I was in my teens when this song came out. I was a little punk metal head and I didnt give it the respect it deserved. Fast forward to 2020, I'm 48,Im still somewhat of a metalhead, and I feel every word and note of this magnificent song.
Deep much respect bro what's your choice metal? I like the most of everything except like satanic metal I appreciate a band from Australia named parkway drive
Parkway drive ain't bad I been listening them since I was 15 ish , I listen to cattle decap, goatwhore, death, six feet under, cannibal corpse, Vader, ect but also some metal core parkway, suicide silence, miss may I, killswitch engage, a bitchen new band on nuclear blast records is a band called Aenimus, plus all the good old rock n roll with soul
My mother and father both passed within months of each other.. it's been 12 years now.. I'm 42, and if it wasn't for them I'd never know what real music is.. music that comes from the heart, from your soul.. music that no matter how bad things are, it makes everything better.. even if only for 6 minutes... I love you mom and dad. I still think of y'all everyday....!!!
Jerry's lead on this is incredible and the dynamics and the melody show just how great a musician he was. Talent like this will always be missed. RIP Jerry.
Pirate Labs everything Jerry did was incredible. Easily one of the best guitarist of all time and he gets overlooked all the time. The entire band for that matter, and it’s a shame that their massive fan base has almost turned the dead into a gimmick
In my 20's i dropped acid right before a dead concert and when this argument behind us on a hill began i heard someone yell "it's either black or white their is no greay in my world" about that same time the dead broke out in this song and blew my mind. The karma kicked it and it all made sincerely the best thing that brought peace and balance to the force
Funny thing is when this song came out I was senior in high school. Now I'll turn fifty this year and I have more than a little grey in my beard and hair! I have gotten by and I will survive! God bless everyone here.
Bless you. I'll be turning 59 in a couple of months and I try to start my day by listening to this and Truckin. Always a good combination to wake up to❤🙏
my parents split the summer this song came out, I saw the GD several times on this tour, I'm 54 now but " Touch of Grey" is still bittersweet, none the less i listen. Carry on my friends!
My 28 year old son Overdose in 2022 April. Touch of Grey is his favorite song. I listen to it several times a day, it makes me feel awesome. I feel a connection with my 👶 boy 👦 💙 💕
I DID survive.... I wasn't supposed to live through Acute Respiratory Distress, was on a ventilator for three months, with a tracheotomy and a feeding tube, back in 2010. I'm more than grateful ( pun intended) for everyone who got me through it. To anyone going through hard times, you can survive too. Just keep it positive.
I was never a Grateful Dead fan, i was watching a PBS station showing a movie " The Music Never Stopped" . When you hear this song at the ending, you'll cry. So poignant! Great movie, great song!!
Celebrating 61 amazingly weird years here on this 3rd stone from the Sun and listening to Track I never really dug until now as I am that old man still grooving to GD and Rock n Roll. And hopefully surviving this pandemic.
I woke up in recovery in 1983 after having cancer tumors removed. I was in Colorado, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center. Yes, I was in the Army. This song was on the radio that was piped into the recovery .. I had never heard this song . I turn 62 this year. I did survive.
"I know the rent is in arrears. The dog has not been fed in years. It's even worse that it appears, but it's alright. Cow's giving kerosene. Kid can't read at 17. The words he know are all obscene, but it's alright" - best lyrics ever.
The Grateful DEAD get me through my day every day. I saw 383 shows. I battle with bi-polar disorder and manic depression and ADHD. I'M DISABLED I have stenosis , bulging and herniated discs and degenerative disc disease and nerve damage all through out my spine. Some days I don't want to live but I'll put on a DEAD show I recorded and it seems like I'm right there at the show. So there music and memories keep me going. I go to as many DEAD AND COMPANY SHOWS that I can. Being on social security Disability doesn't leave me much money after I pay my rent. But I keep on TRUCKING
This song goes out to my ex-wife Juana. And thanks to the late great Jerry Garcia for bringing me spiritual guidance in this very bizarre but interesting chapter of my life.. God bless you!
My ex-husband died. This is the first song I thought of. He would've laughed. He was a jazz guy but I was a psychedelia-loving wannabe hippie born in '61.
Brings back memories of summer 1987, when this was first released,I was just out of high school. And thanks for, posting the lyrics,I could never get them anytime I'd hear this song.
Today's April 3, 2020! CORONA VIRUS (Covid-19) is picking us off one by one. I declare this our theme song because "I/We will get by, I/We will survive!" We are in this together people, hope is all we have now. Bless you.
I once knew a stripper, who was a victim of domestic violence. She would dance to this song. I will always remember her and the impact this song made on me!

As I always say about “pleasantly silly” songs like this one, I put this right up there with equally silly “Phantom of Love” from (1970s) Electric Company, sung by Phyllis and the Pharaohs(Rita Moreno as lead singer Phyllis and Morgan Freeman, Skip Hinnant, Jim Boyd and Luis Avalos as the backup quartet of the Pharaohs, sung during a part of the show teaching digraph “ph.”) Just hearing this one, also is enough for me to see in my mind’s eye what looks like Short Circus members Kathy or Allison wearing her hair fixed up and possibly Buddy sitting in the front row, applauding as this begins(as that’s what it looks like as Phantom of Love begins on the Electric Company.)
I was working in Richmond Va. when this album came out, missing my family back in Ft. Worth Texas terribly. Bitter sweet memories made a little easier with music. Paul Simon's "Graceland" was new then, too
I used to think the lyric was, "I know the rabbit is in our rears"- LOL!! I figured maybe a pesky rabbit kept getting into the garden and eating all the food, hell, I don't know. But, I still sing that!!- LOL

My mom loved this song and now it will forever be a memorial song.
This song helps me through tough times. I absolutely love this song.

Typo? Touch of Grey wasn't released until 1987. Either way, glad you survived, and thank you for your service.
@Doug Richardson Yeah, don't think they'd be piping a college radio station into the recovery room at an army base. But it's a good story.
