Gamble was on fire this episode, Larry Dean took to the show like fish to water, genuinely one of the stronger episodes of the show. I hope they use a similar line up more often.
I haven't been watching this show that long. I only started a couple of weeks ago. It's just beautiful to see, it's very entertaining to see how much they're growing
10 minutes in, and this is already one of the best episodes! Larry Dean is giving me some strong Billy Connelly vibes, from his accent to his material to his delivery!
I love watch Mock the week on TH-cam, I live in Australia and my goodness Dara just brightens my day. Actually they are all on Fire! Ed Gamble.. I do enjoy his accent.
When I was describing him to an American friend, I said he's kind of like an Irish Robin Williams. Just in terms of how lightning quick he can be, especially when you see him do crowd work at a show. In fact now I think about it, Dara's not had a special out since 2015, wtf...
And he's tech savvy enough he could probably make those gifs for you himself (the proper way that is, not just running a video clip through a website that plasters some stupid watermark on the end result).
Yeah, I usually find 'leprechaun' jokes lazy and unfunny (and racist), but he did leave himself open for that one with the choice of 'costume'. He was only missing a green hat, beard and a pipe.
@@scipioafricanus5871 I don't know it all - as I didn't really watch MtW years ago when this all must have started but Dara studied science (physics I think) in uni before going into comedy and will often get excited (and teased) about 'Science Things' on MtW. He and Brian Cox co-host Stargazing Live (or did? looks like it might have ended). It started in 2011, so that's likely when these jokes started too.
First time ever seeing Larry deans comedy and I really enjoyed him being on the show to be honest because usually I don’t really enjoy the new comedians that come on the show.
I happened upon Larry's comedy in a facebook video, and hadn't actually seen anything of his in a while until a couple days ago when I saw another episode he was on.
I love the cabbage bit at 4:27 so much, Angela was brilliant there and when Hugh joins in, his delivery is just perfect. And Larry, after that, wrapping it up, just great.
I'll tell you something: all of these Brit panel comedy shows are *heavily* scripted with moments of improv. Or did you think they were so pitch perfect on so many jokes by so many different comedians... or did you just think they are just naturally brilliant on their feet and the show has really really good editors? Hmmm, and what happens during stage rehearsals if it's not scripted?
@@lawjef Wow, you and your mates must all be really boring if you find it genuinely that difficult to believe that a group of people are capable of having a laugh together.
@@lawjef As someone else pointed out, you must be pretty boring if you’ve never had a conversation with your mates like this where your just competing to make each other laugh the most. But anyway who cares if it’s scripted, it’s still funny all the same. Not that I think it is. Tbh I’d probably be more impressed by their acting skills if they’re able to pull all this off than if they just turned out to be funny people. Maybe what you mean by scripted is what we all already know as obvious. In that through the week they probably think up funny jokes related to the current news since they can probably guess what’s going to be talked about.
@@jaymercer4692 Its possible to disagree with somebody without insulting them personally, you know. Even on YT. All British panel shows are scripted to some degree, some more, some less, and they're also edited quite a bit (occasionally comedians and staff talk about "behind the scenes", that's how I know). It's also indirectly obvious because Dara mentions "balance" that they're supposed to maintain. You can bet that balance is written into the script as well. The host's role is more scripted than anyone else's. And sometimes you can see that the panelists have notebooks, so they've clearly prepared some things. What scripting means in this context isn't that it's like a play where each line of dialogue is pre-written, but that there are outlines of what topics will be talked about in-depth and who'll do specific bits. Apparently comedians also have some input into that, if they want to present something in specific. I often recognize bits from the "Wheel of News" section as standard bits from comedians' own routines because I follow a lot of them outside of this show. That section is rarely improvised. I also think they know the subjects of "Scenes We'd Like to See" beforehand, but I have no evidence for that; it just feels that way to me. There is still some improv in there too though, because sometimes there are callbacks to something said earlier in the show. A lot of the banter, especially among the comedians who know each other well, that's spontaneous. Nobody needs to script the needling of Dara, and there are definitely whole runs of jokes that build up naturally, and yes, that's quite like a bunch of mates hanging out together, only with people who specialize in humour, so it's still funny even to outsiders. I like this show exactly as it is; if it weren't scripted and edited at all, there would be some dreadfully awkward times when a panelist doesn't gel (it still happens occasionally, but it's rare). Pure improv is impressive, yes, but it's a special skill, not every comedian is good at it. A really well-written zinger can be just as amazing in its own way.
Oh, he would be great! Has he ever been? Or he would be a bit peculiar in this studio. He hardly appears in comedy shows. He was cute in Travel Man coupla days ago though.
Angela was hitting it, Gamble was in a nice rhythm, Larry Dean was hilarious but that love story of Ed Byrne Dara and Brian Cox... so freaking funny hahaha great cast lineup.
My favourite Picture of the week was 'That is Theresa May, who is the Prime Minister of this country and Boris Johnson, who is the Foriegn Sectary of this country, sitting in chairs. '

As long as they keep Angela Barnes off.

Ed Gamble really has come into his own this year - he seems very at ease and confident.

Yeah but Larry won't ever punch his spouse.
Love the diabetic joke at 7:10. As a fellow type-1, we don't get many opportunities to laugh at ourselves. Nice one, Ed.
Mark Dawson-Smith YES
Ed is awesome, even better when it isn't a pun though I love those too.
Maybe you just need to work on developing a type-2 personality.

Ed always seems a bit upset 😊
The "Does this suit make me invisible?!" episode?
Ha ha, it is my favourite part of the episode
What episode what is it?
Love when the panel interacts, rather than trying to monopolize the show.......great group.
One of the best episodes of Mock The Week for a while.
Ed Byrne is dressed so Irish, he practically has a leprechaun outfit on.
He looks like a cowboy!

Nice to hear a person say that about an openly gay man's comedy here. They usually call the gay man the token gay man
Look up his performance on Roast Battle .. its even better
Kerry Godliman was brilliant and enjoyed Larry too. Best episode for quite a while
One of my favorite shows. Thanks for letting me watch because I'm in the US, Las Vegas Nevada, and nothing ever happens here.
Aliens?
Mass shootings ?
Ed's usage of Uranus was quality here. 10/10 would watch again
The timing and delivery were perfect XD
Dara really missed a trick by not referring to the group with two Eds as "Ed, Ed and Kerry".
