The 2 guests in this episode are grand opera dames Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne. Wonderful talent and very humble to do this great 3 pigs opera skit. Very creative - right up there with the shows Steve Martin beach blanket surfer movie spoof!
Farrell had one of the biggest voices of the last century; it poured out of her like a tsunami. And then she could turn around and sing the sexiest jazz you ever heard.
What hams! (Pardon the pun, I couldn't resist. 😁) As others have said, this is a wonderful sketch. The quality of talent and writing and everything else is fantastic!
That's Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne in support, but not slumming it. Carol Burnett is just as class an act in her sphere and what she has created here is magnificent
Hilarious. Not only were Marilyn Horne and Eileen Farell tremendously versatile singers, they had great comedic timing and aren't out of place with this great cast at all.
As an colortura opera singer i love this so much! And love singing along. I grew up with Carol and opera and taught myself to sing. Very catchy like opera is too. 🎉❤❤
I was living at 648 W. Belden, Chicago with guys from the Chicago Conservatory. That had to be 1968-9. Looked for years for this. GREAT!!! Just as I remembered it.
Side notes: in the movie "Carmen Jones", Marilyn Horne provided Dorothy Dandridge's singing voice. In the movie "Interrupted Melody", based on the life of soprano Marjorie Lawrence, Eileen Farrell provided the singing voice for Eleanor Parker.
@@sha11235 Probably. But estates are much more litigious and protective these days. Then again, Rodgers was still alive then. If it was West Side Story, the Bernstein estate would've shut it down so fast your head would spin.
The only real variety comedy show still on is NBC's SNL and it depends on the talent of the cast members and writers. The guest stars I think use SNL as a way of self promoting their careers similar to how some country music artists whom perform on the Grand Ole Opry are promoting their albums. But on variety shows of the 20th century was based on talent and quality and they weren't rushed like sometimes you see on SNL . Variety shows back in the 20th century were live and live means mistakes might happen and you have to roll with the direction. Sometimes guest stars are only really there for their opening monologue at the beginning. And on Carol Burnett they always had time in most episodes to ask questions to the host or others whereas on SNL they don't ask questions. Plus Carol Burnett wasn't overly political even if she was playing a first lady. On SNL the audience suspects a political opener or current satire.
Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne appeared with Carol in 1971 on this show in "Chinderella" and were slated to appear again but that didn't work out. "Chinderella" is on TH-cam...❤
Yes! Well I can't blame Eileen Farrell too much, I guess. She was raised in a very religious, conservative household and then married a policeman who was conservative and even carried a gun in their house!

I thought one of them was Marilyn Horn
I think this was one of those shows, like The Muppets, that a lot of truly talented people were really happy to be in.
I knew they must be opera stars.
Thanks for confirmed Farrell and Horne. Yes, very clever and funny and quite removed from the typical operatic grandiosity!
I don't remember this skit at all. It was nice to see two of the finest singers in history team-up with Carol. I loved it.
I don't either, and I thought I watched every show!
I've never seen this one before either
My first time for me
@@manuelorozco7760 Must've been from the earlier seasons.
@@sha11235 Perhaps
This is the best opera parody ever, love this clip.
And it's so well sung - Harvey's coloratura is terrific!
They did another one, "Chinderella" in 1971 and guess who "Chinderella" was...lol! ❤ It is on TH-cam...
Well, there is the chaos of the one Ernie Kovacs did.

Farrell had one of the biggest voices of the last century; it poured out of her like a tsunami. And then she could turn around and sing the sexiest jazz you ever heard.
She was described in the press as having a voice "like some unparalleled phenomenon of nature. She is to singers what Niagara is to waterfalls."
What hams! (Pardon the pun, I couldn't resist. 😁)
As others have said, this is a wonderful sketch. The quality of talent and writing and everything else is fantastic!
not to mention the brilliant scoring...
Lots of good throwaway lines.
“Why isn’t every opera performance like this” lol Most comic operas are EXACTLY like this. Ridiculous, over the top, tongue-in-cheek, and hilarious. 😆
Wow, another hilarious skit from the Carol Burnett Show!!! Pure television gold!!! 👍👍
I love that joke, "I didn't know you were expecting."
Can I just say watching this I'm thinking this is the best 3 Pigs adaptation I've ever seen and it is right in the tradition of Gilbert and Sullivan.
These three women had amazing senses of humor.
Let's not forget the great Harvey Korman, who has a pretty good voice too, and is as always hilarious.

This is so funny and I love Carol Burnett and I’m an Opera lover as well the voices are quite good I wonder Who composed the music

That's my favorite performance, I really love this
Never saw this one before! Lightens my mood extremely well!!!
I never been to an opera before. But this is too hysterical and flamboyant. Especially with Harvey as the Wolf
That is so hilarious.
GENIUS!!!
This is the cutest thing EVER!!!
Side notes: in the movie "Carmen Jones", Marilyn Horne provided Dorothy Dandridge's singing voice.

I thought this would be really stupid....instead it was really great. Very funny, cute and with a surprise ending.
Honestly at the mention of pork fried rice my sympathy turned to the wolf. Talk like that could make anyone hungry! 😋
Carol is so under rated. She is such a pioneer of female lead sketch. I love you carol
carol was never underrated .
She wasn't underrated in her time....she was TOPS and a BIGTIME Television A LISTER.
LOVE this spoof…! 😮🥰🥰👍🏼🤣😂👠👣
Genius 😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’d go to this opera!
Brilliant. Love all the musical easter eggs. Farrell and Horne game and gorgeous singing.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Surprised the Rodgers estate let the Carousel line slide.... wouldn't happen now.
Maybe they thought it was funny to have it.

Carol Burnett knew Richard Rodgers so maybe that is why the Carousel line got by? She had auditioned for a musical by him several times...
@@randysills4418 And his daughter Mary had written Once Upon a Mattress.
Alot of people today don't know the old musicals and operas. When I hear the line I just start laughing 😂
Amazing skit!
Young Maestro. I'd like to think he grew up to be famous.
Comedy Genious!!!!!❤
I forgot this one! Wonderful!
It’s such a shame comedy variety shows are a thing of the past! This was true talent in every direction!

We need a family friendly variety like this one
@@jefferypardue7509 SNL can't do crap anymore. It should just be cancelled.
Excellent!
I LOVE IT!!! Carol Burnett Show was one of my favorite shows growing up!😂
So enjoyable. I love them all.
The broad range of talent constantly on display by these performers just isn't found in any popular entertainment currently.
That’s a cute one. Thanks!
Too funny
Hahahaha, the wolf run hahahaha, who are the other two ladies???
Eileen Farrel (Soprano) & Marilyn Horne (Mezzo)
@@donaldauguston9740 Thank you. Happy Monday
Also love how you can hear the NewYorker in Farrells sprechstimme moments
Unscripted cameo by lost stagehand: 7:24.
The stagehand looks like Liberace.
Carousel take off with Big Bad Wolf.
Again, SNL today couldn't dream up funny stuff like this.
_SNL_ hardly does musicals.
Just wonderfull and fantastique to see magnifique Edward Arckless ex Royal Oper Ballet Covent Garden London and conservatoire de Ville de Paris France

They should've been more applause at moments here.
If you like this, check out Sills and Burnett at the Met. Carol and Beverly Sills make a great team.
❤
She had to shut them up so no further walls came down.
Did they do more opera stuff? Should've.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Who were the other two women singers??? This is amazing, by the way
It's mentioned on here.
What hams

Col. Steve Trevor, ole Lyle Wagner
Pavorati couldn't do it better.
Yes, very good, but did you know, near the 7 minute mark, a stage hand appear; for only a second though. Oops!
Weird list. Guess I'm not average lol. And why just America?
Is Carol pregnant??
If the script demands it, Bob Mackie can manage it.
Good times, but I will stick to Puccini...
2 Liberals AND A CONSERVATIVE
Yes! Well I can't blame Eileen Farrell too much, I guess. She was raised in a very religious, conservative household and then married a policeman who was conservative and even carried a gun in their house!
Farrell was a Catholic, too...
I doubt EF would recognise any “ conservative” now 😊
