Francis Matthews. He was a lovely, gentlemanly genius. What a narrator too. Fabulous actor. So much missed.

My Dad used lots of Eric's jokes. He used to do the "I'm going" gag and we thought it was hilarious as kids. We played Bring Me Sunshine at his funeral. Many happy memories thanks to Eric and Ernie! ❤

His Carry Grant was perfect. I didn't realise he was Captain Scarlet until reading the comments, though I was aware of how spot on a Grant impression that voice was. When they brought it back they should have gone for an impression again. It was never a direct reference or an inside joke, it's just a great voice.

Francis was a fabulous actor, he was very much in the cary grant mould! By this time, he had already appeared with eric and Ernie twice.

francis matthews was truly one of my favourite of the guest's on the show simply because he had the best comic timing of any guest, don't know how he was this good.

1:30 - "Expect a cut anytime John" - this was a comment directed by Eric to their producer up in the production gallery Johnny Ammonds who remained with them until the mid 1970s, and would return to producer their four series for Thames Television from 1980.

Francis went to the same school as me (Christ the King) - I remember when he was introduced on a return visit by our headmistress, Sister Cecilia, for a turn.

You know the bit where Ern pulls Francis Matthews through the curtains, thinking he's Eric? Either little Ern was as strong as an Oxo cube... or Francis Matthews was very light!
I really love the warm and funny interraction between these three!

      I don't think he does.
It's not difficult for 'er' to sound like 'e' (possibly his own presumably Yorkshire accent coming through), or for 'n' to sound a bit like 'd' (with some nasal congestion, either a cold or a general condition).

This was from the first episode of the sixth series on BBC One, originally aired 7.25pm on Sunday 19th September 1971. The episode was actually proposed to air on Halloween night, Sunday 31st October 1971, but the BBC decided to make it the first episode of the new series. Tom Jones episode was decided to air on Halloween night, which is a shame, as this horror spoof would have suited Halloween night.

Watching the play i was wondering if they got inspired by Vincent Price's haunted house movies. now hearing them mention Vincent and Boris at 3:30 i know they did.

Francis Matthews was better than Roger Moore or David Niven but unfairly never achieved their fame.
