Mine is still "en route". My buddy and I are playing this cooperatively. He served, so I was somewhat surprised when he said he wanted to play. I made sure to ask what, if any, trigger situations to avoid. The good news is the game could be played solitaire, and then you could vary the "immersion" to avoid any triggers you might want to avoid. I played a ton of this game, 1st, 2nd and 2.2. Played it with lots of people during the tail end of the Cold War and through the 90s. I think V2 was my favorite, though I can appreciate this new version as that is what we are playing with right now.
I can see T:2000 easily being changed into modern day settings of a different nature. Such as alien invasion, undead apocalypse, or a Red Dawn situation (as in the movie). I've also seen people put up mods for things like sci-fi isolated frontier planet conflict along with the aforementioned. Creating an appropriate random encounters table is probably the most work (or conversion) required as much of the ground equipment can be renamed in the case of near-futuristic stuff.
