    Paul McCartney's favorite joke. {man enters pub[ . Bartender; "Hey laddy, what can I get for ya", "1 pint" , "Aye, hey laddy, did ya notice the fence on the way out the road here" , patron replies "Aye, very straight and sturdy looking fence, I did notice that", " Yes, but ya know nobody calls me, Nigel, the fence builder, and did ya notice the roof here on the pub?" "Aye, very clean looking and strong looking roof, looked very technical" ---"Yes, it was but do people call me Nigel, the roof builder....no" ............"But get caught with one sheep........"

    I enjoy some ASMR sounds ... tapping or drumming fingers, whispering or talking softly, flipping pages, gentle sounds like that. It's kind of the same as listening to rain or the wind, a lovely white noise that relaxes me. That little animal eating at the end was so cute! I don't really enjoy listening to humans eat, though. Lol :)

    I have seen a show that had a segment where a drainage running under a road protecting the road from getting washed out. Was constantly being blocked up by beaver stopping the flow of water. They built cages around it and other things but the beaver kept building and blocking it. So they used a recording of water running in an area just a little ways away, and the beaver would go and build there instead.

    Hi NP, one interesting creature that takes the monogamous path are Blue Tongue Lizards, and particularly Shinglebacks, here in Australia. They only tend to spend a few weeks together each breeding seasons, and live alone most of the year.. but when the next breeding season starts, they will seek each other out again and get jiggy with it!! And they live up to 50 years.
    They are quite large lizards and they are plentiful in Australia. One of the sad things about them is they LOVE to sunbath on the road, so often get run over. A lot of people will stop their cars and pick the lizards up and carry them off the road to save them. It's sweet! But an often devastating thing to see is a blue tongue who has been run over, with its alive partner sitting next to it on the road, not wanting to leave it... heartbreaking! It happens often.
    Anyway, only just found your channel tonight, absolutely love the diversity of topics you cover and your insightful reactions. And the Julia Roberts smile! Thanks for putting these videos out.

    Hi No Protocol ! I have a great sports request for you to start exploring the unique old school boxing scene. The video is "George Foreman | The Most Powerful Boxer In History" by Rainy Day Boxing. George is regarded by many as the heaviest hitter in boxing history, surpassed perhaps only by Earnie Shavers. He has a great life story, about which lately a movie "Big George Foreman" has been made. Please respond if you see this.

    I think Casual Geographic has an Octopus episode. I read a book a while back called "Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness" by Peter Godfrey-Smith. He's a philosopher by trade and spent a lot of time talking to cephalopod researcher, and even repeatedly visiting cuttlefish colonies of the coast of Australia before writing the book. I found it to be an interesting and well written book.

    I have tinnitus in one ear, to keep my mind distracted I tend to play a background noises. I've started including ASMR videos. While I don't get the same feeling from it, I believe some people may experience frisson while listening to some auditory stimulus. I get it listening to live band bagpipe renditions of Amazing Grace, some other folks may get something similar from soft whispers, or some other sound.

    04:45 Homo Sapiens. All jokes about cheating and unfaithfulness aside, the reason we even have those thing as conceptions is because we're the only ape species that has pair bonding. That's the reason of institution of some form of marriage in basically all human cultures.
    And technically - for the most time - that monogamy probably worked well. Homo Sapiens as a species has circa 300 000 years, and for 95% of that time we lived in small groups, well below 100 people. Without facebook, instagram, and cellphones with fingerprints readers.

I came to this channel by accident, just clicked your WW2 reaction, and honestly you surprised me. I'm Polish, and - not trying to be rude here, but - I'm kinda used to seeing videos of (even seemingly intelligent and well educated) Americans, not knowing that much history that doesn't concern their own country. There are actually 2 film adaptations of The Talented Mr. Ripley. There's the 1999 Hollywood version, as well as a French film called Purple Noon from 1960, with one of my all time favourite actors, Alain Delon, as Tom Ripley. Claude Chabrol's Les biches (1968) is also an uncredited, loose adaptation of the story. My favourite version, in all honesty, is the Hollywood one. The book is good too.

    Swans, ducks, parrots, peacocks, actually very many birds. I suppose you could also make an argument for any hymenoptera (e.g. ants, wasps, bees) being monogamous. The same goes for termites, even more so, because many species of termites will have both the queen and the "king" stay together, whereas in hymenoptera the queen will live many times longer than the male.

    The little laugh at the end of the ravens and wolves story was quite charming! The only animal I could think of for monogamy was penguins... are they not? I can't remember for sure but I believe they are. As for ASMR, it's quite interesting, I think it's a bit of an acquired like, I never really understood until I found a performer who used the right triggers and who I enjoyed watching and turns out it can be very pleasing to the ears!

    • @xzonia1
      @xzonia1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I kept thinking penguins! during that segment. Lol. I think birds have like a 75% rate of monogamy among all the species, much higher than any another creature on earth, which is kind of weird considering the flying ones could hook up with others all over the place but still choose to remain faithful to just one.
