Here in Norway we have a lot of money saved up in our oil fund. If our Scandinavian brothers chipped in, we could make an offer for Hawaii! It's in our national interest to own some warm islands where we can chill during the cold winters.
@kristiankruse3964 Well, apparently it's the US that are into buying/selling islands, so it has to be some real estate under their control. We should probably stay away from the Bikini atolls though.
If a Greenlander has a serious accident and needs advanced surgery, an ambulance plane will be chartered for FREE, and he will be flown to Copenhagen, for FREE, and will have surgery and treatment for FREE, and will be flown back for FREE. That would never happen if Greenland were a part of USA.
As a Canadian, it’s heartwarming to be part of a conversation that includes Denmark. The same arguments you express in your essay can be said for Canada.
Canada and Greenland are not remotely comparable. Trudeau has made Canada “the world's first postnational state” so it only makes sense that such a state should be annexed by a nation.
Here's an idea: Let all of us nordic countries form an artic alliance. Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark. After all, we're much alike. Scotland could join too! And The Baltics! Cheers from Denmark.
I deployed to Afghanistan to Helmand with a contingent Danish soldiers based out of Camp Leatherneck. As friends and allies they fought with us and came to our aid after we called for their support as NATO, the only time Article 5 was exercised after 9/11. In our time of need they answered the call and came to our aid... and this is how we repay courage and friendship. As a retired veteran, this behavior and those who support it are NOT American. They are not part of my country and beneath the dignity and honor of the United States. Trump may be the next President and I support him to uphold the democratic process... but my allegiance is to the Constitution and America. Just because people take off the uniform does not mean we take off our honor. Trump's supporters need to tread carefully. He was NOT elected to start new wars against our friends. Also, thank you to Denmark and a salute to all the brave Danes who helped and fought with us Americans.
@@MROJPC It has been a honour in my case to serve as a Danish soldier together with the US in Kuwait after the first Gulf war. It is hard for us in Denmark to understand President elect Trumps hostile threads towards our Kingdom. We prefer to stand together with other free countrys and rekonise that we over the years have many US brothers and sisters like you. We can only hope sanity prevails and that the free democracys stop being a minority in the world.
They are very much American. They elected this insurrectionist criminal even after him taking part in several criminal conspiracies and actions, and associating himself with plenty of criminal cronies. Just making sure you understand how low a large part of your population has fallen.
I’ve got to be honest: having a Danish Navy officer working on strategic questions and answering that particular conundrum candidly is a wonderful and fairly unique ability of social media. There are other problems with social media, but that feature I really like.
He's actually very naive about the power politics dictating modern international relations. It find it bizarre how far you dismiss Trump - if he wants it he will take it because conflict between allies is a zero-sum game and Denmark knows the US is its primary security provider and that it is better the devil you know. I think it is very likely Denmark capitulates. It's just hilarious you're talking about what people want and that Greenland wants independence - it doesn't matter! Like, they have no leverage. Idealism and normative statements DO NOT mean anything...
As a US citizen, I get sick in the stomach to hear threats to our closest, loyal allies and friends. One thing to remember about Trump is he is a second generation real estate deal maker. One strategy that he uses in negotiations is that all the crazy demands and bluster scares the hell out of people & makes people accept a deal they would not have in the first place. Flatter & delay him. He doesn't have a long attention span.
The Americans have been waging a "trade war" against Europe for a long time. The entire main industry of the leading European countries has already moved to the USA. The attraction of unprecedented generosity in the form of cheap energy resources from Russia is over. It is Europe that will remain at the "broken trough"😂
Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland! Greenland is currently an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark. We are proud Danish citizens but our dream is full independence. We, most emphatically, DO NOT want to become another, abused, neglected overseas territory of the US. The idea that you can just send someone in here with a bunch of money and we’d sell our country, is ludicrous. All we have to do is to see how the US has, and is treating its indigenous populations in Alaska and in the continental US. We have no illusions about being treated any differently under US rule. Greenland has formally been a territory of Denmark since 1721, long before the U.S. was even a sovereign country. In 1979, Greenland got autonomy and a Home Rule government was elected. This was achieved, not through bloodshed and war but through peaceful negotiations. A situation pretty unique in a world where most colonized people have had to pay for any independence with their blood. The authority of the Government of Greenland, and its parliament, was further expanded in 2009. The Greenland government and parliament make unilateral decisions on almost all domestic issues. The members of the parliament are elected every four years through free and fully democratic elections. However, some areas are still determined by Denmark such as defense, foreign policy, citizenship, and the judiciary system. Denmark does not, however, enact or decide any laws in these areas that concern Greenland without consulting first with our own lawgivers. The ties between Greenland and Denmark go way beyond history, politics or money. There are many deep family ties. Many people in Greenland have a Danish ancestor or ancestors or Danish family members. Our society is modeled on the Scandinavian system of tax payed healthcare, education, social services etc. Currently Denmark subsidizes Greenland annually with the equivalent of around 600 million US dollars. To think that the US would ever willingly pay even a fraction of that to Greenland is insanely naive. The US has never paid as much as a penny in rent to Greenland for the land they have annexed/occupied for their military bases. The US already strategically controls Greenland, through their military base in the northern part of Greenland. There is no chance of the Russians or the Chinese coming in here with any military might. No, trump isn’t worried about the Russians or the Chinese coming to Greenland. That is an excuse. No, he wants full control so he can strip mine Greenland with impunity of any and all mineral wealth, raping her blind and leaving nothing but death, destruction and pollution in his wake. This is what his MAGA goons mean when they talk about “development”. We don’t want your system of government, we don’t want your model of society with its crazed gun culture, insane medical bills and costly education only for the rich. You have no freedoms that we don’t already have. Our society is not perfect, but yours is definitely not worthy of emulation. We can’t do much if the orange menace wants to act like Hitler and annex/occupy us. Our population is small and not heavily armed. But such an aggressive act towards a friendly, peaceful neighbor and ally, would certainly not win the US any new friends on the world stage. They would probably lose several of the ones they have now as other countries would justifiable fear a U.S. take over. Trump may think he’s joking or that it’s fun to threaten the sovereignty of other sovereign nations as he has done to Canada, Greenland, Panama and Mexico. But this kind of rhetoric is dangerous in a world as volatile as ours. To dismiss his comments is foolish, as he, like Hitler did, has plenty of followers who are ready and willing to carry out his wishes of a violent take over of territories not belonging to the US. The US under trump would gain far more through peaceful coexistence and trade…and as our leaders in Greenland have stated: We are open for business, but we are definitely not for sale and I`ll fight for my country so bring it on anyhow you like..
People of Greenland should understand that independence, real independence, only exists if a people has the military means to guarantee it. An "independent" Greenland would be colonized by the US or Russia, sooner or later, in any case. Thinking that a population of 50.000 can remain independent just because they want to be independent is naif. They can remain independent if no power allows other powers to put their hands over it. Failing that, Greenland will fall prey to some power. It's union that makes strength. If Greenland wants real autonomy, they should just tighten their ties with Denmark and the EU, rather than trying to sever them.
@@uffa00001 Yes, I agree and I think that most Greenlanders are aware of that.. As an independent country we should join EU.. Our laws are European and our mindset is European and we could never exist under American imperialistic rule..
Can you imagine being in 5th grade in like 2060 and reading a text-book that says "At one point the US was so utterly destitute that it elected a reality tv star to be it's president... twice." It's a good thing literally everything is recorded now or we'd likely be called liars in 30 years time.
Strange? Feels like the entire human history before the end of WW2. 1945-2022 was really exceptional time, unlike anything before. People just got used to it, started thinking it was normal.
Hei, I'm from Latvia and wanted to express my deepest support to Denmark and Greenland. It's been quite insulting to hear this language coming from Americans (and, yes, there are many of those who support these crazy Trump's ideas). Trump has opened a second front against Europe (first one being Putin's war in Ukraine) and has begun the destruction of NATO. This means we in the Baltics, Nordics and elsewhere in Europe, need to create our own, old-new, alliance. We need to start protectioning ourselves economically and be very careful what information we exchange with the Americans. Yea... never thought I'd see this in my lifetime, but here we are. Stay strong.
I agree. Europe should have their own alliances apart from NATO and the US. As a norwegian, I would love a "baltic" alliance a lot more than this current sh*t show.
The vast majority of Americans have no desire whatsoever to acquire other sovereign nations. Please take President elect Trump’s remarks with a grain of salt. It’s NOT going to happen.
@@Antares2 There's nothing wrong with NATO! - infact, we should instead invest more into this Alliance, since Trump seems hellbent on pulling out the USA from the NATO-alliance. If so happens, Trump would just severely vilify USA in the eyes of the entire world, creating new enemies, amongst old allies ..and no-one(in their right mind), would never again trust any security-insurances, given by USA.
Right at the end is one of the most important points. Would you rather the PRC buy out Greenland or have Europe/North America support the desire of its population to exploit its resources? 70% of Greenlanders want independence, Denmark had *previously* said they would not fund Greenland after independence, Canada couldn't care less, therefore the default option would've been China who had already grown their ownership in Greenlandic companies and become 2nd largest trading partner by 2018. Now, due to Trump's "silly" comments in 2018/19 and more recently alarm bells have been ringing and Denmark is ploughing in $1.5bn for defense. Good... but more work to do.
@@kirstinevad347 Did you read my comment that I made about that relevant point towards the *end* of the video? Trump's comments were *before* the 2022 full scale war in Ukraine. Germany and (most) others chose to ignore the need to increase military spending so, yes, blame your own governments for laughing at the warnings instead of praising them for *belatedly* increasing spending only after the full scale emergency (having pretty much ignored Crimea, Donbas, Abkhazia, etc., previously.)
@@dw620 Yes I read it. I just watced a greenlandic politician in an interview state that only a few chinese were in Greenland at asembly lines in fish factorys, but she must be misinformed. 😉 I dont blame my politicians for not preparing for war. I blame Putin for his agressions. Of cource you know that Europe contributes as much as US both on millitary and civilian / humanitarian support. Danes agreed that schools and hospitals were more important than weapons at that time. Despite our size (6 millions) we have 4th largest contributor sometime last year. Pr capita only Poland and the Baltics give more. I am not ashamed, though I cant understand that we neglect our own defence now, and I am surprised my fellow danes didn't know the state of our millitary. If one had eyes and ears open to it, you would know. I was in Beredskabskorpset (wartime fire and rescue) starting 89' or 90' I dont remember. Still have the book that told me where to mobilise in case of mobilisation. Worked in Nuuk in Greenland as a nurse in 2002 for seven months. I dont see inuit (greenlanders) selling Greenland to China, not even to big companies. Pardon my spelling and if my answer came of as rude. I'm of to bed. There certainly is many great things about US. Take good care of your country and your fellow americans. Be blessed.
@@dw620 It's funny seeing Americans say things like this though, because America only really invests in it's military to protect itself and not it's allies. Even though the US has one of the largest military spendings it is ranked 16th in percentage of GDP donated to Ukraine, meanwhile Denmark is ranked 2nd. I agree that other EU countries should also invest more in military, but don't make it sound like America is this guardian angel that does everything it can to protect the EU,
In the unlikely event that this 3am idea would ever come to pass, the US would doubtless pay each of the 56,000 Greenlanders a handsome sum ($2 million?) to relinquish their claims to the country.

Why? Don't fall for the left-wing BS. Canada is safe and so is Greenland. Greenland is independent and should be under United States protection. Canada needs to get it's act together and stop ripping off America while stabbing us in the back economically. Otherwise, the free-loading stops. Panama has severely betrayed America's interests in the Panama Canal - an enormously expensive American project that cost many thousands of American lives. Turning this vital national interest over to Chinese control is not acceptable. We have every right and obligation to stop that.
I completely understand 🇨🇦 it's unfortunately not funny or "just a dumb joke" but something he actually wants to do. Look back at how he describes Canada and Denmark/Europe. It's been part of his thinking for at least 9 years.
This is all par for the course. During his first term he beat up Canada on free-trade, pushed an EU politican out of his way to be the centre of the photo all the while talking about how great dictators are.
Not crazy.. that's missing the most dangerous part. He wants the media talking about this instead of him creating an oligarchy mafia state based on Putin's Russia. He's removing regulation, and guardrails, destroying all fed departments, and installing loyalists to weaponize the IRS and FBI. He will then extort billionaires and/or sell favors and take cuts. He spins it piecemeal. He tried in first term to some success, but now he is being much more systematic about it. Hitler in the streets, Putin in the sheets. This is his primary goal, all this culture stuff is read meat to the base to keep them excited and red herrings for media. And it's working, with everyone talking about this nonsense. His only true skill is manipulating the media, and of course fraud, cheating, extorting, and rep smearing.
Hi, Anders, I'm from Ukraine and I want to thank you for supporting Ukraine. By the way, I noticed that Trump's rhetoric is very similar to Putin's rhetoric regarding Ukraine. I mean, he talks a lot about security at the expense of other sovereign territories that are not his, about helping someone because they are "suffering", and about how they all want to be part of our country (Russia or the US). It's very sad to hear this, in the US context it's even sadder because I thought people in the US are not as brainwashed as they are in Russia to vote for such a bad person as Trump. Greenland is not for sale!

But I guess there's no money for that. We need the money for all the pockets which lack proper lining..Like Orban's or so...
Americans are becoming more ignorant by the day! Trump doesn't want expansion, he's just changing the subject because he clearly won't resolve the Ukraine-Russia conflict on day 1. Just like he won't resolve inflation, crime, housing, homelessness, gun violence, mass shootings, etc. even on day 1460.
We hope our American friends won’t take Trump’s rhetoric on this matter to heart. After 9/11, we stood by you. Thousands of Danes fought alongside American troops in Afghanistan, paying a high price. Stationed in Helmand province, the Danish forces suffered the highest per capita losses within the coalition forces. Abandoning our 80-year alliance would deeply dishonor their sacrifice.
We don't keep alliances for the sake of past wars. Afghanistan is already forgotten. We were in the world police business. Now? We might be empire business😅😂

So sorry for the people of Greenland and Denmark to be on the receiving end of this kind of bullying behaviour by an allied country. Old style imperialism - colonialism … wondering which century we currently live in… such terrible behaviour between friendly allied countries.
Internet is not for everyone, Trump is clearly trolling, for US to do anything it has to pass through the congress and we already saw what happened with the spending bill
I suspect that Trump is trying to distract from his sentencing in New York. However, if I'm wrong, and remember Trump has said how much he admires Putin, then all the postwar assumptions and alliances are going to disappear. I think that we in Europe, EU or not, had better start preparing for the worst case scenario.
As a Danish Afghan Vet. Trumps rhetoric really gives a sour taste in my mouth.. (to put it lightly) Every Danish soldier that died, got maimed and came home with PTSD from that war, did so because USA called its allies to join them in the war against terror, after the 9/11 attack. Not only did Trump pull the rug under the Afghan government by negotiating a withdrawal of US troops with Taliban.. he also destabilized the coalition to the point were all the allied countries could do nothing but pull out by pulling thousands of US troops. And now he pisses all over those allies bled in the trenches with US soldiers. Unbelievable...
Couldn't have said it better. Trump is clearly not stupid but this talk about expansion is remarkably foolish. As a Brit, we have this constantly with the Falkland Islands where the modern ideal of self-determination drives every valid argument. The populace vote, overwhelmingly, in 'free and fair' polls to remain connected to London, not Buenos Aires.
As a Danish war veteran, you are just a stooge in the US scheme. Interestingly, most Americans would just assume you are from the same place as Bridgette Neilson which they probably assume is 'somewhere in America' or so.
The Afghan government you fought for was never popular by the Afghanis. As soon as the western powers left it collapsed and no one fought for it. 20 years for nothing
the population of Greenland has on several occasions rejected mining, so regardless of how much the underground is worth, Greenlanders are not interested in transforming there nature into a lunar landscape
I believe the concern is to guarantee the rare earth/ mineral deposits against access/ exploitation by our common Adversaries. Primarily it's about deny access to Russia and China. More realistically would be a Compact of Free Association that would both recognize and guarantee the Sovereignty of Greenland for the Greenlanders. Such a compact typically includes financial/ economic/developmental assistance; Generally also included are provisions for increased access to/ Treaty guaranteed Defense by the US Military and Coast Guard.
I had no idea you were this proficient in the English language, very surprising. I've seen you on TV a couple of times talking about the war in Ukraine, you're a good speaker!
As an American, this is beyond embarrassing. I can't believe we have 4 years of this nonsense to come. It's already gotten off to a worse start than I'd imagined and I was extremely pessimistic about anything his administration was going to do. I'm sorry to all our European friends. A disturbing amount of our population needs to learn the hard way why this imperialistic, overly isolationist attitude is dumb and self-destructive. While I have little doubt this is all bravado, it really doesn't make any of it acceptable in the slightest.
You know, i believe most Finns would be open to selling Åland Islands to USA if Trump wants to spend some hard currency... :D Just to be clear, Ålanders would be not be paying any taxes, like they currently aren't, and would be instead demanding subsidies to sustain themselves! Also, no oil or minerals there, just fish and some barren rocks! I'm also mostly joking, mostly :D
I concur. When he said "Americans", and referring to Trump's narcissistic plans to exploit Greenland, I felt repulsed because everyone else is getting dragged along with MAGA.
I predict it'll only get worse and with each escalation from Jabba The Hut we'll wonder if he can get any lower. But somehow he always manages to sink to deeper depths of depravity.
This completely flies in the face of America ideals. The declaration of independence was written solely off the back of the concept of the right to self-determination. The population of the thirteen colonies get to choose their government. The declaration even states that this right belongs to all men. The only people who can determine Greenland's government are Greenlanders. If they want to stay with denmark, or even become independent, that is up to them. America must respect their wishes.
Lets NOT act like the US ever bought Alaska from Russia. or that the US bought the Danish West Indies from Denamrk in 1917! Oh, and Panama, the US never did re-invade the Panama in 1989. And if the US did it must have been Trumps fault, right? Cause Trumps opponets cares SOOOO much about the polical documents of the founding fathers, lets pretend that too! Sure.....
We didn't respect the wishes of the natives after the Louisiana purchase, and many founding fathers were alive to witness that. Not sure that your statement about this being against American ideals is accurate.
The only people who can decide the future of Greenland are the people of Greenland themselves. So Trump is wrong that he can buy Greenland from Denmark, but he can buy it from the people of Greenland. All the Americans have to do is give them a larger subsidy than Denmark is currently giving and it's "Farvel Danmark" and "Hello USA".
As a dane, im dissapointed in the American threats. We were by your side after 9/11 and when have we ever resisted to Co-work on your national security. Never.. and now you threaten us with economics and military overpower to steal a part of denmark while telling Putin he cant have Ukraine. Doublestandards… MAGA clearly dont give a fuck about how. Trump has never shown great moral or ethics. We got who they voted for.
I really thought that we had put this nonsense to rest in 2019. I don't agree much with our prime minister, but I was proud of how fast she shot that absurdity down. I have no words for how insane it is to be threatened by a supposedly allied country, because we won't sell something that isn't ours to sell.
Another fun fact, nobody in Denmark really refers to it as the Kingdom of Denmark. We refer to it as 'rigsfælleskabet' which essentially translates as 'Community of Realms' We have learned from our colonial days and now seek to support Greenland in their quest for eventual full independence. It's very entertaining for his domestic audience, but a horrid owngoal on the international stage that likely will affect the succes of American international endeavours negatively for a very long time.
"As now they can 'demonstrate' that such actions aren't about upholding international law"... never has been, never will be. International politics is about power, plain and simple; hypocrisy literally doesn't matter except to moral grandstanders. "Upholding international law" only happens with a dominant consensus of military power anyways, hence it only matters that enough powerful nations agree it to be important. Even then, would western countries fight to defend North Korea against a Chinese invasion? If not, then it actually isn't about international law at all. China doesn't need "demonstrations" to not believe in western views on international politics. The only thing that matters is whether or not they will get their asses kicked for invading neighboring countries such as Taiwan.

It find it bizarre how far he dismisses Trump, because if he wants it he will take it - conflict between allies is a zero-sum game and Denmark knows the US is its primary security provider and that it is better the devil you know. I think it is very likely Denmark capitulates. It's just hilarious talking about what people want and that Greenland wants independence - it doesn't matter! Like, they have no leverage. Idealism and normative statements DO NOT mean anything...
Anders has suddenly dropped the professional shirt and tie is instead wearing the Zelenskyy ready for battle T-shirt. I don't think this is a coincidence.
You need to listen to what he says. The only spot he is talking about using troops for is Panama. For Greenland, he will offer a massive carrot. He could offer $15 million to everyone in Greenland and it would only cost $855,000,000,000
You don't understand the balance of power in international relations, and the constant incentive of self-interest. Denmark is going to capitulate, unfortunately.
Three historic points to be added: 1. The US recognized full Danish superiority over Greenland in 1917. That was part of the agreement when Denmark sold the Danish West India Islands to the US. If the US goes back on the deal then the purchase is also of and Denmark will take back the islands. The US has no right to compensation as it had full benefit of the islands for the last 108 years. 2. In a trial in 1933 the International Court in Haag decided that Denmark had full control of all of Greenland when Norway disputed it. 3. Important in the latter case is that the Inuit people in Greenland made statements saying that they wanted to stay connected to Denmark. This was the first and only time the people made any such statement and it had an effect on the ruling.
These are important facts for most people. The problem is that MAGA is not most people, they do not understand nor care for these legal frameworks. Hell, even more moderate American presidents have spat in the face of the ICC and other such institutions. To them none of this matters, as it's the law of the jungle where the strongest wins, and the Trump camp are all high on the Trump opium. Too high too question anything he says, no matter how deranged. Russia and China are the only other countries showing such disregard, and they're both authoritarian dictatorships with personality cults.
I only wish that Trump cared about rulings and angreements and precedents. 😢 Putin has demonstrated that such things mean nothing to him; same with Trump. The only difference is that some American politicians are fighting back against Trump; Russian politicians aren't.
I don't see how any of this matters. True, Trump can't buy Greenland from Denmark because Denmark doesn't own it, but if he can entice the people of Greenland to vote to join the US as a state then I don't see how Denmark can stop it. So Trump is fully able to buy Greenland, he just has to buy it from the people of Greenland and not Denmark.
You said: "As a Canadian I must say it's not great to be the target of Donald Trump's lies, threats and bluster." I'm much more concerned with the welfare of the American people. Most are simply not used to any real hardships. We'll see if this term is the start of another dreaded US. "Gilded age", where billionaire robber barons dominate all wealth, government and media. This time the barons ARE the government.
The primary military needs revamping and more funding too. We need to reconsider the idea of mandatory service and maybe building a national guard; for people less inclined to fight abroad.

Agree brother. It is more like 44% who did not vote for DJT versus the 45% who are stupid and the 11% who are almost as stupid because they were too lazy to vote against him.
Don't flatter Americans. 48% of voting Americans had enough reason to vote against Trump. However, besides 50% that voted for Trump and 2% voting for others allowing Trump to win, there are also 36% of voters, who didn't go to vote. So, their brain decided that it would be ok no matter who of the two would win. Which is quite stupid too. So, if you talk about those who voted you can say 48%. If you talk about those who could vote, than 48% of 64%. Which is under 31%.
The reason they didn't vote was probably because they would have to vote for a lady. Simple as that. Trump got almost exactly as many votes as last time when he lost. That is thoughtworthy!

It’s all very weird. USA already has unlimited access to any land or infrastructure in Greenland or Denmark for that matter. Denmark has a romantic relationship with Greenland where they’ll pay very high benefits to Greenland for no real return, at least compared to what else that money could be spent on. The Inuit nationalists (current Greenland was founded as a Norse colony, so it’s important to distinguish between the real natives and the immigrating Inuits from the north) want independence at any cost, besides getting their Danish funding cut (for some strange reason they see no limit to how evil Denmark is, but telling them that leaving the union would mean their welfare stops is apparently controversial). Good luck getting the Americans to fund Greenland welfare or showing the cultural sensitivity to allow Inuit to be spoken in parliament, like Denmark just did (despite all Greenland politicians being fluent in Danish, we just allowed them translators to and from Inuit. USA doesn’t even allow Spanish to be spoken in their institutions). It’s very clear that Trump just wants resources and more land to destroy. He then rallied local village idiots and took advantage of existing tensions, like he already did in USA, to further his narcistic cause. The funniest thing is that he just mentioned how Inuits experienced racism from Danes. Wonder what the Latinos and African Americans, or just women in general, experience from the Trumptards?
Good points👍Inuit have lived in Greenland for about 4,500 years with at least 5 waves of Inuit immigration, the most recent being the Thule people. It was during the 4th migration that the Inuit bumped into the Nordboer Norwegian Vikings in southern Greenland

It's been quite insulting to hear this language coming from Americans (and, yes, there are many of those who support these crazy Trump's ideas). Trump has opened a second front against Europe (first one being Putin's war in Ukraine) and has begun the destruction of NATO. We need to start protectioning ourselves economically and be very careful what information we exchange with the Americans. Yea... never thought I'd see this in my lifetime, but here we are.

Trump negotiated a timed removal of troops from Afghanistan .... it was Biden that fucked that operation up
Couldn't have said it better.
Unpalatable... but not really unsurprising I'm afraid

Primarily it's about deny access to Russia and China.
More realistically would be a Compact of Free Association that would both recognize and guarantee the Sovereignty of Greenland for the Greenlanders. Such a compact typically includes financial/ economic/developmental assistance;
Generally also included are provisions for increased access to/ Treaty guaranteed Defense by the US Military and Coast Guard.

You don't understand the balance of power in international relations, and the constant incentive of self-interest. Denmark is going to capitulate, unfortunately.
Three historic points to be added:
Great information! 🙏
Do you belive in what the Us goverment hans signed?

I don't see how any of this matters. So Trump is fully able to buy Greenland, he just has to buy it from the people of Greenland and not Denmark.

We need to reconsider the idea of mandatory service and maybe building a national guard; for people less inclined to fight abroad.
@@GiarcraiGO Canada might want to spend 2% of GDP on defense. You know, like they agreed to do.
Trump wants Greenland, now go tell Putin he cannot have Ukraine 🤦♀️
Exactly, or China taking full control over Taiwan
Putin is free to bid for Ukraine's fair market price, too. This is the art of the deal.
Putin: The Donbass is Russia.....
Trump: Hold my Beer.....
you can’t have Ukraine. The word.
Putin: Ukraine, the 3 Baltic states, and eastern Europe is Russia.....
China: Taiwan and all it's Tech companies and their production is now owned by us
Trump: I was always a fool and nothing changed ...
Reading the comments, it's just so fascinating how MAGA people and pro-Putin Russians are basically the same people.
Right? Honestly I less and less ask myself how ww2 happened. You'd think it's lack of information or knowing better but it's probably just greed and egoism with complete disregard even for their own future selves...

Very informative and serious message. Thank you!
It's just really frustrating. 3 years of people downplaying our Russian enemies, saying that we shouldn't lift a finger to curb their g*nocidal war because we're somehow only allowed to focus on the homeland and it's all about peace. And now the same ones clap like seals over... Whatever this is.
Buying out 57k people and getting more territory than Mexico sounds like a great deal. I have a family of five - would I take $5 mln to ditch Greenland? Hells yes.
Indeed!
At the same time the US is financing the Israeli occupation and genocidal war in Palestine. There are no principles in international politics.
First of all, learn why Russia invaded Ukraine. Secondly, if you believe America was some sort of “protector of the free world” sort of country then I recommend you revise history. Have you forgotten Iraq? Both Russia and America have had greedy foreign policies for decades but however people only think Russia is a terror state with brainwashed citizens. If anything, a considerable amount of brainwashed citizens in both America in Europe exist as well!

10/10 video. Would purchase Norway from you.
On behalf of the 48% of Americans that are not so stupid, I apologize that you even have to cover this.
Well i'm glad at least there was that big a group of voters might not make one ounce of differnce regarding the presidency. But at least the margines in the House and Senate are small enough that the few normale republicans can still block anything to crazy with the help of the Dems.
@@bf2840 the 48% of Americans voted for Kamala they are that smart

The man isn't even sworn in yet, but the circus tents are up and the show is already in full swing. And there's four more years of this to come.
When a clown moves into a palace...
If the world is lucky, there are only 4 more years. We will have to see if there is a US democracy left to save things after the midterm results
Dear god, you really think things will get worse? This is the first time in modern history we have had an opportunity to fix our country. Gut it all and start over with Trump leading the charge
@@jamesthompson7534 This is how you want to fix it? Yeah, Trump is going to save the MSM! Finally some one belives in the again! The stock market value of CNN even went up!
Turn of the TV, problem solved!
American here! We are not ok. 😭 We are so sorry. Only half of us voted for Trump. We don’t know what we are going to do.
Times like this I'm glad to be from an unimportant country. My politicians may be just as retarded but at least it's not broadcasted for the whole world to see.
I don't think you'd be better off with other presidents. All of them are the same.
I suggest trying to find a democratic country populated by sane people to live in - as America has just screwed itself for the lifetime of everyone watching.
Do not obey in advance.
Buddy, he's not planning 2 buy Greenland. USA defacto already owns Greenland. He's throwing in these narrative before his presidency - 4 a reason. Since yall so smart - figure them out yourselves. Im done deciphering everything 4 U, kids
He just wants a bit of Lebensraum for the fatherland.
I am an American. German born. My uncle died at Stalingrad as part of the Wehrmacht. My father came back from the Eastern front at 19 years of age, both having been forced to go fight a bloody war for a mad man and my father lived his life just hoping he would die tomorrow. If you think a comment like yours still has a place in this time and age, phukk off.
It is clear you understand nothing.
Ja, das ist richtig. But seriously, Trump does seem to be on a 1930s Hitler track with Lebensraum, etc.
Yep. I used to laugh at people who compared modern events to "the leadup to ww2", but now even I'm seeing the argument. This reckless unquestioning of a leader who is clearly a madman with no regard for anyone else. Trump seems like a drug for his followers.
Så godt forklaret og fortalt 👍👍
Greenland is also open to US mining and oil drilling, just as Chevron was part of the companies extracting oil from the Danish North sea sector.
Good points👍Inuit have lived in Greenland for about 4,500 years with at least 5 waves of Inuit immigration, the most recent being the Thule people. It was during the 4th migration that the Inuit bumped into the Nordboer Norwegian Vikings in southern Greenland
@fridrekr7510 ... Well said
Just look at how badly the USA is treating the inuits of Alaska, very badly indeed, so bad.
If Denmark can fund Greenland welfare, the US can do so out of the Pentagon's budget for copier paper.
A voice of reason - as always ❤
Man, as a Norwegian I'd 100% be for invoking Articles 4 and 5 if he said something similar about Svalbard.
Yeah? You want to die in nuclear fire ? Sounds terrible
@@edhill735heck if we have to join Russia and outnumber the US in nukes I guess we do. You forgetting that the US isn't the only nation with nukes? Why would the US wanna fight all of NATO, whcih would obviously put them at risk because china 100% would take that opportunity to invade Taiwan, stretching the US military far beyond designed capacity where it now is fighting s war against equal tech in China, and equal tech in old allies. Russia would probably take the opportunity too. Terrible take on what the result of threatening the independence of territories protected by international law is. It's not Americas place to wave it's military around. Trump is undoing decades of trustbuilding and cooperation, and for what?
Vell done sir. Thank You.

So sorry for Denmark and Greenland! It's really scary: as if ruzzia wasn't enough, now the US is stepping on the same path of madness. We need European defense forces ASAP (and we need Ukraine in it, as it's the only European nation able to fight a modern war).
Trump in Washington and bunker grandpa in Moscow, it's the same rethoric. Yes, I very much agree with all you say.
I can assure you the people of the US have absolutely no, as in zero, desire to take over any other country. It's that mango moron who wants this, not us.
You really drank the whole coolaid on this one?
Most European countries don't even bother paying 2% gdp for military. They'd happily give up Greenland for their continued protection from the US and free healthcare
"European defense forces ASAP " 🤣🤣🤣- call Harry Potter and his magical ward ! Decades of submission to US / NATO rules were imposed to the EU exactly to avoid this.
