You two must both have great knees. There is nothing more than I wish to kneel down in my garden. Can get down but not up! LOL Love watching you work together. Such a paradise garden.
You certainly have a true homestead that is not only productive but also beautiful. But, I kept waiting for little Hank's appearances! He is so cute!!!
i find here with all cane type berrys, i rotto till between the rows every spring or fall and put all my wood ashs from the stove in between the rows fairly heavy, and that stops all weed and they put out more berrys, theey like there roots and ground disturb regularly
My only problem with your videos is that they need to be about an hour longer! :) I'm never ready to be finished. I didn't think Deep South could be anymore cheerful but then you got Hank. What a cutie and I'm amazed that he stays right there with you. Thanks for sharing!
I want thronless also..I have some wild ones growing on powerline, but they bushhog them Everytime they clean the line..Hank is cute!! He's being the supervisor..be safe & blessed 🙏✝️
Very awesome piece of dirt you have there sir. Good suggestion to wait for fall when the leaves are gone to do your heavy pruning. I’ve taken my figs down to 6 or eight inches from a 5 foot tree. It tripled the yield of fruit the next year.
Thanks. I’ve been fussing with mine for about 3 years. I have Arkansas Travelers. I just couldn’t get them to Bush out. Mine want to grow mile high canes with only Berries on the ends. Now I know how to fix that.
Hi you two,I had to have a big area in my back yard of blackberry bushes cut out. They have the thorns on them and grow very wild here in Berkeley. It's hard because I love them, but they trail, and get out of control.I see how you cut yours back, and trellis them with the string.I think i'm going to try this so I can still have some blackberries in the Summer. You would be proud of me for I pulled the bottom leaves off of my 2 tomatoe plants in pots, and they are taking off and full of flowers, and tomatoes now.I have the earliest tomatoes coming on and getting red now than my neighbor's.Now I can teach them how to prune tomatoe plants by you teaching how to do it here on utube.Next Spring I am going to grow a lot more vegetables in my 5 tier Green Stalk. Also in more big pots, and grow bags. Also going to start growing as soon as I can in my area. This has been the hotest July I have seen in I can't even remember when, really. We don't have air conditioner's just fans here, and run them in every room when it's hot. These next few days it's going to get hot here.I wouldn't mind some downpours of rain here.May look into a blueberry bush that will grow well in our area.Hank is soo fun running around in the bush clippings. He is growing bigger, and cuter by the day.Keep cool you all,and take your breaks.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡....Hugs and treats for Hank, and the goats.
Thank you for taking the time to show us all that you do. Sometimes things do necessarily apply to western pa, but many times they do and I almost always learn something. Thank you.
Hank is so cute :-) 06:00 this morning I was talking a bout canning lol She did not know what it was, what you did ect. Well she does now lol. I don't know every think but I am getting there. That made work go a little faster. Have a great day.
Nice video, I planted 22 apache blackberries this spring, most have survived the drought we have had so far, this has NOT been an easy year for new plantings.
Good info. I've been looking for a very old variety called "Lawton" .. A friend had family out east that had grown them back in their homesteading days.
Thanks Danny. It must be why a couple of little berry bushes I bought early this year look kinda beat up. I thought it was from from all the rain. The little Bush was near death when I got it. It snapped out of it and looked good for quite some time but now I'm seeing some dying stems and a few leaves. I'll leave it til summer is over. If it survives it will probably take a couple years to get any fruit.
Very helpful. You got a new sub and I'll be watching for your blueberry video. I have about 10 plants and don't know much about them. I'll sponge up all the info you want to give out! LOL Thanks.
I'm in love with Hank!!! Mimosa weed is officially called Chamberbitter and is a member of the Spurge family. I've been fighting it for years, but I only have 1 acre. Don't know how you'd fight it on as big a property as ya;ll have,
Thanks for the video. I bought some blackberries this year and will have to wait until next year before they produce any fruit. So your video is good to know. :-)
The video is helpful. I have planted thornless blackberries for the first time.Is there anything I can do to make the blackberries sweeter ? Love watching Hank run around and getting in to everything.
What do you do with your sugar cane? I just cut out all the dead leaves out of mine the other day and burned the debris from them. I have never done anything with the sugar cane and saw a video of how to use bamboo to get the sugar water out of them but it seems like a lot of work.
Hank is a great helper 😂 Thanks for the tips on training them! We also have thornless blackberries - planted 6 tiny plants 2 summers ago. 2 didn't make it, but the other 4 took off and are *massive* this year. Got away from us during a rainy spring, but we have been picking a gallon a day for the last ten days! Some things have struggled this year in 7b GA, but these have been fantastic. Hopefully Wanda has some ideas for using them - already done buckle and cobbler and getting ready for jam, but still have tons of them in the freezer. Syrup? Juice?
Mr. Danny, I just found out the real name of the mimosa weeds! Bitter Chamber! Just thought I'd let yall know for when people think you mean mimosa trees....that's probably what I'll still call it though :)
I need to clean mine out too! Drought has hurt my bushes, but new branches are coming up! What do you do with the sprouts that pop up??? Hank is learning farming! Loki(11 mon LGD) is learning rabbits n chickens right now.
Great video Danny! I'm in southwest florida along the Gulf and my black berries just finished fruiting and i notice a few dead canes. Anyone know if this is normal? These blackberries this year were the best tasting blackberries i have ever had. Just wondering if this is a sign the plant is dying?
StarLight No, just old dead canes. Cut em out, just like Mr. Danny showed you. You'll get dead canes and new canes every year. Cut the dead ones out every year. Fruit grows on the new canes.
Thank you for the reply! I just subscribed and will follow your channel. Also I’d like to know if you grow any raspberry’s and blueberries which types thank you!?
Do yall also grow grapes if so can you tell me a little bit how to take care of them. first year we trimmed them back and this year didn't think they were going to come back but they finally did. I'm new to growing grapes we have 1 seedless red and 1 seedless green. thanks Danny
every year you need to prune them but only after the summer like in november early oct and in early spring start tipping them but water them twice a day once in early morning and then in the night time when a storm is coming the night before cover them with a plastic sheet
Memosa is not a weed; it is a tree. My advice is eradicate completely and find out where it blew in from and torch that tree too or you will be fighting a big uphill battle.
Yep, this year its all over my garden. I pull it and the next day theres more. It probably has a more correct name but we call it mimosa weed too...but we all know it's not the tree.
Wow, a weed too! So, no herbicides work well; only pulling seems to give good results. It is called a Niruri, comes from Asia, and matured into a bush. Great, time to go do some pulling, I need all the nutrients I can keep.
I don't understand what happened to Hank we miss him I think someone took him off once she got on the road dog Kong I'd move Heaven and Earth to recover Hank
I rode around and looked and called for him several times. The neighbors said they didn't see him. Danny thought he would just wander back later that evening.
Mr. Danny you are such an inspiration and a good steward of everything God has blessed you with.
You two must both have great knees. There is nothing more than I wish to kneel down in my garden. Can get down but not up! LOL Love watching you work together. Such a paradise garden.
Hank is a great little helper 😃
You certainly have a true homestead that is not only productive but also beautiful. But, I kept waiting for little Hank's appearances! He is so cute!!!
Thanks Danny good instructional..Also thanks Wanda and Hank.
Love the dog, had to go back a second time to listen.
i find here with all cane type berrys, i rotto till between the rows every spring or fall and put all my wood ashs from the stove in between the rows fairly heavy, and that stops all weed and they put out more berrys, theey like there roots and ground disturb regularly
Really enjoyed the instructions on trimming the blackberries and why you didn't. God bless.
Thank you for the video. I want to try thornless Blackberrys. Now I will know what to do.
I Love puppies no matter what. He was right there helping! Thanks for this.
Hank is a great supervisor! He's getting so big. Thanks for taking us along on the clean up and chores - great video!
My only problem with your videos is that they need to be about an hour longer! :) I'm never ready to be finished. I didn't think Deep South could be anymore cheerful but then you got Hank. What a cutie and I'm amazed that he stays right there with you. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you the detailed instructions. I just bought some raspberries and need to plant them soon. Hank is so cute.
Great information. Hank keeps right up with you too. So cute God Bless
Thank you, Danny! Very helpful.
I want thronless also..I have some wild ones growing on powerline, but they bushhog them Everytime they clean the line..Hank is cute!! He's being the supervisor..be safe & blessed 🙏✝️
Hank sure is having a good time helping out.

Ah Danny, you read my mind! I was just pondering about trimming my blueberry bushes. You gave me some good food for thought!
Thanks. I’ve been fussing with mine for about 3 years. I have Arkansas Travelers. I just couldn’t get them to Bush out. Mine want to grow mile high canes with only Berries on the ends. Now I know how to fix that.

Not sure who I enjoy watching more....Danny or Hank....

Good morning. Great how to video.
I have a bunch of work i need to do with my blueberries this fall if they survive this drought.
I never thought I'd see someone caring for blackberries. We do all we can to get rid of them.
Melissa Gannon That seems like a terrible waste, one of God's sweet gifts!
Deep South Homestead, with HANK the wonder dog,,,,assisted by Danny and Wanda!
Thanks for the video. I bought some blackberries this year and will have to wait until next year before they produce any fruit. So your video is good to know. :-)
ohhhhh wheeeeee send some of that rain to us in the Hill country Texas..... pppllleeeaaasseeeeee

The video is helpful. I have planted thornless blackberries for the first time.Is there anything I can do to make the blackberries sweeter ? Love watching Hank run around and getting in to everything.

Man the sugar cane you planted sure took off!
Great video thankyou 😀
Really enjoyed your video Danny!!
Hank was an added blessing.
Is that Lemon grass in the background?
Sugar cane
What do you do with your sugar cane? I just cut out all the dead leaves out of mine the other day and burned the debris from them. I have never done anything with the sugar cane and saw a video of how to use bamboo to get the sugar water out of them but it seems like a lot of work.

Correction- chamberbitter!!
Yes, we studied it last year. I plan to do a video on Crazy Dazes on it soon.
They have many medicinal properties!
Belinda J. Messmer I just was reading about it...sells for $15 a pound!
0:05 blame it on the pigs, that’s a new one. Lol
Danny on my blueberry plant I have a bright red spot on one of the leaves. I am in SWFL is that from the heat or do I need to do something?
What would be your suggestion , on transplanting blackberries
Thornless? I will have to try that. I hate mine because my arms come away scratched everywhere!
PS. What king of dog Hank??
Question- What's your thoughts on using a cattle panel for the blackberries?
Love the pup!! What breed is he??
Mr.Danny do you have ground cover on your blackberries vines and so what do you use?Enjoyed video thank you God Bless
The green that you just cut out can your start new plants from that to make more plants
Are the blackberry cuttings fragrant, could they be dried and chipped up and use for smoking chips when cooking on the smoker.
No they have no scent.
No prickles wow, you couldn't handle ours in Australia without thick gloves.😉😊😉
I need to clean mine out too! Drought has hurt my bushes, but new branches are coming up! What do you do with the sprouts that pop up??? Hank is learning farming! Loki(11 mon LGD) is learning rabbits n chickens right now.
Looks like a mimosa back behind him in first shot.
Yes we have a huge mimosa
Great Video. What gauge wire do you use on Raspberries?
What happen to Hank? I just saw him on this older video which I have never seen him on the newer ones.
I'm in So. Calif. and my blackberries have fried on the bush..late for some reason, still getting ripe, not enough shade I guess.
Do the thornless berries and wild thorned varieties cross pollinate? Tfs 🤗🌱💚
The weather forecast seems a bit gloomy and certain. Maybe those used to extremes will see mild weather?
Could I go dig up black berry plants that are down a dirt road by my house and re plant them and if so what time of the year would you do it
Why do you have them backed up to -is that cane or another kind of grass?
Is it the same for raspberries? My patch is relatively new and just starting to get going.
will those blueberry trees grow in Mn
You get a pup Danny ?
Do you protect berries from the birds also
Great information but was a little hard to hear
Is this Lil dog still alive I don’t see him on any new videos
Just curious where in the Deep South are y’all located I’m trying to see if I can grow blackberries in south Mississippi
I live in south Ms and yes you can grow them here. I have found that the Arkansas Traveler is the best variety for us.
Thank you for the reply! I just subscribed and will follow your channel. Also I’d like to know if you grow any raspberry’s and blueberries which types thank you!?
Yes we have vining raspberries. The blueberries we have are Premiere and Alapaha
I'm sure you knew what you were doing but I didn't follow along very easily. Going to search videos with better visual details.
Looks like I asked to quickly, Sorry.
whaat is the tall grass in background?
Sugar cane
Do yall also grow grapes if so can you tell me a little bit how to take care of them. first year we trimmed them back and this year didn't think they were going to come back but they finally did. I'm new to growing grapes we have 1 seedless red and 1 seedless green. thanks Danny
We have scuppernongs and muscadines, so we can't grow grapes. They would cross.
every year you need to prune them but only after the summer like in november early oct and in early spring start tipping them but water them twice a day once in early morning and then in the night time
when a storm is coming the night before cover them with a plastic sheet
rosie slade thank you very much for the info.

Memosa is not a weed; it is a tree. My advice is eradicate completely and find out where it blew in from and torch that tree too or you will be fighting a big uphill battle.
We have a mimosa tree but this is a weed. Google it. Thanks
We've have mimosa weed starting to show up here also.
Yep, this year its all over my garden. I pull it and the next day theres more. It probably has a more correct name but we call it mimosa weed too...but we all know it's not the tree.
