The fact that you and Reef Dork know each other and are friends is happiness for me haha. You're both super awesome!
Also thank you for advocating for your fishies, I feel like too many people treat them as throwaway pets when marine fish are quite intelligent and can live a long time!!❤
Really enjoying this series so far. Fair play Ryan for showing the bad as well as the good. In my opinion it will take a bigger man to show the bad side of a situation as opposed to hiding them and pretending everything is okay. With your copper theory, I do know certain animals will mask their weakness when feeding poorly. So not to show weakness for potential predators. Potentially that’s what the fish might have been doing. Even though it seemed okay it was not doing as well as it seemed. Obviously, no facts here, that’s just a theory of mine. Looking forward to seeing how the series progresses over the upcoming days.
💯
Copper causes permanent metabolic damage in fish in cases of prolonged exposure. There’s a decent amount of literature on the subject if you want to plow through research papers. Matches fairly well to what you are seeing. A friend of mine is a veterinarian who specializes in fish and has done tons of experiments on the subject also confirms this to be the case.
Chloroquine phosphate is generally a much better option for ich, velvet and I believe it also effective towards uroneama. However, some fish are very sensitive to it so be careful.
I think these videos are important; sometimes the impression given is that fish are disposable items especially if they are two a penny and they clearly aren't. Rooting for the Flame Angel.
Love this series!
I used the tank transfer method on my flame angel when I had an ich outbreak very successfully. It's going on 6 years later and he is doing great!
I think it’s all down to the certain fish, stress is all on the fish and what it thinks is scary or a threat, my flame angel is such a brat and got some parasite issues in her mouth when I had her in a tank with another angel but now she’s the only angel in my 210 and doing amazing chases other small fish but never has any stress issues. It’s all down to the fish and how comfortable they are! 😂
Did you treat your flame angel with copper?
I'd definitely have a look into microbial gut bacteria within wild tangs. I presume it would be the same for many other species of fish that graze the reefs. Treatments and "dry rock" can impact the available populations of these beneficial gut bacteria, and this can impact digestive processes and overall health of grazing fish.
Copper is hard on fish; especially small angelfish. Dr Reef’s Quarantined Fish, for example, does not use copper on tiny angelfish.
I still remember, When I properly cried for my Lionfish, in my 24 Years of Hobby never QT the fish, and face white spots etc only once, even that was last year. after that all is stable.
I have never had success with flame angels. Coral beauty is 14 years old in my reef. Lovely fish but I won’t try another 😪
For angelfish if it's not doing so well or not eating. I've found live blackworms and clams seem to do the trick to get them eating again.
I would try some flake food if he goes for the nori!
Have you considered putting the whole tank into hyposalinity? I've done it twice now due to ongoing issues with fish getting sick one by one
🤞🤞🤞
How did you aquire the tiger angel?
So since dwarf angels are all born female does that translate with the large angels or no? do they change sex like clownfish do? And dwarf angels?
Any reason why dont do the tank transfer method? Much easier on the fish in my experience
Do you have UV in your tank?
