EA Apex Legends - so client-side anti-cheat is as dumb as client-side password verification for your email service: you cannot trust your code after it was deployed on a user-programmable device. The obvious next step for Linux gamers is to develop a cheat that worksaround Apex Legends "no Linux" check.
Yes, that's great, and I would love to see Valve offer the same kind of hosting and Anti-Cheat service to other companies so that people just do server-side anti-cheat with no kernel-level anti-cheat involved. Unfortunately, either it's not ready yet or not being promoted correctly to other companies that they feel like going kernel level with custom or other company's anti-cheat is worth it to them.
Yes Tuxedo keep KDE and KDE apps updated from Neon repo. They also do quality assurance test before shipping anything, that's why they haven't shipped KDE 6.2 yet because there were some known bugs. It's my favourite distro for this reason, because it's kind of provide best of everything.
I don't disagree that the Apex Legend change is lame and would see some more solid data, but I think it is being obtuse to not see that they meant there is too small amount of _legitimate_ paying Linux users in comparison to cheating activities done exploiting the Linux version. It's never tens of thousands who cheats in a game, just a fraction of a percentage probably, but that can have outsize impact on legitimate users, especially those who have the money to pay for stuff and thus either don't have the patience or time to endure cheating (whether people ARE cheating or there's enough cheaters they doubted their losses were fair). If even ten whales didn't feel like playing the game that week, that's likely hundreds of thousands of dollars they're missing out on. The problem is the scale, not that they don't want to support Linux. They already have it running, and 20 dollars is 20 dollars regardless of where it comes from, but it's not worth it if even a single of their 2000 dollars customer didn't play the game that week.
I understand that but my point was it’s not K9 anymore so the version number could be 1.0 now. At the same time though, version numbers are arbitrary so it doesn’t really matter
@michael_tunnell It could be! Version numbers are indeed arbitrary... It is just that I thought that was the case. Sorry if my comment came out aggressive... I didn't mean that tone with it.
You’re probably right, I was just really giving them a hard time as the release notes were a bit scattered and saying first release being an 8.0 without explaining it is going to confuse new users. It’s also not a big deal for sure. By the way, I didn’t take your comment as aggressive, all good. Tone is hard to pin down in text
@@michael_tunnell I mean... K9 mail continues to be k9 mail... It is more that thunderbird is a thunderbird themed k9 mail client. Both projects are from the same repository.
EA felt the need to spank some users and felt the least risky way to do it was to target the Linux community as their example rather than the other OS.
Honestly, I just wish TUXEDO OS supported secure boot, at least on their own hardware. They are the ones making their laptops, it seems strange to not have it out of the box on those machines. Using Ubuntu instead partly because of that.
Isn't it technically true that EA and Steam are rivals in the game shop business now? Could it be that EA does not want to run theit stuff on Steam Deck for that reason?
I upgraded from Fedora 40 to 41 (fresh install) and experienced a keyring quagmire. Assuming this was a gnome 47 thing, I moved to CachyOS. A seasoned Linux guy would have managed the issue but I took the path of least resistance. Fedora 39 and 40 were really good... perfect really. UPDATE: This is a take on the Apex Linux cheat situation that seems credible--- th-cam.com/video/_QH80AwiAUU/w-d-xo.html
Titus' take gives EA credit for giving data about Linux cheaters but that anti-cheat post on their website doesnt even mention the word "Linux" at all, they provided no data for Linux cheating whatsoever. He found some forums talking about stuff and maybe its possible but the take is bad in my opinion because they have every right to not care about the platform but if they claim Linux hurts them they better provide proof of it and they didnt so I stand by my calling them out.
Regarding the "contradiction" at 25:42 , if a small number of linux players (i.e. corporate speech for "cheater") can "infect" a large number of games: I assume that, out of all players within a match there needs to be only one cheater to ruin the fun for all others. Regarding the intention: I have the impression that, since they are a corporation, they have to do *something,* it does not have be effective, just *something.* Linux players are a small fraction (and I would guess, that Linux players are also less likely to fall for their "micro-transactions"-scheme, but I have no evidence to prove that), so, by blocking them they have done *something* and they assume it to be cheap. I know, it is also not effective, but, as said, that does not actually matter in a corporate decisions making process, because it is practically impossible to prove in court that they knew better, thus, effectiveness is no consideration for someone who just intends to cover his a$$.
I'm glad I never got into stuff like apex bc screw them. Whenever I do have money I'll stick to indie where possible. They're not as uptight and just downright stupid, idc the justification it's not based in reality 😢 Also thunderbird is supposed to be in fdroid rn but I can't find it and idk why
Yup, Fedora WS is without X... I ws really looking forward to Thunderbird for Andrdoid, unfortunately there are some stuff which are a bummer for me, although they have a very good reason for that, like deleting a mail from lock screen without unlocking the phone. So, I am sticking with Fair Email for now, which is also FOSS (apparently) and much better and more polished than both TB & K9 Mail..
They state on their website that it is based on Kubuntu so I would assume that they do a combo thing where the main base is Kubuntu and then pulls in extras from neon
I dont know what it is really because their website isnt that clear about it but they say "What distinguishes TUXEDO OS in detail from its base Ubuntu / Kubuntu" on this page www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/TUXEDO-OS_1.tuxedo
k9 was a decent and trusted mail client active for 10+ years. I felt very sad when I first heard they bowed to Mozilla Corp. I'd rather have k9 on desktop than Thunderbird on a phone.
Ptyxis is pronounced "tick-sis", but in Fedora it's just "Terminal". 😄
Thanks Jorge! You're the best! Universal Blue is Awesome!

I hate Dota for a lot of toxicities, but at least they have a better way to block these cheaters, and still support linux natively.

OK, lets see how many cheats will still be detected in Apex
Oh that's very legendary of you!!!!!!!!!!!
1:50 *miracle window manager iirc it's not a full DE
That’s correct, I misspoke at the time and didn’t catch it. My bad

Just need to verify... Yep, check, and... check.
Certified: EA is being lame.
Also responsive design for thunderbird desktop Please :D
15:13 it is 8.0 because it is based on k9 mail and 8.0 is the new version of k9 mail

They both still exist? Well that’s an odd thing to do

Microsoft is in one bed with EA trying to pull Linux users back to windows
Finally thunderbird on my phone ❤🎉
Thanks for the news!!
the first time i have heard Gnome pronounced correctly!!! ⭐️
Thunderbird for Android is Based on K9Mail, so I guess ths is the reason for the 8.0 version
let's ban Apex Legends

the first Thunderbird for Android is 8.0 becouse K9 Mail was on 7.0
I've been using Pop for a few years not, so I'm really looking forward to Cosmic when its stable and released.
So glad I'm not a gamer!😁😅🤗

Yup but you can still get the X based spins which is nice.
Tuxedo OS is based on KDE Neon.

I don't know why my comments are being deleted, but I'm just saying that Tuxedo doesn't use Neon, or kubuntu, it's just Ubuntu LTS with Plasma.
I don't run GUIs on my Pis :-) (of course, haven't bought a 5 yet, so no NVMEs)
Bro where in the world are you located? Here in NA your video got published at 10pm (real gangsta hours). Youll get less views around this time.
He might be based in Hawaii
No such thing as bad press. Ban Linux gamers for cheating, Linux gamers = badass rebels of gaming. 😂
First xd

thunderbird is such crap. i was forced to evolution and i am quite happy with it...
