WH, you continue to make me smile. I go to Pahrump on a fairly regular basis and didn't know about this place. I now have a reason to check it out. Like you, it breaks my heart to see places destroyed for no good reason. Take only pictures, yeah. I used to ask people who visited me in the desert what they saw and they would say, no life. I would say you are surrounded by life, life that moves slower and is less flashy. Slow your sight and you see so much more, look for movement, not bright colors. I also appreciate your respect for others religious views, tolerance is a virtue. Peace, I will continue watching.

If I had the money, like a lotto win, I'd try and restore this to it's former glory. I went and read more about it. It has a lot of sentimental value to a lot of people that are disgusted by the vandalism. imagine all the prayers and wishes and dreams in those canyon walls? If they could talk!! Wow. Thank you for this wonderful adventure WH. Once again, you've opened my minds eye, and got me researching the internet. You're making the world better place seriously, by showing us the beauty of places & people we might never have ever had the chance of knowing/learning of. Thank you!

This broke my heart, my grandparents brought me here when I came to visit for the summer, in 1973. What bunch of pathetic jerks destroyed this treasure? So sad that a gift to everyone, made with his heart and soul was treated with such disregard. And shame on his selfish family for not caring about his life work. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This is so sad. We use to love going there. It's 16 miles from Pahrump and we'd take all our visitors to see that beautiful site. They had a walk across bridge and a big pool of water for baptisms.......so so sorry to see it in ruins.

The people of Pahrump loved that place. The best time to visit was at night. He had an electrical switch that was on an honor system that visitors could turn on upon arrival and a sign asked to just turn the lights off when finished visiting. You could walk out on that suspension bridge and look down on all the gorgeous alcoves with various colored lights illuminating. Also, It was just remote enough from Pahrump, that those toilets were super nice to have out there. It kept people from doing their business in the canyon.

Hello there, Wonder Hussy! Thanks for showing us this place. I sure wish there was more of the place left. I'm not positive, but I think the spelling for the name QueHoe was later changed to "Kehoe". Knew some people with that family name, here in California, while I was growing up. I feel as you do about people. I think there are a lot more good guys than bad guys, though as in the media, the bad press gets the most notice. That said, hope when people see the results of vandalism, that it will affect people in a way, that vandalism will be on the decline. Side note.... My husband and I call you Wanda, because of your Wandering through the history of what was, to share with others what is left. Thanks and Stay Calm, Centered and Sassy. : )

And my gramps was a member at the Moose Lodge there... Random fact on the Moose they re-carpeted it with the one that was in the MGM that burned up in Vegas...

Many people who are new to the area have no idea this place is even here. About 2 miles northeast of Charleston View ,
CA. Off a road rarely taken in the middle of nowhere. Great exploration of a busted up religious area I must say. Just keep
exploring the desert woman! No one does it better than the Huss.

I grew up in Las Vegas Nevada. From 1994-2000 I Frequented
this Place quite often. My Grandfather was a really good
Friend of Roland Wiley. I helped
    The Caretaker who lived out
    on the Wiley Ranch throughout
the 90's. I had access to Tools
and the Keys to the Cabins and
Office building that was out there
I was a Volunteer worker out there
I knew Roland Wiley really well and
his Family. I helped install the Electrical Wiring and Flood Lights
    within the Canyon. There where
Benches and Trout in the Pond
within the Canyon. I do remember
using the Bathroom inside the Canyon. I Miss this Sacred Place
It was a Holy Place to say many
Prayers and a Special Place. The
Cathedral Canyon needs to be Restored to its Glory.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Me and some friends would drive out there at night to watch the lights and be alone in the desert. Then we'd drive out to tecopa Hot Springs then back to the shrine to watch the sunrise. It was a sacred time in what was a very difficult part of my life. I will always treasure this place.

If you didn't find out yet, the saying is '(fill in subject) has more ( fill in object) than Carter has little pills'. Carters made pain relievers like aspirin , but they were tiny and came in a tin like altoids and there were lots of them in the tin. They also made a liver pill so another version was ....'than Carters little liver pills'. Ask someone 60 or older, they'll remember! Your videos are the best!

Great video. I'm not a believer either, and it burns me up when someone destroys a religious shrine, not because of any religious meaning to me (though I tend to love the cultural aspects of it) but because it means something to others. I've been to the WW1 cross in the Mojave Preserve, and I know a lot of Athiests who would like to see it taken down. I want it to stay up because of its historical significance.

The mans name was Rowland Wiley that built this.... i met him as a very small child with my father. This blows me away!!! I have been away from the area for many years and I have currently moved to pahrump and went to cathedral canyon today. What a difference 30 years makes. Roland was an interesting man he gave me a gift a small address book for some reason I’ll never forget it I think I was probably 12 or so.

Thank you for this video. My family visited that place from 1992-1999. It was so beautiful. There was stained glass and statues everywhere. The trees were alive. The stairs intact...I was baptized in that area where that silver mount is on the wall. Everyone from all walks of life came there. Albert Einstein and Abe L. Saint Martin , Mary & Jesus as a baby. All statues. A lot of occult things happened in this area , it became unsafe and is what drove my family away unfortunately. Rolan , the owner at the time buried a Native American that was excommunicated from his tribe. He buried him there to have a resting place , to be at peace. We believed he watched over the canyon. Also, there used to be four teepees in that canyon were you could pray or meditate. It was the most beautiful sanctuary. So sad to see how much of a shell that place has become.

When I used to drive truck OTR sometimes I'd get to New York City, one day after delivering a load I went to a truckstop in New Jersey to fuel and get something to eat. There were two guys talking about how they used to be teachers and got fed up with the school system and bought a greyhound bus and turned it into a tour bus and charted historical sight tours to the eastern parts of the New England area states and do tours to all of the historical sights, which there are many, for the rich people that didn't want to bother driving. Have you ever considered doing the same thing?

I remember visiting Cathedral Canyon as a little girl. They would have Sunrise Easter services there. I was about 4 years old. I remember having to use one of those hobbit hole bathrooms!
At the box end of the canyon where the waterfall was, inside the "pond" was a beautiful tree. I don't know what kind of tree it was, but is was a wispy kind of tree, like a weeping willow. I just remember it being so beautiful and green and so out of place in the middle of the desert. But the entire place had a very reverent feel to it, even to a little girl or four.

Spirituality and religion don't require each other. You love the desert. For many of us, the desert is it's own spirituality. I spent 30 years in the Antelope Valley. I met many who just never got it, even though they were born to it. They liked doing that same stupid, destructive crap. My first sight of Palmdale was January 1st, 1971. Eighteen inches of snow. Joshua trees with snow on them look absolutely other worldly. Been as far west as Singapore and east to Florida. Two years on Oahu. The sunsets just don't compare. Or under the full moon away from town. Nothing to get in the way of the light, but even then, the canyons can be so dark. And it is full of life if you take the time to look.

I hope you get to see the Grotto in Iowa.

3:02 there used to be a sign on that Archway that said gateway to the Stars. Also the man who built it was named Roland Wiley. After he died some people did try to take care of it but they just didn't have the money. I remember when I would go they were occasionally people sitting at the top of the stairs watching over the place and taking donations but it just wasn't Ever Enough.

Hey Wonder Hussy, another great video thanks for sharing & going out there & exploring! So, how was your road trip across the US to Florida? I'm thinking about doing the same thing sooner or later with my Pops!

I used to come here with my family all the time when I was a kid back before it was destroyed and it was a nice place. But it was definitely a Christian Shrine there was nothing dedicated to other religions within it. And it was Bill and dedication as a shrine to his daughter who died it was kind of his way of coping with it by building the shrine. The bridge used to scare me to go across but there was a light switch you can turn on and it would power all the lights and everything and it was pretty cool. Unfortunately all the Tweakers started coming out there and having their little parties and wine to vandalize and stuff like that. I was real sad and to find out when I moved it back to Pahrump back in 2010 that it was no more it was vandalized and everything that was cool about it was taken out of it. It still seems like a cool place I want to take my wife there someday when I go back to Nevada. It's just sad to see what's become now out oh, I had a lot of childhood memories there

To look with new eyes. I usually tell people "I haven't learned to appreciate that yet." I try not to non-commit all with not appreciating somethings. A lot in art, like with Bosch or Bacon.
I'm learning to appreciate deserts, a little, because of you WH. I still can't look at scab land and "look how lush!" But I can start to appreciate it's austere land scape. It's a start. I'm from Alaska, so that's a huge step...kek.
