I backed this but have yet to get it to the table. I backed it for the theme and story elements mixed with worker placement. If you don’t mind me saying if by your own admission you don’t like too much theme, then this was very unlikely to be a game you would love. To be fair, the kickstarter page/campaign was pretty clear that this was a game with a heavy story element. I always value negative/mixed reviews as they cool hype and provide balance with real world experiences. I enjoyed your review and look forward to more. Thank you.
The thing is, I really enjoyed Destines, I love Mansions of Madness.. and I was expecting a mix of these.. but found the story-portion a drag. It could be due in part to how engaged I was in the actual gameplay and wanting to complete all these experiments that it soured me when having things come to an abrupt halt after every single round. So, it’s a compliment to the gameplay, though, yes, overall, it’s not one geared toward me. Sounds like you’ll love it and I really hope it’s amazing for ya!! - N
I didn’t back this game even though the gameplay and theme sounded intriguing - I was just too worried it’d end up being more about the story rather than the game. Sounds like I made the right choice to give it a miss - for me, that is. Thank you for the review.
Our pleasure. I expect plenty of people to disagree with me but that’s ok, after playing through the game, I can tell you the game is pretty fun! I wish, for me, the constant long halts in the game were more enjoyable. I’m happy knowing they will be fun for many others! - N
This game DOES sound interesting to me, and I am a story type guy. But, holy cow! Why does there need to be a long-ass full novel constantly popping up? And if you have to read it aloud to the table? Unbelievable! I think Red Raven gets story games right! Small bursts of story, they are interesting and impactful, and then it's right back to the game. I don't think I could take 5+ hours of this game with 3 or 4 players! I see some comments like "this is the game Abomination should have been" or "this is the game Mansions of Madness should have been". I'm just not feeling it. If I had backed it, I probably would have enjoyed my 1 or 2 plays over the course of 1 or 2 years well enough. But glad I didn't. Also retail at Gencon is $125. Yikes!
It does get old for me.. but hey, for you, it’s definitely worth a try, it may be perfect for you and Missy! I do think it’s $125 for that same KS edition, so I’m thinking you’ll still get the amazing quality at that price at least. I think I backed for $100 if I recall. - N

I generally like story driven and theme heavy games, but something a out this one never appealed to me. Great overview and review!
