My roommate & I rode this nightmare (he was in a wheelchair) the damn ride broke down and we were escorted out-him rolling through the rest of the attraction and we got to see the rest of the ride with the lights on and the Cast member would point out the little details that went into this ride. It was kind of cool, yet very disturbing at the same time. Cher looked like a tired old street walker, Melissa Joan Hart did the voice for the head in the crystal ball. Monsters INC is a improvement.
This was probably the only truely terrible ride at Disneyland resort. Disney usually gets it right with its rides. This ride might have been ok at Universal Studios in 1995, but not DCA in 2001.

So they thought about cloning the Great Movie Ride or two other options but the budget would not allow for any of the three. The Madam Leota reference in 7:22 is funny though it would make me wish I was riding that instead XD Over all, this feels like it should be in Universal Studios. Not a Disney park. Everything in California Adventure rides that was base in California was all gone The SuperStar Limo a trip celebrity to Hollywood. Maliboomer which based from a City name Malibu. The CALIFORNIA huge sign in Entrance area of the park is gone also. The huge Orange attraction near place of California Screamin were gone also and it was base from Orange County. The California Screamin is only left. Now Disney California Adventure is not a California theme park anymore but i still love the DCA and Disneyland.

Buena Vista Street is based on Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s, Tower of Terror is based on Hollywood hotels and there's a real hotel called the Hollywood Tower Hotel in Hollywood, Cars Land is modeled after Route 66, Condor Flatts is a desert airfield based on 29 palms and Miramar in CA, Paradise pier is based on the piers in CA. so ya its very much california themed

They're just trying to bring in more Disney culture, since it is a Disney park. But now, it's styled more in a retro/vintage version of California (from when Walt first arrived in the California). There's some bonuses and some negatives.
I never been on this because it was closed when I saw it. Monster's Inc ride is the same thing as this! Same track and layout! Only thing they changed was put Monster inc characters and layout!

I disagee. DCA was originally themed to the pop culture and offered a "hip" look onto California. The new themes are romantic and idealistic. DCA now has a "vintage" feel to it. So either way, this ride wouldn't have lasted. Unless they redid the attraction entirely to make it look less like the Tracey Ullman Show and more realistic and calm, maybe it could have stood for awhile. But remember although some rides that aren't properly themed still last, this was only Phase I of the DCA expansion.
@TaylorHound well the thing that sucks about Rocket Rods is that it could've been incredible. It was built on the damn People Mover track so it couldn't go fast around the turns which ended up messing up the tires and causing all these technical difficulties. WHile this crap never had a chance at being a good ride haha. That's jsut my opinion though, and I was a little kid when I last rode it
Have you ever been to DCA? If you haven't, you really can't come to the conclusion that if this ride sucked, the entire park sucks. California Screamin' and Soarin Over California are two of Disney's greatest rides. So much so that they took Soarin Over California to Epcot in Orlando. Yes, the park may not have ben very good, that's why they're completely re-doing it over the next four years. DCA was made too focused on California, so the new expansions should help diversify it more.
I think a good idea was there, but it just got messed up in the process. That dude on the screen is annoying. They should have just did stars with what they did. Have them talking to you instead of being so darn lame. Have the cars stop while they talk to you or something. An example would be Jim Carrey. He was in the movie Mask. Have him (better looking because those animatronics stink) talk about the mask.
This ride was "closed for refurbishment" not long after DCA opened. It was basically a long wait, followed by grotesque hand puppets and cardboard-cutout ads for the current ABC-TV primetime lineup :p. Really, really horrible, lol. The new Monsters Inc. ride that's replaced it is much better (and a shorter wait).
i remember getting on this ride and being all excited to go on...and then it broke down...i heard it broke down many times thats probably why they closed it and now looking back it was a ride that was a stupid move to put in. it doesn't even have to do with disney!lol

I don't think that at all, if I made it sound that way then I apologize. I personally love the way DCA just the way it is. But at the same time, I'm always open to any new ideas from Disney, the only problem I have with the changes are that the park will no longer fit the name of DCA.

I like DCA, I think it's a fun park but significantly dwarfed by it's world famous next door neighbor. However, this ride is as boring, cheap looking, and hastily put together as its predecessor, Monsters Inc.

Not only does it look like a beefed-up cardboard ride, the subject matter is, just like Tommorowland, something that would need to be updated constantly. I rode this attraction when California Adventure opened. It was so tacky! It was a typical Fantasyland dark ride that had issues. I felt kind of sorry for the Imagineers that made it though, they did all that for unpopularity.

Superstar Limo might have worked if the ride covered the Golden Age of Hollywood and included classic stars like Gable, Bogart, Astair, Cary Grant, Hepburn, etc..Those stars would have stood the test of time and never become dated......But obviously the budget was so cheap Disney couldn't afford to pay those actors estates so they settled for C listers that had Disney contracts at the time.

And yes, for onsters all they did was replace the sets. The building structure and line structure was completely untouched.

Not only does it look like a beefed-up cardboard ride, the subject matter is, just like Tommorowland, something that would need to be updated constantly. Most of the guest stars in this attraction had lost their celebrity status before the attraction even opened.
Silly Disney. Give me more trackless dark rides (like Pooh at Tokyo) and I forgive you.

I rode this attraction when California Adventure opened. It was so tacky! It was a typical Fantasyland dark ride that had issues. I felt kind of sorry for the Imagineers that made it though, they did all that for unpopularity.
That ride really sucked. I remember riding that the first time and my jaw dropped at it's epic amount of fail.
The Monsters Inc. ride is pretty much exactly the same but they just repainted it.
This ride is now Monsters Inc. ride now right? Cause it seems like it the way the ride is going looks similar O_o
I Know We All Californians Think its stupid and stereotypical but i bet you Mr. and Ms. Tourist From Virginia or Idaho Think its just the bees knees learning about the "cool" people :)
They should have kept that Joan Rivers monstrosity in the Monsters, Inc ride....nah that be to horrifying.

That ride looked disastrous. It wasn't even slightly amusing like It's a Small World. Very forgettable.
i loved how horrendously bad this ride was! lol, it was the best after a couple drinks at downtown disney!
where did u hear that? It's one of those rides that nobody misses. And you cant have a ride (Monsters Inc.) for a couple of years and then make a new one!!
I bet it's the same guy who also suggested, "The Tiki Room Under New Management". Who IS this guy?!

@gr13340 This is a now DEFUNCTED ride. It was replaced by a much better ride called Monsters Inc: Mike And Sulley To The Rescue.

monsters inc was my least favourite ride but i think i like it better compared to this :)
This feels too cartoony for me but it's 100000000000000000 times better then Monsters Inc
friendly. I've been to the new park in June, and the remodeled ride sucked BALLS compared to Nights in White Satin!!
Superstar Limo might have worked if the ride covered the Golden Age of Hollywood and included classic stars like Gable, Bogart, Astair, Cary Grant, Hepburn, etc..Those stars would have stood the test of time and never become dated......But obviously the budget was so cheap Disney couldn't afford to pay those actors estates so they settled for C listers that had Disney contracts at the time.
I loved this ride! But i see now that the celebrities were a little outdated for kids =/

No! The ride has been Monsters Inc Mike and Sully to the Rescue since 2006.
