  • Sifu Lenny Aaron performing the the Wu Style fast (round) form (太極貫串) as taught to him by Grandmaster Leung Shum who learned Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan from his godfather Ng Wai Nung.
Very different than most Wu Styles that you've seen. Some people call this the round form.
This was shot in the mid 90s so I hope I have improved since then. The music was added in the 1940s and has been a part of the form ever since.

This form is also full of applications...approximately 7 applications per named movement of 108.

Sifu always referred to this as the "Fast Form," although the Chinese characters mean "connected or linking form."It is not a simplified form, but consists of 108 techniques performed in a continuous manner, as opposed to the Slow Form or " frame" (jia zi) where the techniques are broken down into very precise movements.

We are from the same lineage. Ying Jin Pai Association Sifu Walth has been my instructor. Your Round Form is nearly flawless. Loved your Kicking technique and transition. Loved your insideout foot movement emphasis. Your sword form must be awesome.

Sifu's form was taught to him by his godfather and is a combination of the northern Wu style of Wang Mao Zhai and the Shanghai style of Wu Jianquan with some modifications. The performance above is a beautiful rendition.

Grandmaster Leung Shum is world renowned and this is his student. And I must say, it's very beautiful.

Slightly different from the competition form, but still, the transitions were beautiful. The transitions from Jade Lady are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
It's sort of the competition form, with some real beauty added in,

This fast form is totally different from the fast form taught by grand master Ma Yueh Liang. His form has "Fa Jing" and high kicking and fast punches.

Sifu always referred to this as the "fast form,"but the Chinese characters literally mean linking or connected fist. This is in contrast to the " slow" form or "frame" in which the postures are performed in a non-connected manner. It is in no way a simplified form, but contains 108 postures performed in a non-stop manner.

Thank you for the clearification. when I did see fast form my mind though Fast set which was wujian quans fast set does not look like this form. the title should say linking not fast though because of this I was confused. I think my sifu called this form the short simplified which can be called short fast set in other places I'm not saying that your wrong its just I needed clearification. Peace.

Similar in many ways to the WU style I practice, but still vastly different in other ways.

I think tai chi isn't meant for the high kicking and fast punching. When you do pushing hands is when that should come into play. But if tai chi were to speed up, i think it takes away from the relaxing and breathing and concentrating exercises born from it.

it almost seems to me like this is wu style in some way "yangified", in that the wu style i practise is similar in general sequence but much tighter, smaller circles than seen in this clip

@adasdful In my opinion, without a good foundation and understanding of Tai Chi principles, I don't believe you could learn it by yourself. I believe it is too difficult to pick up the details from a video and a lot of Tai Chi is in the details. I'd be afraid you would pick up too many bad habits which are hard to lose later. Sorry, it's just my opinion.
