    Paizo is excellent at making interesting and weird monsters

    The renaming of the golems, which has resulted in them being scattered, should only be an issue if you’re converting an adventure/setting from OGL. It seems that they are now essentially individual monsters rather than a category any longer.

    A change I was hoping to see in the video is the banshee being fey instead of undead. The banshee, originally spelled bean si, litteraly mean fairy woman.
    Edit: Regarding kobolds, we now have a lore-wise explaination of how they can be born as geniekin or even nephilims, without having a direct ancestor.

      Oh, gosh, you’re right about the banshee. Never thought about that.

    Good vid, boss.
    Personally I haven't played Path2e yet, but narrating 1e was really fun, and looking at this monster rulebook I feel there are even more creatures with unique mechanics than the first one

    I'm definitely picking it up. Coming from decades of playing D&D (from the red-box days) a big plus for me with this book is having it veer away from the standard D&D abilities and mythos so I can actually throw something at the group that will surprise them. And the dragons really do look great.

    Got my sketch cover hardcopy in the other day! Loving P2E!

    I think the renaming of the Golem was due to the term "Golem" being ancient hebrew - the original Golem of Prague was created by a rabbi trying to protect his flock from oppressors - and there is no such thing as jewish people OR Prague in Golarion. Unless, of course, dimension hopping shenanigans and all that happen.

    Exciting! Does anyone know if a pocket edition is planned? Pathfinder 2e Remaster is not my primary game, so it is hard to justify full price….but I really prefer physical books over pdfs when possible

    Wonder how close The monster's in the book are compared to the video game 😊

    The Kobolds are so much better now imo. A guideline how to create your own fitting kobold really seems like an overlook considering that pathfinder2e always has such templates usually so it really seems weird.

    • @zachariahmerry2396
      @zachariahmerry2396 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really, pretty much the only stuff which ever get "how to make your own" are things like ghouls, vampires, liches, werefolk, or other stuff which have a "base" form w/ the "how to make your own" being a template more than anything. Things like kobolds have always just kind of... were as they were. That said, things like gnomes, halflings, kholo, kobolds, hobgoblin, ect. also have player options so if you really wanted to make your own NPCs, just take features from that and you should be fine.

    Important to keep in mind that creature statblocks ALWAYS listed modifiers, with actual specific scores being pretty much a PC-exclusive thing.

    help me with the monster grapple thing. They don't seem to have athletics skills. YEAH CREATURES by TERRIAN and LEVEL would be great.

    They remind me of the tooth fairies from Hellboy 2. Great addition.

    It's going to be confusing af once Monster Core 2 and 3 come out when we have Bestiary 1, 2, and 3 memorized!

    Will finish the video later, but I just wanted to let you know in the thumbnail there's a typo "Is it the remaster better?"

    With the new take on Dragons...
    ...Is there a Luck Dragon?
    ...and if not, why not? LOL

    • @coolboy9979
      @coolboy9979 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The new dragons are: Fortune, Mirage, Empyreal, Diabolic, Adamantine, Horned, OMen and Conspirator.
      So sadly not, but it seems like a cool idea. Thats what homebrew and PF2Es excellent creature builder rules are for

      Closest would be Omen Dragons, which seeing have all kinds of future-seeing abilities mechanically end up with luck manipulation as well.

    Does it come with a Foundry VTT module with all of the tokens, actors and automations?

    Maybe an obvious question but does this book make the previous monster 2e books obsolete?

    It's easy to love on a print + pdf product when you get it for free, but would you feel the same way if you had to pay $60 + shipping for print and another $20 for the pdf? So far 2024 has been the Year of the Flattened Wallet with all these new fantasy releases. I think reviews of any game book should be viewed with a very discerning eye.

    Creatures by terrain by lethality... why leave that out? Better be a PDF.
    Are we getting pawns?
    @3:15 Why would you need the GM Core to manage a Monster book?

  • @TacticusPrime

    Can't have too many kinds of dragons.

    For "returning" GMs: Unless you like to support paizo or just love to have books I just wouldnt buy it at all and just wait for it to be published for free on Archives of Nethys

    I'm sure it's a good book for PF players but.... ghouls that ponce about in Victorian finery? Shapeshifting dragons that masquerade as high society countesses? Not for me, monsters should be visceral, bestial, violent & animalistic - not dapper & conversational.

      @Badum- 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      In all fairness, the game already has a ton of horrifying aberrations and mindless beasts. They're mostly trying to make some of the more popular creatures more versatile for adventure authors.

    • @coolboy9979
      @coolboy9979 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats just lore stuff. Not something you have to do at all, or you can even just keep on using the old ghouls and dragons if you like, since they are nearly perfectly compatible with the remaster. The dragon shapefit seems also to be more unique to the Conspirator

      Well, sometimes the most dangerous monsters are the ones that can wear a mask of civility while doing monster stuff.... Then you can get that big boss fight in the middle of the ball room when you finally push them too far and they drop the mask to reveal the monster they truly are.... (Maleficent is a prime example of such a character.... and probably good inspiration for how you use your shape shifting dragon...) Have them throwing spells at the players from a safe distance while the minions try to hold them back until they're cornered and then.... go full dragon.
      As for the ghouls in Victorian finery, that just sounds like vampires that aren't on a liquid diet.... A well dressed monster is still a monster, and I doubt a ghouls victim is going to care much about the monsters attempts at polite conversation while they are being eaten alive....
