All these years later I decided to buy the Ultimate Edition and Your Playthrough is what I come to ensure im ready to go on my journey lol Thank you Ricky
It's fun imagining how things played out the way a turn goes. Your Mage Knight basically flew across a lake, landed at the monastery I think he'd already visited once before peacefully, grabbed the head monk and said "you all work for me now." Sometimes it feels a little odd that you take a reputation hit for some things (like using it to kill monsters) but I'm pretty sure that one was well-deserved.
This set of walkthroughs is the clearest video tutorial series I have ever seen for a board/wargame. I was able to open the box and start playing without reading the rules thanks to your videos.
3:32 Forgot to take -1 Reputation for charging that Threaten card :P By the way thanks a million for these videos. I just picked up the game and watching your vids to supplement the rule book is helping a lot.
I really appreciate the time you took to make these. I've had my eye on Mage Knight, and your videos are helping me decide if I want to shell out the dollars.
Minor correction - when taking an artifact as a reward, as you did at 10:30 when you defeated the dungeon, you draw 2 artifacts, choose 1, and put the other on the bottom of the artifact deck. The amount of artifact cards you draw to choose from is the number of artifacts you won as a reward + 1, as described on page 9 of the rulebook under section End of the Turn. "Artifact rewards from combat - draw that many plus one from the Artifacts deck. Place one of them on the bottom of the Artifacts deck, and put the rest on top of your Deed deck in any order." UPDATE: I see that you had already noted this in the video description text.
Really appreciate your video. No doubt its the best one so far about this mage knight board game on youtube. After watching your video, I can easily start my own game and only need the rulebook for searching specific things. Also, I like the way you chop your videos in pieces, which makes it easier to have a break
Hi Niclas, there is no "day" version of a spell. The less powerful spell can be used during both day and night. The more powerful version of a spell requires black mana, and you can only use black mana dice during the night. You can, however, use the more powerful spell, if you have the right mana, during the day when you are down a dungeon :)
This whole series was fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing that. You have shown me how awesome this game can be, and I can't wait to bust out m copy tomorrow!
Great video, as usual! One small correction: If you use the ultimate power of an artifact (the effect at the bottom of the card), the artifact is destroyed (it's removed from play altogether - it doesn't go back into any deck) rather than being discarded. This applies even to banner artifacts, but you can't use the ultimate power while the banner is attached to a unit.
Good question. Playing a card sideways can give you 1 Attack, 1 Move or 1 Influence. Playing a card sideways cannot give you 1 Ranged Attack. So, nope, playing cards sideways for Attack cannot help you during the ranged combat phase. (Look out for combos/expansions which allow you to turn Movement into Ranged Attack, then you might be ok!).
Yes, it is restricted to 1. But I ony used 1 - the first was not from the Source, it was from Mana Steal (my tactic card). I hope this helps, best wishes, Rick
Thanks for the reply. I got my Mage Knight game Friday. It's a pretty good game, different than what I thought it was going to be. I thought I was going to have health points, able to die, and monsters would be moving around the board somewhat. Even with those NOT being true, the game is still super fun to play. I'm setting up the board again right now to play. I have Runebound coming in the mail and was thinking about Gears of War......
I am not sure if this is already been said but at 3:45 u use a second dice from the source. You are only allowed to use 1 unless you have the white card which can give you a second die.
An easier and quicker way to solve the assign damage phase is to divide the enemies attack with your armor and round up. So if the attack is 7 and your armour is 2 it's 7/2 = 3,5 = 4 wound cards
Great gameplay. I have 2 questions: 1. Couldn't you use your skill +2 or add extra 2 cards sideways to power up your ranged attack against werewolf? 2. After taking 2 wounds could you just block that 1 attack (7-3-3=1)? Thanks a lot for these videos :D
Hi - thank you for watching ! To answer.... 1. no, you can only add to melee attacks this way, not Ranged. 2. Blocking is an all-or-nothing thing, so no, you can't partially block an attack. Hope this helps! Ricky.
Thanks for these videos, they are so amazing. Correct me if I'm wrong, which I most likely am, but doesn't that werewolf attack twice? Shouldn't you take 6 wounds, 3 from each attack? Thanks again, total newbie here, just ordered the game yesterday but love what I am seeing thus far.
hi, no, he only attacks once. But, he has something called "swiftness". Maybe this is what you are thinking of ? Swiftness just makes him twice as hard to block (i.e. his attacks are fast!).
I know that this is a very old video but I would still like to ask why you could not use swiftness on the werewolf and boost it with two of your cards to kill it
You cannot boost ranged attack with cards placed sideways. Is that what you thought you could do? Sideways cards only give regular attack, not ranged attack.
You cannot boost ranged attack with cards placed sideways. Is that what you thought you could do? Sideways cards only give regular attack, not ranged attack.
Hey man, love the series, I have ordered this game and cant wait to get started! Question about the wind movement spell. In a previous video, you used it during the night, to move 3 steps onto the monastery. Was this a correct move, or can you actually not use the "day" version during the night with spells? (aka, was it a mistake?) Thanks a lot, subscribed :)
Hey Ricky. Thanks for the videos. I appreciate learning through them. Quick question, at 7:17, you have a ranged attack 3 and the werewolf has 5 block. Are you allowed to use two cards to 'boost' the range attack 3? Like two cards turned sideways to make it 5? Or is there a rule against this? I am only new and trying to figure out things, so it's just a clarification for myself. Thanks ahead of time.
Hi Jared, no, sideways cards don't give Ranged Attack, only regular Block, regular Move, regular Influence or regular Attack (for melee). Good luck and hope you enjoy the game! R.R.
Hi Dylan, it depends on the skill. Some are once per turn, some are once per round. The once per round ones have an arrow representing a "turning over". Does this help ? Rick.
Also: Cant you spend extra cards as "ones" during the ranged attack phase? In that case, wouldnt swiftness+2 cards have killed the monster in the dungeon?
When fighting the werewolf at the dungeon, could you not have used your skill to increase the damage of the ranged attack to kill it before it attacked or is that skill for normal and ice attacks only?
A question Ricky: if you take achieve the block of the attack, cannot complete your attack, and retreat... does the block count when you choose to confront the same enemy again, or is that enemy reset completely?
I didn't play this right. after I seen how you went down into the dungeon and fought and blocked the werewolf the same action doesn't work with a monster that paralyzes. The card says you cant use your units, if you don't block the 6 hits your paralyzed so you have to discard all your non wound cards so you cant fight back unless you have some ready units to use. Yet the card says you cant use units.
For the ranged combat phase, does any damage done here get added to to the melee damage phase? (ie if I do ranged damage three and my enemy has 5 health, would that mean I only need to do 2 more damage? Or do I need to do 5 or more damage in any phase?)
The way damage is assigned is super confused. My friends and I played a game where we calculated damage by the "number of armors" used to absorb an attack. If the attack has power 7 and we have 3 armor, then it will take 3 armors (3-6-7) to fully absorb the attack, that's 3 wounds. You did the same thing, but you just subtracted until you couldn't anymore, leaving 2 wounds, plus 1 for the default wound from taking an attack. Did we read the rulebook wrong?
My questions goes like this. If i battle a monster with ice resistance 4, i beat it with fire attack 4 and ice or physical attack 8 ? Or i beat it, with fire attack 4 or physical attack 4 or ice attack 8?
Hey, thanks for these videos (: I have a question, I was playing this the other day, and an enemy had 7 attack, and an ability that gave him double attack, 14. I ended up with 11 wound cards in my hand if I'm not wrong. Am I supposed to keep them and rest until I have less than 5 wound cards in my hand? Or else, until the end of the round I guess?
This is not the way to work out wounds. You reduce the attack by your armour, and take 1 wound each time you do so. e.g. if your armour is 4 then you would take 1 wound, reduce 14 to 10, take a wound, reduce 10 to 6, take a wound, reduce 6 to 2, take a wound, reduce 2 to zero - so 4 wounds in total
Does the night time phase get triggered only by the dummy player playing solo when the deed deck runs out and the levelling up just work when the hero deed deck runs out?
No, a round (i.e. one day or one night) can be ended by either dummy or the player. Levelling up is done at the end of a TURN, not the end of a Round, so you can level up in the middle of a round (i.e. during the end of a turn at any point in a a day or night), or indeed many times during the round.
Why you just got 3 Wound Crads in your fight against the werewolf? The werewolf deals 14 damage (because of its special ability) so you have to take 5 Wound Cards which is as high as your hand card limit so you get knock-out.
Hi BKone. The werewolf doesn't deal 14 damage. It take 14 to block (because of "swiftness") but it still only deals 7 damage if left unblocked. Hope this helps ! Best wishes, Rick
Hi, because UNITS do not follow you down into a Dungeon; if you check the reference card at 06:10 you will see that units cannot be used for this combat. Hope this helps! RR>

Official rule for artifacts : draw the number you won + 1 and choose the one you want to keep - Very good video; Very helpful.
3:32 Forgot to take -1 Reputation for charging that Threaten card :P By the way thanks a million for these videos. I just picked up the game and watching your vids to supplement the rule book is helping a lot.

It's all or nothing I'm afraid. If your arrows miss (i.e. do not exceed the defender's armour) then they do no damage.
I know that this is a very old video but I would still like to ask why you could not use swiftness on the werewolf and boost it with two of your cards to kill it
I was wondering the same thing. Seems like it would have been better than taking all those wounds.

MrIgor20011 completely reset. All you have done is blocked your enemy's swing of the sword... until next time !
Ricky Royal Thanks again!
couldn't you use swiftness' range attack + some sideways to shoot the werewolf?

You used that same spell during the night turn in the last video, so can you use either spell on the card regardless of time of day?
The skill Attack +2 is colored Black. Does that mean it is only good at night?

Ricky Royal oh, duh. Thanks a lot (:
Andres TheJeff hope this helps! You were giving yourself a hard time ;)
thanks MC !!
it seems to be at 3:25 of this video, threaten, but you corrected yourself in part 8 :)
Do the monsters on the board ever get to move in later scenarios? Or is it always YOU engaging the enemies?
Quick question: were you supposed to acquire an extra skill at the end of the video for your level-up?
The level-up bonuses alternate between (a) new skill & new advanced card and (b) new Level Token, so not this time. Hope this helps!
@@BoxofDelights now i understand thanks Ricky
If you fail to kill the monster in the dungeon do you go through the whole process again?
exactly right ;)
@@BoxofDelights Great that's back into the dungeon to surprise the werewolf again! cant I just throw rocks in?

Hi BKone. The werewolf doesn't deal 14 damage. It take 14 to block (because of "swiftness") but it still only deals 7 damage if left unblocked. Hope this helps ! Best wishes, Rick
Aaaah, thank you for the fast answer. Now I understand ;) Btw: well done video series!
Why couldn't you assign damage to units against werewolf to reduce wounds put in hand/assigned all to.hero?
Hi, because UNITS do not follow you down into a Dungeon; if you check the reference card at 06:10 you will see that units cannot be used for this combat. Hope this helps! RR>

I believe at the end of night you forgot to take a reputation away
Do you turn over Skills every Turn or every Round?
@ 11:24 Sooooo you mean like maybe a Werewolf? :D Right then, I'll go throw myself off a cliff now.....
Mathematically it looks the same :)
so why wouldnt the werewolf attack him for 14 with the switftness. He only did 7 damage.
swiftness only applies to Block, not Attack and Damage.
Have another like :-)

you do realize you intimidated MONKS to join you right? :D
