  • Did you know that less than 6.5% of PAs identify as Hispanic or Latino?! The lack of Latinos in medicine is a frustrating reality. I hope this video offers a glimpse into my life as a first-generation Mexican American PA student, husband, and dog dad.
My goal with this channel is to increase the presence of our Latino and Hispanic providers and be a resource for all pre-PA/PA students! For a limited time, I am offering one-on-one personalized Zoom sessions to meet all of your pre-PA and PA student needs. You can sign up and view the affordable pricing using the Calendly link below. I look forward to meeting you.

Great channel. I am a medic from Sacramento & considering PA school. So great to see the positive experience you are having at school. UCD is definitely on my list as a school option.

Hi friend! Thank you very much for the support and comment.
I’m actually working on a video today about “things to consider when choosing between PA programs” that might be helpful as you build your list of programs! I should be dropping it on the channel this Friday.
If you ever have any questions about the process or application, I’m here to help. 🤝🏼

Love your approach. Currently an MA with a bachelors degree, i need a few more pre-requisites before being a competitive applicant. Keep up the good work.

That is a Samsung 32” curved CR50 monitor from Costco! And it’s connected using an Anker adapter. Amazon link below. Thanks for watching.

How long did it take for you to develop a flow that worked for you with working with Anki and going through lectures?

    • @themexicanpa

Great question. Before I started PA school, I read “Making it Stick” and thankfully had an epiphany that my old study habits were not going to work-especially with the rapid speed and volume of content that is covered in PA school.
I went onto TH-cam and searched up “how to study in Med school.” This is how I was introduced to Anki. During the first quarter I really put in the effort to learn how to use Anki…specifically the “cloze deletion” and “image occlusion” tools which allows you to efficiently make “fill in the blank” flash cards using text or images. As I got more comfortable with the software I started to implement keyboard shortcuts cuts like “ctrl+shift+4” is my shortcut to quickly screenshot and save an image to my clipboard. I then hit another key and automatically upload and open it within Anki for me to edit. Using this method I slowly got faster and that flow is now (thankfully) muscle memory for me. I’ll make sure to address this in my upcoming “how I study” video! 👨🏻‍⚕️✊🏼
TLDR: Anki + keyboard shortcuts + around 5 weeks to make it muscle memory.

@@themexicanpa Thanks for your thorough response, primo! I know transitioning back into school will be something to be cognizant of, especially the huge volume of content and fast pace. I’m definitely gonna try to master these skills before going into PA school. Might start using it to study for my anatomy and physiology courses. Looking forward to next videos where you break down those skills. 😊
