I wish Gelsey had an easier journey. I don't mean any difficulties working hard for her art. I can't watch even Mariinsky ballerinas today. They don't have her artistry or her deep commitment, her acture. She almost makes me ignore Misha. She was magic here. She is not about 'what' she is performing, it is about the HOW she is performing and connecting each movement and connnecting to her partner. She deserves all her Flowers, every day for all time.
Gelsey was just doing something different than everybody else. She made the other dancers of her time look like they weren't taking it seriously and she makes the dancers of today look like gymnasts. She is the only artist in any field I can think of who was given everything to work with naturally.
Gelsey est une sylphide ou une elfe, elle a un je ne sais quoi qui n'appartient qu'à elle, ce qu'elle fait a l'air simple mais c'est du grand art, de la magie ! merci pour cette vidéo
This was during their legendary partnership. She talked about how just seeing him dance made her want to be the greatest thing there was... just so she could be on the same wavelength as him... Their partnership was special, they had a sort of... grandeur...
She wasn’t in his shadow. She was her own greatness, completely invented by her own self. I will always love and admire Gelsey…so remarkable in the world of ballet.💓
Hey! I actually found this on bilibili (my love for Gelsey is so great that I traversed the chinese websites). The video I found didn't have much info on the performance but your comment made me look into it more and I ended up finding a video on facebook which says that the ballet is called Awakening, choreographed by Robert Weiss, performed in 1975
This is the facebook vid it has more of Baryshnikov facebook.com/A-room-for-dancing-109126650821367/videos/gelsey-kirkland-baryshnikov-in-awakening-abt-1975/419447512790179/
"In the heart of northern Gaza lives Jouri Al-Araeer, an innocent child who is only six years old. But cancer has ravaged her small body, and sadly, wars and famine have made her suffer more each day. Her frail body barely hangs on her bones, depleted by hunger and malnutrition." www.gofundme.com/f/gauri-needs-your-help?lang=en_US
Clearly it was a silent film and the music was superimposed later. It seems to be the correct music piece though the synchronisation is not perfect (or at least not as perfect as Gelsey's musicality would have been)

Gelsey is so technically refined, expression so sensitive and her line so perfect...can't think of a more soulful ballerina of the time.
Two amazing dancers, artists who were on another level from the rest of the dance world .. Gelsey and Misha ,thank you x

Trancends all before and all after who have danced this great art form. Both sublime. Officially my 2 favorites....

The best ballerina who ever danced.
Agreed.
My god, how beautiful Thank you
She's as light and airy as a souffle. Just exquisite.
it's like somehow seeing a supernatural creature in our own world
Que hermoso! Porque hay tan poco material de Gelsey? Ella era tan perfecta delicada y verla con Misha realmente es un sueño ❤
GLORIOUS GELSEY!!!! During her getting along days with Le enfant terrible. She had the God-given gifts for continuous flow.
Лучшая пара, которую я видела. Гисли просто сокровище. Она не танцует, она сама музыка❤ Единственная, на которую я смотрю, хотя на сцене Миша😍
Amazing! Thanks for sharing ❤
Muchas gracias por compartir algo inédito de Misha
Looks like a recording from 1974-75 by the way she looks and is dancing.
Yup, its 1975!
Where on earth did you find this?? Any info on the performance? what , when , where? Thanks for posting!

The sound of the accompanying music is rather funky. Is that the actual music they were dancing to?
That’s what I’m wondering 🤔

Lovely! Whose choreography? Whose music?
Hey! sorry for the late reply, the choreographer is Robert Weiss but I'm not sure who the composer is
@@LaMC944 - Thanks, it's wonderful!
@@monellenyThe music is by Craig Steven Shuler (Sinfonietta)
