- Beatles and butterflies, oh my! ‘Doctor Who’ is back, babes, and we’re cautiously optimistic about it. The first two episodes of the new season, ‘Space Babies’ and ‘The Devil’s Chord,’ show off the range of the show for newbies, but still manage to intrigue, please and irritate the old folks all at once. Join us as we reveal what RTD has to say about all that winking - and about the Susan reference! Bum notes not included.

It's a shame Space Babies couldn't have been a Matt Smith episode. We could've gotten a line with him saying "I speak baby" and expecting them to speak like babies then being surprised to find out that no, they speak like adults after all.
That would have been amazing. I wouldn't have minded doing the joke with Gatwa
A Stormageddon Dark Lord of all reference was sorely missed.
i felt like maestro was appropriately classic-who coded.
In what way?
@@StevenErnest theatrical, silly, kinda dumb
@@Radignostic Also classic had alot of cosmic god like villains like the toymaker
Reminded me of the Carnival from Torchwood as well.
also, did yall catch the star trek shared canon confirmation?
Reminded me of a similar comment about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in Tennant's first episode.
I caught it instantly and have a hankering to reread the crossover comic.
I figured he was saying they'd have to go back and watch them making the original series or something. The same way they went to see The Beatles.
Would be pretty fun if they go to see them making the original show and they have the actors from Star Trek Strange New Worlds as Shatner, Nemoy, etc.
Depends entirely whether the bbc and disney can make a deal with Paramount to let them do it.
Still, if they did somehow travel to the Trekverse for an episode, i do think Strange New Worlds is the show to cross over with. It's got a pretty similar tone.
Yes! Can't wait for the Strange New Worlds crossover 😄 And maybe that Matt Smith comic is now canon...
Very interesting take on the Season 2 companion being Susan!
As long as they bring back Carole Ann Ford to regenerate into her, we're good with it!
Not a huge fan of Space Babies, but really enjoyed Devils Cord, especially as a fan of Jinx Monsoon. ^^ Regarding the "boost" of the Spaceship, in my headcanon, it is a silly little message from RTD in the vein of: "I started with burping trashcans and not even Disney can stop me from bringing farting spaceships!"
Agreed. It may have been cringe, but it's also very RTD
Could ruby be river doctor daughter or ruby might be Susan biological granddaughter?
Season 40 😉 such good episodes. Space babies was a good introduction to the Disney+ series. The devils chord was interesting indeed. Not sure how I feel about the twist at the end.
The twist fit the episode perfectly. Music coming back to a world that had lost it.... how else would it happen? :)
The unrelenting jolliness of it all does not appeal to me. I'm hoping that subsequent episodes NOT written by RTD will return to a tone with less cheesy 'pizzazz' than these.
Tom Baker's Doctor broke the 4th Wall by talking to the audience in 'The Face of Evil' so this isn't the first time something like this has happened.
Also Capaldi in the intro to Before the Flood, we're he gives a 2 minute monologue directly to camera
This was kind of just terrible. Russel T. Davies thinks his audience are idiots. He's about as subtle as a ten minuite song and dance number that ends in a car crash. If this is the only adventure the Doctor will ever have with The Beatles then it ends as a missed opportunity. And I despise the meta humor. The less said about space babies and space boogers the better. I think its literally because RTD thinks Americans and therefore Disney are dumb and it feels insulting.
As Pull to Open said, there better be a good payoff to all of this meta stuff
Interesting few erpisodes to say the least
It’s truly awful, good cast ,good acting, terrible stories and musical numbers,Disnification!
lmao as if there was no such episodes before
I can see why Disney played two episodes because the first one was shite!!! Giving Orphan 55 a run for its money. All that triumphant incidental music, constantly playing and them joyously talking non stop. “oh it’s so much fun babes.” 🤮
The Devil’s Cord was really enjoyable, the piano scene was beautiful … the story was funny and I enjoyed it. Right up until that pushed me out of the episode dance/singing number at the end.
It was unnecessary and as the kids say “cringe” What I say as a crusty old GenX’r “load of old flaming Bollocks.”
However, totally rewatchable.
My theory Mrs Flood (who was also in Space Babies and seen onscreen as an employee protesting abandoning the ship) anyway Mrs Flood is Susan … and she’s annoyed as he never did “come back.”
Only joking about Orphan 55, it could never be beaten on the 💩 scale.
Just a note “Correction sir, that’s blown out’ of the airlock.
That Susan theory makes a lot of sense
Genuinely one of the worst Who episodes. It's as if it combines several of the worst episodes themes and tries them all at once. Bits of the sleep dust monster, fear her, and the slitheen fart humor.
My god. A seven minuite dance number with the Beatles and its THAT!? What a waste.
Disappointed in the spoiler-y thumbnail, the episodes hadnt even been out for 5 hours in the UK when this video sropped
Good feedback. Since it's our read, with no specifics, and might not be going anywhere, we thought it was OK. We'll be more careful in the future.
