- Throughout his remarkably long and successful pop career, singer-songwriter Paul Simon has also impressed the world with his comedic talents. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the musician frequently appeared on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and his relationship with the show reaches its apex on this fantastic 1977 television special, which Simon wrote with legendary SNL producer Lorne Michaels. A send-up of the backstage experience, THE PAUL SIMON SPECIAL stars Charles Grodin as a hilarious producer and Lily Tomlin and Chevy Chase as themselves. In addition, Paul plays some of his hits, including collaborations with his old partner, Art Garfunkel.

i once asked Toots to play on one of my tracks and a rep of his actually replied, declining due to health and family but seeing this makes me feel like he said yes.
Jessy Dixon and his singers with Paul.
Oh Paul Simon...
Now this is music!
I really like this version. I prefer this slower and more laid back version.
He's such a dreamboat, such a dish. I love him so much oh my gosh.
Paul Simon or Chevy?
you must be very old lol
One thing I love about SNL in the early days is that this wasn't even a special; It was just SNL doing random shit and finding its niche.
Ummmm this was a PAUL SIMON special NOT SNL...
is that Toots Thielemans?
Joan of Arc is Shelley Duvall!
Paul Simon is the best musician I've ever heard.
Please let me say it how I meant it..... PAUL SIMON IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST AND ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE MUSICIANS WHOM I HAVE EVER HEARD.
I think he is terrific 😀 and I always have. Ta daaaa.
@weirdguy75 i think 5'4 but chevy chase is also really tall
Hey, you 11- and 12-year-olds, height means nothing. It's what you do in life that's important!
I never knew that Larry King player the harmonica, let alone that he was so accomplished on it.
may he rest in pieces
That's the very famous Toots Thielemanns
how short is paul?
I'm 6 years late but Im pretty sure he's 5' 3"
A little over 4 foot.
he's 5'2 (160cm)
He’s such a smol bean
ridiculous to the sublime.
How the heck has chevy chase survived so long?
He’s as funny as a train wreck.
but can you (and ZurpCow) sing as well as him ??? I think you don't...
Shelley Duvall 1:30?
Toots Thielemanns playing harmonica on this is an extra treat!
Love Jessy Dixon always. RIP dear Jessy.
I didn't know Jessy Dixon died.
it'S SO GREAT THAT yOU SHARED THIS, THANKS A LOT!!!
Very nice!
Amo la música de Simon desde niño. Si a eso le sumas a Thielemans y le añades a los Jessy Dixon Singers, el resultado es algo asombroso. Otra lección de buen gusto en estos aciagos años
C'est vraiment bon !
@whatsithair Yes! For others, he's the harmonica player.
Who's the tool at the end of the video?
Logjam5 no shit.
That's Charles Grodin. He was playing the producer of the special, a comedic character. He appears throughout. Quite brilliant, actually.
4:24 instrument abuse!
