Coronation will always be the best steam loco in my mind.

The correct phrase is "topped out" for when you reach the peak.

The glitches made me laugh. I think it's something to do with the cold weather outside, or maybe there might be a loose connection somewhere. It has been snowing, so if you experienced a snowfall, that might be one of the causes. Make sure your computer isn't overheating.

      Yes Post War speed record.

The GWR never publicised City of Truro's feat. Did they not believe the timings too? Or did they not like the idea of publicising excessive speed?

Hi Neil, its interesting to consider why and its certainly sparked a lot of debate over the years. Potentially we have this to thank for the locomotives survival so its no bad thing - Dave

@@HattonsModelRailways the history of its preservation is worthy of a video by itself. The GWR didn't want to preserve it themselves on cost grounds, although Collett did and got the board to allow it to be preserved at the LNER's museum at York arriving there in early Spring 1931. During the war years it was hidden near Kelso, just as well as the site of the old LNER museum was near to York station and steam sheds, which were bombed. The NER was one of the founding fathers of railway museums in the UK, another subject worthy of a video. Most railways did perservesome locomotives and rolling stock but later changed their minds and scrapped them.

Sometimes these things happen with technology despite checking everything before going live :-) Thanks for watching, Neil.

What I noticed a couple of years back was a channel on TH-cam which claimed American duplex t-1 and s-1 were capable of 150 mph and in any case more than 126mph.

However no comments allowed which is a bit of a give away. Do you notice that news channels presenting controversial ideas always turn comments off.
Having said that the American locos do look bigger, more impressive and fast. I think there is a plan to rebuild a t-1 so we shall see.

I believe that the problems with the T1 and S1 were the same with City of Truro, where the max speed wasnt calculated professionally with a dynamometercar but by measuring the time it took to reach a certain distance with the conclusion being that it had to drive a certain speed to get there (using the well known 'distance = velocity * time' formula) although I might be wrong with that. I personally believe that it is very much possible. Nearly twice as much power as an A4, and more driving wheels with the same size as the A4's. I do hope that they are able to get the T1 replica running. We need as much steam on the line as we can get.

@@treinenliefde - I agree with you. I think someone calculated that with the power available with City of Truro it would be very unlikely that the City of Truro could have achieved its 100mph speed. The US locos should in theory be able to go faster, I expect that to be proved later.
