It was told that Veerappan gang was given butter milk on the way stopped by a village woman who brought it with high poison mixed with it !! After the van stopped the woman offered butter milk to them and after 15 minutes when all were fainted the van was driven to a point crossed by a truck and then police fired all around the van leaving the set-up driver & assistant already jumped & made to escape !!
On 18th October 2004, an undercover policeman lured Veerappan and his accomplices into an ambulance on the pretext of taking them to Dharmapuri for medical treatment. The Tamil Nadu Special Task Force surrounded the vehicle and the dacoits were finally nabbed. Veerappan’s associates Chandre Gowdar, Sethukuli Govindan and Sethumani were also killed in the operation. Veerappan’s body was buried at Moolakkadu near Mettur in Tamil Nadu.
