  • Whether you’ve got access to an ESPP (Employee Stock Purchase Program) at work and aren’t sure if it’s worth your time, or your new offer includes compensation via RSUs and ISOs, this week is dedicated to you. Strap in for a ride through Jargonarnia.
This week, I welcomed James Conole and Scott Frank-hosts of Real Personal Finance and holders of the prestigious CFP and CFA designations-to the show to help me break down this complicated world.
They had some excellent tips that you won’t want to miss. For example, pretend your RSUs are cash-would you use a cash bonus to buy company stock? If not, sell ’em.

Great episode! Really liked how you had James & Scott interject really helpful insights. And thank you for clarifying up front the difference between RSUs and RSAs. I'd love it if you invested in a human that understands what you're talking about to do your closed captioning, though. It's quite unacceptable in its current format.

Thank you for the kind feedback and constructive thoughts, KC! We're looking into a better closed captioning service as we speak, so I appreciate you sharing your feedback. -Katie

Can you post the links to those RSU diatribe blogs mentioned?

It's not about RSUs specifically, but this is my general concern about employee stock compensation: moneywithkatie.com/blog/the-risks-of-employee-stock-purchase-programs. I hope this helps!

Let's say I have RSUs; they vest and I don't sell right away; then the stock price goes up. Does compound interest kick in or no?

My ESOP with GTE which became Bell Atlantic which became Verizon. I was screwed by the new owner Broadcom when my employer Mobilink Telecom acquired for cash---my stock options expired one year later not the ten years originally issued to me by Mobilink. The new owners were scandalous in the news years later.

Do I even sell my RSUs when stock price drops 50% compared to the value at the same I signed the contract. 😢😢😢
