Spelling things correctly isn't the most important thing in the world, but it's important to have standards. For people who use non-verbal language, Spelling is an important standard to have. Plus, it's so easy to double-check it, it's inexcusable and even inexplicable to ever get it wrong. Your computer even fixes it for you most of the time, and when it can't, it usually highlights the anomalous word so you can give it another look before you quit for the night.
