The crew from the Columbines School of Botanical Studies joined me on The Herbalist Hour and this is a clip from that show.
The crew consists of Howie Brounstein, Leah Kays, Alex Payne and Steven Yeager.
In this clip I ask them about the benefits of learning how to use a dichotomous key.

I'm new to botany. I have bought an American book called Botany in a Day by Thomas J Elpel
    Is this based on keying?

To my knowledge, the book is a basis that could you could use to build on to get comfortable keying - but it is not a key nor does it use a lot of complex botanical language.
You'll learn families and groupings of plants, which will help you identify and begin to learn plant anatomy and botanical language. I think it's a really amazing place to start; I'm about to read it as well!
Anything that will get you more familiar with features of plants and some botanical terms will help you key out when you decide to learn it - but it is very intimidating to start - it involves a big, complicated new language.
