Tbh I don’t think the female dancer has to be super slim for the male dancer to be able to lift her up. There r female dancers with more of muscular body so they definitely weigh more but the male dancers still are able to perform amazing lifts with them
Tala Chazali the more weight on a ballerina, muscle or fat, the more strain is put on the ankles which support them en pointe. Likewise, a top heavy dancer had a slim chance at becoming a principal because of simple physics. While it’s not fair, it it’s backed up by science :(
Well if you ever watch the show Dance Academy all the dancers on that show are bigger than these girls and they are principal dancers. I’m not saying you have to be heavy or big set to be a professional dancer but you don’t have to be super skinny either it just helps and makes it easier for some things in dance if you are slimmer. They talk about the weight issue and all of that in Dance Academy it’s a great show I highly recommend it. It’s part of the reason why I got into ballet.😀

I’m Thai but I’m almost mixed so all the time my friends and family from Thailand complain that I’m too fat but I’m about the avg American size. I’m pretty healthy for my height as the doctor says but too Asians I’m too fat so it is a culture difference.

Okay, I have done partnering before, and oh gosh, it’s crazy. We were doing pas de chat lifts and HE FREAKING DROPPED ME. And I’m 5’1” and kids that are 7 INCHES SHORTER THAN ME can lift me!! Also, it’s super awkward, I kept cracking up and my teacher threatened to replace me (I really didn’t care)

It's not that they are heavy by regular standards, it's because the male dancers will have to perform lifts, sometimes over their heads.
Dancers in general have to watch their weight and tend to be very slender.
