recovery position and wait for help. Never get off the line with the dispatcher until the ambulance arrives, if there are any complications they will tell you what to do. never move a patient if there is a risk of spinal, neck or head injury. If you didn't witness what happened, ask around if you can to find out.

    Is the person in the recovery position not necessarily supposed to feel comfortable? Because it doesnt look like a very comfortable position.

      The way they have done it not feel comfortable at all and is terrible for someone with a potential spinal injury. Easier and safer ways to do it

      I've been placed in the recovery position and it's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but when done correctly it can save lives. A little temporary discomfort is better than death or permanent injury.

    That is not correct, I am trained in emergency firstaid, cpr and aed, and you are supposed to put there hand on their neck to help support the neck to prevent further injury
