    Today I saw this video and weep because of this channel i had made my first steam boat in class 9th today iam 12th pass but loving from core to the science toy maker, ❤love to USA 🇺🇸 from India 🇮🇳.

    @TheCALkam Well, the title says it's part 2, which leaves the possibility that there might be more parts that show you how to make it. And it says it's an intro, as in the word introduction. You can skip it an go to the other parts at sciencetoymaker, linked in the text area.It was my opinion that there was a story that should be told to those who wanted background about the putt putt.

    fantastic ...when i was five years old..i had one. now...i am 44 years old.
    last year i built one pop pop boat after to see your videos in youtube!
    I from ARGENTINA...you can see my video about pop pop boats ...congratulations and thanks excuse me for my pour english

    You have to open up the top of the boat quite a bit. If it stays narrow and a triangle shape it will tip, as you discovered

    very cool i plan to make a giant pop pop boat for me and my family it should be 15 feet when im done tell me what you think

    Some information here is incorrect. It is NOT the flexing of the diaphragm that pumps the water in and out, actually the reverse happens. The repeated flash-boiling and condensing of the water ACTS ON the diaphragm. Some pop-pop boats don't even have a flexing diaphragm, they simply have a stiff chamber or even just a coil of copper pipe (with the coil they need a spirit burner). The only function of the diaphragm is to create the lovely sound.

    That's a boat by master craftsman Daryl Foster. I can't put URL links in text comments, but do a TH-cam search "part 2 canadian putt putt boats" and you'll be amazed at his work.

    Hey there.. Just found out about these boats in another video here on youtube.
    That really inspired me.
    And now I found ur great Videos here.
    Great Work dude! Keep it up!

    @sciencetoymaker Like instead of using epoxy to hold the tube in the engine hull, Just make the engine tighter and use on the two ends, just cut excessive aluminum out so that it's be able to fold back and hole the straws.
    (Since I can't find epoxy)

    Excellant Job on The Info. I am going to send this video to a few of my friends and see who can make a pop pop boat. Thanks for sharing.

    @boberto322 Hot glue can be used for some things but not the places that get very hot. It just melts and becomes soft again when heated.

    @LINDANETA1 Yes, very good building. I also liked the oscillating steam engines.

    @Naturepheonix Folding and crimping metal can create an airtight seal industrially, but making pressure-tight crimp seals with the pop pop engines is not possible, at least in my experience. Epoxy might not be called "epoxy." Look for any two-part glue that you have to mix equal parts. That will be epoxy, by whatever name.

    @lamoene I don't know, but search "PuttPutt4video's" channel on TH-cam. He is Daryl from Canada and he has made boats with more than 2 pipes, which are very fast.

  • @sciencetoymaker
    @sciencetoymaker  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a bit more complicated than that. Water is alternately expelled and then sucked in again through both straws in a repeating cycle. In one straw and out the other is just used to prime the engine with water.
    Slater

  • @sciencetoymaker
    @sciencetoymaker  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Naturepheonix Yes, it must be completely airtight. Even a pinhole leak will keep it from working.
    Slater

  • @sciencetoymaker
    @sciencetoymaker  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MrTree1997 It's a great question. Has anybody tried it? The boiling point of salt water is a little different than fresh water, and I would definitely rinse out the engine when finished because saltwater will corrode aluminum.

    @ijion956 For people who don't know what nichrome wire is, it's used for electrical resistance heating (think of the glowing orange wires in electric toasters). I think some French experimenters have already used electric heating elements to stabilize the heat as a constant when measuring engine efficiency. You can research more at Jean Yves' pages (including English pages) at eclecticspace dot net

    @finlayson101 I'm not able to put links here, but on the boat instructions page at sciencetoymakerDOTorg, just before the green letters about making a 3D hull from a milk carton, there is a link that addresses scaling up.

    @sciencetoymaker  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just did it from having taken some traditional engines apart. There is a Yahoo pop pop group where people have been making that kind of engine (and experimenting with many other designs).
    Slater

  • @sciencetoymaker
    @sciencetoymaker  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, I found that smaller engines to a point are more powerful. Now that you are experimenting, check out the archives of the international pop pop group. Lots of experimenting reported on there.

    @kris48267 Yup, particularly if you don't care if it works.There's an expression about "not reinventing the wheel". Sometimes it's wise to listen to others who have gone before you, make mistakes and worked out things so you don't have to.

    Can you use celotape for the can/ putt putt noise maker of instead of the epoxy glue?

  • @sciencetoymaker
    @sciencetoymaker  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BoilerRoom4 Well, as I said,I will go into more detail about how the cycle works in a video just about that. And I did mention the momentum of the column of water acting on the diaphragm as well, but yes, it is not the metal deforming from the heat and thereby pumping out the water. I do think the diaphragm has some springiness which adds more than sound (you don't need the hotter spirit burner).

    • @sciencetoymaker
      @sciencetoymaker  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've thought about it, but there are at least two physics principles that seem to make it impossible, although of course you can use a more traditional steam engine with a piston to power a car.
