  • This is a self built peat harvester/Turf cutting machine. It is self loading, as seen in the video, the cleaner removes the top layer of vegetation, where a series of buckets harvest the peat from the bank, loading into a macerator, which mixes the peat and extrudes onto a conveyor at the ear of the machine, this is ejected off the conveyor in lines approx 40ft in length, the process is repeated for the desired distance/run of the bog.
The machine is powered by a Deutz V8 air cooled engine, which powers the hydraulics for the tracks, cleaner, spreader, digger etc.
    Video taken in Galway Ireland.

Thanks John, have a few more must get them up, we recently finished a turning machine which turns the turf for drying, and arranges it in rows for loading. Will have to get a video together of that.

You can tell a lot of thought went into it.
The auger to clear the sod off the top is pretty clever. I have seen similar augers used with utility trenchers to push spoil away from the trench. Very nice.

Hi Nikola, peat is harvested and dried to use for burning/fuel for heating of homes. This one is in Ireland where peat harvesting or turf cutting is a tradition where oil etc was not readily available.
