    Looks like a great heater to put a small woodstove fan on top and really distribute the heat.

    Great review as usual but you neglected to mention a very important issue. Butane doesn’t like to ignite in temperatures below 40 degrees and absolutely won’t ignite below 32 degrees. This is one of the big reasons it was abandoned for use in homes and trailers many decades ago. I use a couple of one burner Butane stoves when I take my cargo trailer on trips and was careless about keeping the heater on at night one trip. I slipped 2 of the Butane bottles inside my parka and in about 20 minutes I was able to get the coffee going.

      I have found with my cupid stove , when the temps are low . Always start off with a new full can of fuel . If the can was like a half empty from the night before it would not light . Pop in a new bottle and it would go . Once things had warmed up some you could use up the other can .

      I can't help but wonder how effective a passive thermo-electric woodstove fan would be.

      His Kovea heater was working on his last trip when it was cold.

      The Kovea alwasy is heating up the canister a little bit with its own heat. So you just need to pre-heat it with your bare hands and then start the Kovea. It then keeps the canister above 0 ℃. The Naturehike looks very similar so it may be do the same.

      Some of those canisters are isobutane which will work a bit better (available in Europe/UK I’m not sure about the USA.

    To me, it looks like a great product. And the fact that I am most impressed with is when you regulate the heat so you can get more maximum time out of a can of butane. That is a big thing with me. Granted you have to keep the butane warm, but I never have a problem with that. Cool review, man.

    They should sell a heat shield for the sides to force heat upward

    You forgot one point: The Kovea is much more expensive than the Naturehike. Costwise the Naturehike is a bargain and has a simmer feature, too.

    For less money, we can get a larger BTU heater (that can easily be modified to cook on) & runs on more reliable propane.

    Wow, I like it too. It could even be used in the house when the electricity goes out during a storm. There's nothing worse than below zero outside and no heat inside.

    I don’t know if i like the open sides for confined spaces. It would be nice if they had metal covers that could close those vents or spin out of the way if someone does want the side heat

  • @Buffenmeyer
    @Buffenmeyer 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Looks like it could be possible to drill out the middle rivets on the top and relocate the handle more toward the center - it would be more balanced when carrying. Also I wonder if a larger wire rack could be used in front instead of the metal plate. Probably another easy mod.

    There are so many constructive observations that would certainly improve the product. Makes you wonder why Naturehike didn't send a beta version to experienced campers like Luke for feedback...b4 going into production. Nice review Luke 😊

    As a stove, I would wonder how bad things would get inside the heater if there's a boil-over, and stuff falls into the mechanism.

    Butane more expensive than propane

  • @HabaneroTi
    @HabaneroTi 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    I wonder how well it performs when you most need it, in sub-freezing temps, given that butane doesn't do well at such temps. If you pre-warm the butane cannister by keeping it in your jacket, will it ignite, and so long as it keeps running and it's used inside a tent, vehicle, cabin or other enclosed space to keep it above freezing, will it keep on working? I'm intrigued by the idea of winter camping but there's no way that I'd do it without some way of keeping the tent reasonably warm all night, and this seems like a lightweight way to do that.

    Is there any way to connect this heater to propane?

    • @RichGallant
      @RichGallant 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yes you need an adaptor hose and adjustable valve, Propane is much higher pressure out of the tank. So you crack the valve less than a 1/4 turn to run the heater. Or use a hand warmer to warm the butane.

    "A ton of heat" ??? You'd need 5 of the to equal 1- 18k heat hawg or Mr heater and it's only $30 less. Think you're making it out to be more than it is.

    • @mikes8948
      @mikes8948 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      An 18k heater doesn't have a low enough setting or size for a smaller tent. Unless you're "garage camping," your statement doesn't apply.
