    Couple of things
    1. Fun Fact on Bernie Brewer, at the old County Stadium he slid out of a keg into a giant Beer stein. This was scrapped as it encouraged drinking.
    2. Citi Field, my home ground takes from a lot of inspiration from ebbets field as the prior owners the wilpons were huge Brooklyn Dodger fans originally. This was to the point of inviting Brooklyn greats to camp and having a Jackie Robinson Rotunda in the entrance of Citi field. The Mets can do this as they have embraced the roots of being NY's national league team and made a huge effort to court both the orphaned NY Giants and Brooklyn Dodger fans. This includes using Dodger Blue and Giant orange, as well as script font like the Dodgers and the Giant's NY monogram.
    3. On the sinking of the fields, it's usually to make it fit better with the surroundings.
    4. The keyhole thing was a gimmick when the DBacks brought it back as it hadn't really existed in the prior 30-40 years.
    5. Dodger Stadium is really ahead of it's time. Angel stadium was designed as a smaller version of it. When the angels played there it was called Chavez Ravine.
    6. Global life Field looks like a Grill.
    7. Artificial Turf is bad especially for baseball.

When the Tigers built Comerica Park, they wanted to include some old-time baseball features, so that's where the strip between the mound and the plate came about. The green seats are a homage to Tiger Stadium, where the seats were green before a late 1970s renovation changed the seats to blue and orange, the Tigers' colours.
There have been minor improvements over the years, the most notable one being to move the left and left-centre outfield fence in. The Tigers then moved their bullpens to the no-mans land created by the fence move, and added seats to the former bullpen location in right field.

  • @ShawnieMac
    @ShawnieMac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +52

Regarding Coors Field...most of the upper deck in right-field was removed in 2014, and its place is a "rooftop bar" and several viewing areas to the field. As a result, the seating capacity went down from 50,400 to just around 46,900 seats, although standing-room crowds would allow up to 50,100 people.

TROP TRIVIA TIME: The reason why Tropicana Field was already 8 years old for the Rays first season is because it was originally built to attract an existing MLB team to move to Florida. The San Francisco Giants were in talks of moving, and so were the Chicago White Sox. My dad even had a Florida White Sox shirt when it looked like the deal was done. Those deals all fell through and eventually the MLB gave an expansion team to Miami instead, so they were the Florida Marlins due to being the only team in Florida. The Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team also played at Tropicana for a few seasons, it has hosted NCAA Final Four college basketball games, and it can be converted to a football field to host high school football and college bowl games, as well as the Florida High School Marching Band Finals competition. Last tidbit: Wade Boggs was the first MLB player to hit a home run for his 3,000th hit, and it was at the Trop! The seats where the ball landed are yellow instead of blue, and have commemorative plaques on them.

In the late 90s when the Minnesota Twins were first pushing for a new stadium, they had a retractable roof design, that looked like a warehouse, that they wanted built down by the Mississippi river. When they designed Target field, the roof was ditched - a good choice - and moved away from the river to a smaller footprint.
Target field is a great improvement over the Metrodome, but putting it by the river would have been better. They could have had more room outside the stadium itself, with a nice river walk.
I don't think the land was available anymore once Target field came around.

I understand that one of the first baseball stadia to use artificial grass was the Astros, and that it was named Astroturf for that reason.
Some time after it was used on some other fields players started having issues with knees and ankles which was attributed to the harder surface (the grass was underlaid). Some players at the time had contract clauses specifying no artificial grass.
Persons who might remember the old Parry Field in Perth Western Australia might recall the issues there with artificial turf.
As with Yankee Stadium, when the replacement Comiskey Park was constructed some of the long standing fans were invited to help with bringing over some of the old infield to the new Park. The scoreboard thet lights up was copied over to the new Park.
One of the "fascinating" fields I once visited was Candlestick Park SF which had dual configurations, Giants and 49ers. At the time I was there Giants had signed Barry Bonds and they were building an additional section in leftfield for his "admirers".

Oh finally, I have found a compatriot. I despise naming rights and go out of my way to NOT buy their products/services whenever possible. This goes for not only baseball joints (I stopped caring about the Mets after the 1994 strike, so it's not like I'll be paying to see a game at the joint in Queens), but also title names (see college bowl games and their johns' names). Why do I feel this way, you all might be asking? Well, to me, it's like Groucho said (or is at least thought to have said) and I am paraphrasing the thought: do I really want to buy something because a company felt the best way to convince me theirs is the best was to spend $400,000,000 over 20 years to desecrate a stadium with their name? And, yes, my friends and family already think I'm meshuga.

The Rays need a new stadium that's actually in Tampa. The Trop was outdated opening day 1998. They've made it semi tolerable but it's not enough. The one good thing about it is that it's inside (and that you can pet sting rays in the outfield). But it's in a terrible location and it feels like you're watching a game in a ware house.

I remember the Royals/Yankees games from back them. Brett with the pine tar home rum. Chambliss hitting a walk off HR to win the series for NY. My family and I were driving cross country on vacation to Colorado and saw Kaffman from our car as we drove out West. For example, Rogers Stadium (formerly the Toronto SkyDome) not only held MLB and Toronto Argonaut CFL games, they also hosted the NBA's Raptors as their first venue. And for a while, Tropicana Field was the home venue of the Tampa Bay Lightning - the current Stanley Cup champions. As in ice hockey.

The main reason why they made the move was because the city of Atlanta never lived up to it's word after the Olympics on making the area around Turner Field better. It got worse.
