    I used the Sally Hansen insta-dri nail polishes for stamping when I first started using stamps. But, I agree with you that once you use stamping polishes, you’ll never go back haha.

    I do the 2nd method - color in the design on the stamper... let it fully dry... put a coat of clear top coat on the nail, and stamp when it is almost dry -just tacky. i will also stamp onto several different stampers, using several colors, and sometimes let them dry overnight in a drawer, so theyre ready to slap on the next day. :) so fun!

    The first advanced stamping design was actually so cute!!! Even if it wasn't perfect I think the idea of it with the negative space and stamping on a line is really cool! My fav has to be the shell one, Diamond Rain is probably the prettiest thing I've ever seen 😍😍😍

    Also, if you put nail polish on the plate in one direction you'll get crisper and less bubbly image if you scrape in a different direction. Maybe you'll try it out! Cheers!

    When placing any type of decal - whether it be made from a stamp, a water slider, or a sticker - I like to use my clear Maniology Monocle stamper for easy placement. You just plop the decal down (back side up facing you) on top of the stamper head, and then stamp it on your nails. It eliminates the fiddly bits of trying to get it straight! ;)

    When I do advanced stamping, I always color in the design and let that dry by itself on the stamper, but instead of putting smudge free top coat on the stamper, I paint my nail with the top coat, but don't let it dry all the way. When you stamp the design onto your nail when the top coat isn't dry fully, it will stick. It's much easier and much faster than putting top coat on the stamp, letting that dry, and then peeling it off!!

    • @sharipolk7204
      @sharipolk7204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was going to say the same thing. Much easier to stamp directly onto the nail after painting on the stamp, than it is to make a decal. I love all these designs though. You always do a beautiful job and I love your videos!

    • @sharipolk7204
      @sharipolk7204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Bahaha! I paused the video after the first advanced (or reversed) stamping nail and then saw you use the peel off base on the next one. Maniology also has a "sticky base coat" for that and the Orly Bonder works great too! :-)

    • @TikkaHorse
      @TikkaHorse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I often use one of those silicone mats to do stamp art on and make decals (stamp onto a layer of topcoat to make it peelable). Basically, exactly what you do, but I have chronic pain which makes holding the stamper difficult so doing it on the mat is easier on me. I'll make all the decals I need, then apply then all at the same time to help prevent smudging too.

    • @nicolelavigne1700

      It's also useful sometimes with regular stamping. I was stamping mermaid scales on my nails and the lines were so thin they didn't want to stick properly until I applied a layer of a sticky base coat on my nails over my base colour, then they stamped like a charm.

    I was super keen on getting the nerdy nail plate because of the dice, but thanks to your closeups, i noticed how inaccurate the d4 (the pyramid shaped one) is, and that the d20 looked like it rolled a 2 (which unless i was doing naddpod themed nails, would be a lame thing). thanks for saving me a little money!

    When revere stamping you can use a sticky base coat if you don't have a peel off base coat but you can also still stamp it on your nails without the extra step of another coat is polish place the stamp on your nails when your polish is still tacky just don't press hard

  • @mystiqueivy
    @mystiqueivy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was so much fun Kells, ty. Im very surprised youre "not too good" at advanced nail stamping bc i would have thought you have ALL nail art techniques down haha! I suck at stamping in general, i feel that if i scrape too many times it doesnt pick up the polish well, but i see you scrape more than once or just once and you get amazing results either way. Then again, you are using stamping NP whereas im using regular so im sure that has tons to do with it haha (i know the quality of the stamping plate and stamper have to do with it too haha). Stamping is so complicated imo! Maybe thats why ive never been into it... Also bc i feel its like a "cop out" or an easy way out haha i know sometimes its useful, but i hate channels that ONLY do stamping bc i feel thats not "actual nail art" and dont feel i learn anything from it. As hard as stamping is TO ME haha its supposed to be pretty "simple" so i feel i prefer the challenge of attempting to do everything by hand even if it can be frustrating at times and take way longer and the end result is not always good haha at least i feel proud and accomplished for trying sth new and different and potentially hard and complicated haha!
    That being said, Id love to see more stamping techniques or compilations in your channel for sure! You explain things so well and i def always feel i learn tons from you :) maybe stamping will finally grow on me the more i watch you do it haha

      @KelliMarissa  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha noo definitely not an expert on all techniques, but I do love learning along with you guys and getting better at it together! I understand that sentiment on stamping being almost a "cheat" but after trying a bunch, I feel like there's definitely an art to getting it right, and also doing the right color and design combinations! I'll convert ya too :P

    I’m excited to find this channel and looking forward to using stamps I’m hoarding and afraid to use. Question. I DIP. So with dip I have to either use gel (which I’m not a huge fan) or dip liquids. Buff activate and top coat, then stamp. IF I USE UNT, after my top coat will it peel off? My mani needs to last 2 weeks. So after My top coat I can buff before UNT if needed but then do I activate again before or after UNT and then after UNT do I do a base and maybe a clear dip powder coat, activate and top coat to seal it?

    • @KelliMarissa

      Acetone and nail polish remover are actually two different products! So if you're getting nail polish remover, it's diluted with other stuff. I always buy 100% acetone and it works like a dream - every brand performs the same so it works as long as you're getting pure acetone!

    I find Orly Bonder works just as good for as a sticky base for stamping. I found Unt can peel up even over polish with to much water exposure. Plus, the Orly dries way faster than Unt does! Maniology does sell a sticky base for stamping, but I haven't tied it. I also use Orly Bonder for flakes and glitter. It works really well! Edit: To expand, I find sandwiching Unt between polish doesn't really let it dry fully and so even hours later, it can still be squishy. Not a fan!

    When I'm doing advanced stamping or even working with my hand painted decals before I peel the image up I put a thin layer of either top coat or clear polish down on my nail so the image has something to stick to and the fresh polish also kind of "melts" the dry top coat helping it to stick better.

      Maniology has free starter kits where you pay like $7.95 for shipping and get 2 plates, Stamper and scraper, and 2 mini polishes. If you liked the last design she did, it’s from Rebel Yell. One of my favorite plates!

    Thank you! I just started doing nail stamping. Definitely going to try some of these techniques!

    Did you have any issue with the peel off base making the stamping peel off? I've only seen people doing that technique with a sticky base coat (like Orly Bonder), never a peel off base.
    Also, I was randomly wondering the other day if you could use gel polish for stamping to avoid the issue of it drying to quickly - do you know if it would work?

    I need a clear stamper. I have an old purple stamper from many years ago. Hard to line up nicely.

    Lol it was definitely game changing when I learned about using a sticky base on the nail for reverse stamping too, I just use the Orly bonder base coat because it also creates a sticky layer.
    Awesome video! I look forward to seeing you practice reverse stamping 😊

    Kelli, American Classics YELLOW STOPPER works likes a peel off base coat [though not its intended use]. That said, it also provides that "tacky" surface for advanced stamping. Great vid! Thanks for sharing!

    hey kelli! do you have any idea why my stamping sucks? whenever I do it, my designs are always patchy. help!!!

    • @KelliMarissa
      @KelliMarissa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Jenny, it’s definitely tricky to get started. My top tips are make sure your stamping plate isn’t cold, work quickly, and use stamping polishes because those are the easiest to work with!

    • @Mar10la
      @Mar10la 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It also depends on the quality of your stamping plate. I have some plates that pick up crappy polish perfect, and others that are patchy no matter which stamping polish or stamper I use. It's trial and error. And a lot of practice 😅

      I have moyou stamping plates and also moyou stamper. I also got a born pretty stamper too but yet to try it. Maybe I'm not applying enough pressure when I press on my nail. Does the scraper make a difference? I've heard metal ones aren't good but I have 2 plastic ones where one is quite solid and the other is a bit more flimsy. I've yet to try the flimsy scraper but it's so frustrating when it comes out patchy

      @katpanda27 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try scraping the plate as few times as possible and then use a light touch picking it up from the plate with the stamper. If you press too firmly on the plate it can create holes in the design. Best of luck 😊

    Good job but I have a couple of tips (that may have been said below, not sure) that I think you might find good to try. First one, put on your polish and let it dry. Then put on a coat of Orly Bonder base coat. It has a tacky finish to it so if you are doing advanced stamping and your image has dried on your stamper, it will transfer every time! The benefit of doing this versus a peel off base coat is just that, you don't have a peel off base coat in the middle of your nail art. Second tip, I know you said you like to just press onto the stamp image to pick it up but if you use a slight rolling motion (a light touch too), I believe your image will pick up better. Give it a try! Oh, and p.s., Maniology has a sticky stamping polish which looks remarkably similar to Orly Bonder but I haven't tried it. Maybe they will send you some for review! Thanks for another great video. Rose

    In all my stamping groups, what you’re calling “advanced stamping”, we always refer to it as “reverse stamping”. In reverse stamping, you need to put down a layer of either top coat or a sticky base coat on top of your mani, before laying down your decal or reverse stamped image. That’s why you had the issues you did of it not sticking. You also don’t need to peel the decal off the stamper when you do this, you simply stamp it on the tacky nail surface, as you would a normal stamp. Much easier!

    I really need to pick up some stamping products this looks like so much fun!! I had some years ago but they weren’t the best quality and the stamper wasn’t clear so I didn’t really have the best results 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I find that the Maniology top coat peels on me in a day if I don't wait until it dries and then cover it with another top coat. It's weird but I use it first over the stamped design, wait 2-3 minutes, and then go over the design again with another top coat to seal.

    Loved this! I finally tried stamping and it's awesome 😄. I've been missing out. My favorite design was the second one cause that is exactly what I want to do when I repaint my nails this weekend. I even got out my vantablack polish to test it out on my silicone mat 😆
